I grew up in America. My family moved to Australia when I was 16. That was a long time ago. I'm now 74. Australia and New Zealand are very similar in many ways, and completely different in others. After I had been in Australia for just over 7 years, another migrant, a Greek gentleman, told me that after 7 years, if I went back to America I would discover that I don't belong there anymore. And I went back after 7 years, and he was right. Don't get me wrong, I still have a place in my heart for America. But I belong in Australia. And I suspect that the same applies to you and your family. You will always be proud Americans, and nothing can take that away from you. But you now belong in New Zealand. Best of both worlds if you ask me......

Having lived in Oz for over thirty years, it's home for me now. NZ is where I came from though and I will always consider it my heritage just like my Samoan-born parents consider Samoa their cultural and spiritual home even though they moved to NZ in the early 1950s to live and work and raise a family. Being Kiwi is part of my personal identity as a person. Mum died in NZ in 2019 even though her heart always pined for her birth homeland. I expect the same fate awaits me eventually. Take care, Tara. Enjoyed your vidz when I found time to watch.

I'm in Australia where most of the stuff you mention is very similar. Today I came off my bicycle and cut open my chin. Today it was stitched up and I had a bunch of xrays. All free. I value paying a rate of taxation that supports this. And next year I am having 5-6 weeks off work to visit China and Japan. My boss and my colleagues are very supportive and encouraging of this. It is our work/life balance culture down under.

I really enjoy your blogs you give a really balanced view, I have spent a lot of time between nz and the usa over the last 13 years, as a kiwi we have it really good here and sometimes it is not understood until we travel or are told by people like you, we have moved out of auckland to our bach in the last year on the firth of thames and we love it, heading back to USA in Feb, first time since covid really looking forward to see the changes and I know they are coming, please keep your posts coming, and if you ever want to bring the family down to visit us we will take you fishing and enjoy a glass of good nz wine 😂

Annual leave is 4 weeks, but actually legally entitled from one year after.
Many employers are flexible and tend to work around the employees to be able to take in advance leave but not obligated to do so.
Mindful that if leave taken in advance, employee would need to pay back to the employer if you leave.
Some may work out some leave in advance, and some leave without pay (lwop)

00:33 🌐 Work life balance: New Zealand offers a strong emphasis on work-life balance, providing four weeks of paid vacation and valuing significant time off for both casual and full-time workers.
1:49 🌱 Garden all year round: Unlike harsh winters in some regions, New Zealand's climate allows for year-round gardening, fostering the growth of various plants and flowers consistently.
2:23 🌏 Embrace Maori culture: New Zealand integrates its indigenous Maori culture into society, education, and daily life, with a focus on language revival and cultural understanding.
3:27 🌿 Conservation efforts: The country demonstrates commendable conservation efforts, particularly in preserving indigenous birds and wildlife, as well as promoting environmental awareness, such as reducing plastic usage.
4:53 ⚕ Healthcare: New Zealand provides free public healthcare, a stark contrast to privatized systems in some countries, allowing accessible medical services without financial barriers.

As a Kiwi I can say new Zealand is great although the health care is not 100% free e.g. I went to the doctors today an it cost $54. When it really should be free. Dental is also extremely expensive yeah so I anything thats not covered on the public system. There is also huge wait times for surgery under the public system unless it's covered by acc or under insurance. The healthcare system is also massively understaffed.

Yeah, I don't know if you noticed, but Australia is very hostile to foreigners coming and "taking their jobs". Though if you're in a field that they need more people in, they will pay a premium to poach you like what's happening with all the police officers in NZ right now. But I mean, that's the benefit of having so much dirty fossil fuel and mining money I suppose, the government is filthy rich so everything's more subsidised and affordable.

@@michaelheliotis5279 there are 750,000 kiwis living in Australia they dont seem to mind taking our dirty money or our jobs. Doesnt appear that they feel unwelcome otherwise they would be heading back across the ditch. Maybe people in China, Japan, India should turn off their lights and shut down all their industries so that people like you feel better. Aussies are more likely to get hostile with a government who seems intent on flooding the place with new arrivals at a time when our infrastructure is being stretched to its breaking point not with the actual immigrants themselves.

The health care is able to be free and publicly funded because NZ isn't infested with giant US pharmaceutical corporations that have monopolies on drugs charging exorbinate prices. If American drug providers monopolize the health industry in NZ like they did in the USA, you can bet the health care system will collapse and become privatized.

It's free for lazy people who are content with living of government welfare and don't work. The day you start earning a salary you get taxed to death to earn "free" Healthcare for yourself and the lazy people that couldn't bother to contribute to the economy

It’s starting to feel like the same video over and over and over again every couple of days, delivered from the blandness of the spare bedroom in your house. How about getting out and about and showing what it’s actually like to live in NZ cities and towns, and to travel in the stunning countryside?
Tell us about the lack of native mammals in what used to be an island of birds (many flightless). Perhaps also tell us why it is a bit like San Francisco as you wait with some trepidation for the next catastrophic earthquake (the rebuild of the decimated Christchurch is a great story). Tell us about of the NZ accent, with it’s weird vowel variations, that so amuses neighbouring Australians. Tell us about the English and Scottish heritage. Tell us why that despite so many of the societal benefits you see, so many NZers choose to migrate to Australia for greater economic opportunity.
