Robin Guthrie is simply not celebrated as much as he deserves to be. He's not just the founding member of the Cocteau Twins; moreover, the man instigated a music movement throughout the community. Although, most people don't know of Robin's methodology. He's not just using strums and reverberation, but instead a continual uses use of Vibrato, Stuccato, Flange, Feedback, Bending Harmonics, Syncopation, and so much more - Many he invented himself. People take it for granted of the continued use of computers in music today, but when he started there were no computers involved. He masterfully aligned those Cascading Reverberations manually, through the use of analogue equipment, which is why Robin has been know to be a "grouch" at the mastering-booth. His ears hear what most of us don't, or ever could listen too. He a composer of dreams, which is why he was so successful with Elizabeth and Simon. I give him much credit for always, for letting Elizabeth do whatever she thought sounded correct and not force her singing be more pronounceable, or having any ego about sharing any credit. I'll never forget an interview where Robin gave a final response about Elizabeth Fraser's singing: "Do you, think there's a sense of poetry, about, what she does?" Robin smiles with an incredibly wide grin and, so matter of factly, responds with: ― "Listen, to what she does...... !!!" And, that was it, he's never gave himself any credit. All of the current Shoegaze and Dream-pop bands need to give this man more acknowledgement and respect.
Outstanding ! Correct, i agree absolutely, just the fact that he did all in his mind, manually and with analog equipment is mind blowing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎸🥰
It's some sort of left-handed compliment when I think these fine folks did not succumb to the overdoses so many have- perhaps it's the fact all the other musicians were writing and playing "angrier" music that took themselves out- perhaps the intent of being peaceful with their music saved Robin & Elizabeth from that end; that they played and sang their demons away?!? Love to all
The other gentlemen like Brian Eno and Harold Budd (gone, but not forgotten) are highly respectable ― Robin, however is the overall, "Grandmaster" of them all. He still makes his own World and what a beautiful place it is. I could happily die to his work.
