TREK themselves in an internal company memo stated they had to reduce SKUs to keep costs under control. This is the reason for this bike, not because the pros "wanted it." Lets keep it real and leaving the marketing talking points out.
Sorry, we have to disagree. The Pros wouldn't ride it unless the performance was as good or better. They have short careers and a win can be life changing for them. The overall package is improved. Once you check out the bike 'in the flesh' you'll be impressed. All the best, BBB 👍.
@@BigBearBikes your right makes sense. If I were a pro I would also quit my contract and job if I don't like it ... And risk not being hired by anyone else because no one wants a rider who won't be a brand ambassador... Yeah il give up my dream to say this bike is trash
@@omarkreidieh3623 Let us know what you think when you've ridden the Gen 8 Madone. We found its a great blend of low weight, aero efficicency, light weight, comfort & stiffness, and interesting looks. All the best, BBB.
@@BigBearBikes lol.
I am sure it is a great bike but I still like the look of gen7, especially with a white "TREK" on a viper red body color.
We can't disagree with that 👍. Thanks BBB
Would the handlebars come off to fit in a bike box or is there not enough slack in the braking hoses?
To discuss delivery options, please email us at shop@bigbearbikes.co.uk. Thanks BBB 👍
What kind of robotic non answer is that?
It comes partly setup from the factory in a bike box with the handlebars flapping about so there would be enough slack for you to pack it in the same way
The bike on display is an SL model. Whats the weight of the SL?
From Trek's spec sheet - It’s weight in size ML is 8.16 kg / 17.99 lbs (with TLR sealant, not tubes). Thanks BBB 👍
This is the exact model im looking at and thinking of getting. For me personally i prefer more endurance/more comfortable bikes so this suits my taste more than previous madone which i found a tad aggressive position wise. But it is quite a bit heavier and only 105 groupset compared to my giant defy advanced ultegra clag current bike.
Id really have to ride one. No denying its a great looking bike but at the price it has to perform great as well.
Many thanks for your thoughts 👍 BBB.
does the Blendr base stem accessory come with the bike? thanks
Yes it does.. Thank BBB 👍
@@davidbeeley163 thats great as i couldn't find any info if there was any standard accessories, so presumably you just need to buy are Garmin mount that fixes to that?
Yes it does 👍.
Lovely bike , looks more like a new Emonda particularly with the shallower wheels
Thanks for the feedback. BBB 👍
What is the weight for this model ?

What I'd like to have asked is when you remove the $100 x 2 aero water bottles and the $650 aero bar, i.e. every model that's not a 9000 usd slr and up, how much slower is it than a gen 7 madone aerodynamically? I would guess it's slow enough that if you're buying an sl tier bike it's a better idea to just go with the gen 7 madone on a discount from a local shop and eat the 2-300g penalty on the sl frame and fork which will hardly make a difference. Plus the sl6 gen 7 bike comes with carbon aero bars while the gen 8 comes with round alloy.
Like the bike a lot but it's a little sad. I'm sure anything below the top tier bikes are compromized like any brand, I just wish they would be open about it, even if they have to word it in a pretty way. I just hope no one with an sl gen 7 feels like they got cheated into buying a bike that's already obsolete. You probably have the faster bike and you don't even need to use special bottles.
Only exception i guess would probably be if this new one was significantly more comfortable or stiffer in the BB which always feels great for the sprints/climbs
Many thanks for the comment. We've started to put some miles on the SL, starting last Sunday, with a hilly, 90 miler.
It had an excellent balance of abilities at its price point. The handling was very confidence inspiring, you could feel the aero benefit at high speed, the frame compliance & comfort was excellent and the bike climbed well. Please seek one out yourself for a test ride. Thanks BBB 👍
Maybe extend the seat post to stop flexing.
👍 BBB
Absolute game changer? Hardly....
Thanks for the feedback, and we will have to agree to disagree 👍. BBB
@@BigBearBikes OK... I would like to know exactly why this bike is a game changer?
320 grams lighter...well F me ~ slams down money~...I'll take two!, and I'll sell my last year's model Trek, for a huge loss.
That's progress unfortunately. It's the same with phones. You have got a lovely, fast bike 👍. BBB
@@BigBearBikesDisagree. That's not progress, that profiteering, and using technology advancements as the seductive bait. So many are mesmerised by technology.
More advanced phones and computers are also a profiteering scam. The only "advancements" for the latter two are, faster + more storage..and many believe the social conditioning, that going faster + holding more data IS an advancement.
Manuacturing heirarchy have known, since Edward Bernays got involved decades ago, that many will buy nearly anything if it's marketed in a way that bypasses the rational and targets the emotional.
Currently, the primary focus of many in the bike industry is weight reduction, because racing\competition remains the primary means of advertising...resulting in people experiencing advertising channels (intentional or not) like yours, hilighting a new model that's, whoopdie frickin' doo, 320g lighter than the previous model.
I think those that are compelled to want to be better than others, or those that think technology is perfect and can never be a bad thing, will continue to buy the lighter rigs and parts...even though, as one example, there's more and more people publicly sharing how their shimano hollowtech cranks are breaking due to no reasonable structural integrity, and how Shimano, last I looked, still won't admit the design flaw.
What will the bike industry do to make money when they can no longer reduce weight of bikes and parts, because too little weight already causes cranks to break and chains to fail or have a shorter life span due to 11-12 speed gearing.
When shimano created a crank that easily breaks due to lack of structural intergrity, because the heirarchy are so obsessed with weight reduction as their latest cash cow, I think it reasonable to consider some folks would not call that progress.
And still heavier than my 10 year old bike 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
But which is faster or nicer to ride?
How much does Aero, Disc Brakes, Wide Tyres and the other changes help? Thanks BBB 👍
@@BigBearBikes mine is,Aero’s a joke, disc brakes overkill, fat tyres slow
@@Tarmaccyclocross We will have to agree to disagree 👍. All the, BBB
All the weight is in the Cranks...
