- Today on Rebuild Rescue we are attempting to get the engine to start again which means checking for air, fuel, and spark. While working on the plane a guest stops by and shares some more background information about the Cessnas history and we get a call from the old owner that could change the entire outcome of this project.

I suspected from the very beginning the owner was gonna pull this. Nobody gives away free airplanes for nothing
Same and I hate flying lol
@@paulsheffield4729 Yep, this could end up in court. And since it is at least $20,000, it won't be in small claims court. Lots of legal fees. I'm sure he can afford it, because it will cost at least several hundred thousand dollars to put that airframe back into flyable condition....
Cut the guy in on your revenue from the videos featuring his airplane. I think at the very least you could offer. Could be more, could be less but the more videos you make until it's is started and yours, the more revenue from views. That way everyone wins
I really hope the "other guy wants to buy it" thing is real, as I am really fed up with all the fake videos on the internet these days. It was the reality of this show that made me watch it. If it is real then I agree with other comments, talk to the guy that wants to buy it and try and agree to rebuild it together on UA-cam. It would make an awesome TV series to see this fly.
I feel that you are a genuine person. Please remember you aren't on a big network episode of survivor and you don't have to set your video up with these dramatic scenes and secret phone calls to get us to watch you or your video, if the subject matter is even true at all (someone trying to buy and steal this plane). My suggestion would be to cut that crap out and keep it real for us all. I enjoy watching you and listening to your outlook on this rebuild.
Good call. Obviously we don't know exactly what's going on but I couldn't help but roll my eyes when I saw the "one sided pace around the hanger with a sad look" phone call.
Plane sits abandoned for 16 or so years and now someone wants to buy it??
The TLC, Discovery, HGTV drama crap is a real turn off.
@@KarlMarcus8468 not to mention the reaction- I don't know why, but something about it struck me as off, like it was overdramatized
Well said. Not a pro.. so just cut the drama.. and get it running.
Yeah it feels off. Now I'm waiting for him to ask if viewers can come up with $20,000 lol/ sad
Heck, I'll give you a buck to give to the old owner, after all we're getting content based on his generosity. I'm sure there's another 19,999 viewers who feel the same.
Screw whoever saw this and thought "yeah let's mess this up".

I will not give the owner anything! they have a fucking contract....! if he runs the airplane ...airplane is his!.
I got 5$ too
@@northern_starr3859 I'll give $5 too
Heck, I'll give 2 bucks, lol
I worked on those engines quite a lot from my experience when they have not ran for a while you need to start them flooded especially since you're not 100% sure the fuel to air ratio is right here's how you should do it to get it started. First advance throttle to full power stop along with mixture to full rich position, then with the boost pump ON prime the engine until fuel starts coming out of the overflow on the ground and let it pour out for about 3 seconds. Turn the boost pump off then bring mixture to cut off that way it doesn't get any more fuel in the cylinders once you hit the starter. Leave throttle to max power then start cranking engine with the starter and mag switch ON if engine fires up, quickly bring mixture to full rich and back off throttle but not too much to keep it alive. That procedures floods the cylinders with gas and helps the rings to seal up since on those engines oil do most of the sealing on the rings. As far as oil pressure goes the gauge should start reading in a 30 seconds window if not then no oil pressure or the line is clogged up. It also needs to crank faster idealy to start it up but with the above procedure it should work. Don't abuse the starter, a max of 15 seconds should be enough or you'll burn it up. The turbo not spinning is not giving you any chances. Have someone with a fire extinguisher nearby, fuel on the ground might catch fire. Keep it mind it's got air, fuel and spark there's no reason why it would not start beside a starting procedure or an odd thing going on
I would contact the owner and see if he can remember who did the last annual inspection. They may still have a record of it. It could show the number of hours on the engines and the airframe. You may even be able to get a copy of that report.
Twice in my life I have had a similar offer, "you get it to run and and you can have it for x dollars" I fell for it the first time and put in the time, got it running and was told, "now that it runs the price is 10x". Lesson learned. Years later I was made a similar offer and I said "no, I will buy it broken and take the chance that it may not be fixable". After getting it started the fellow was furious with me that I had "stolen his truck". This generous offer that "it is yours if you get it to run" is usually code for "I am going to con you out of your time and cost of parts to fix my equipment". I think the tail number story is a guise to extort money for your own labor.
Exactly!!!!!!!
Best comment I’ve seen yet on the subject as I’ve seen the exact same!!!
Hah, Yes and yes, had the same thing with a motorcycle, guy said I'll give it to you, and I said, nope, I'll buy it for 50$, and a paper trail, then I repaired it, showed up with the repaired motorcycle and the guy was so pissed at me for fixing it! I can only imagine what would have happened if I didnt have the "paper trail"
He put it in writing if I recall correctly.

Top work brother.
Man, you should consider setting up a livestream during your work on the airplane, so you can interact and maybe get some useful advices exactly when they are needed, and it’s gonna be cool and new experience
This is a really good idea you had, i upvoted so maybe he sees it.

Yeah, I agree as well! Everyone should upvote this comment!
I second this live stream suggestion
no he wont cuz its all fake horseshit
Instead of spending time freeing up the turbo just to see if the engine runs, just pull off the charge pipe. You don't need a turbo to start and run. Give the engine the air it needs, just eliminate the turbo for test purposes.
Agreed do that with the turbo. and do a search on fuel pressure. Get a fuel pump and regulator on a fuel can run line up to that junction and try to see what happens. If that is all you need is fuel that would solve that to see if it runs and cheap setup too
Ya but if he did that then he can milk the videos for more time and it won’t make as much money.
The problem with that is most of the time these kind of things have a map or maf sensor or a combination of two so it knows how much air is going in and out of the engine taking one off or the other would be very devastating for the aircraft's engine it may not even start even if you did that.
@@lmssoftware3130 is it possible then, that the map/maf sensor is bad or dirty, causing the problem?
@@lmssoftware3130 BS. at idle the engine is pulling vacuum, removing a turbo isn't going to change airflow enough to stop an engine from coming to life.
"I don't know what this is but it looks pretty important, so I'm gonna take it out"... That there is why you've got a new subscriber 🤣👍
With boost pump on you need to advance the mixture control for a couple of seconds to prime the engine and then pull it to cut off position. Crack the throttle and engage starter. Once engine fires advance mixture to full rich.
When you're "priming" the motor, you should see the fuel needle for flow move to the right showing a gph value. normally priming a injected engine is - booster fuel pump on -> mixture full rich -> wait till needle moves showing flow, count three seconds (this is the actual priming), then mixture off. For starting -(after successful prime) mixture off, pump on, crank till it fires, as soon as it fires mixture rich to keep it running, then lean it out (as needed) for taxi so as to prevent fouling plugs. Good luck.
Edit: and after it fires set rpm, and watch oil pressure gauge. no oil pressure in 10-15 seconds, shut it down.
This dog knows a lot about plane engines. Pretty sus if you ask me.

Same!
I'm not a pilot, nor do I play one on TV. :-) I live vicariously through watching flying videos, which is how I stumbled on this one. Now I'm hooked. Such a beautiful aircraft, shame that it was neglected the way it was. I hope you can get it fired up, even though I know that it's gonna cost big, big bucks to get her back up in the air. Good luck!!!
The back story at 16:28 made this video great. Hearing of all the interactions of people with this abandoned plane made it so much more interesting. Almost like this plane has become a piece of heritage of this airport.
Also a shout out to your use of ‘safety squints’. The true eye protection of any mechanic
Throttle lever and mixture lever need to be forward. I’ve done this so many times at work looking for fuel leaks after component changes. The FCU won’t pass fuel to the fuel divider and injectors if they are not at full RPM and rich mixture position. If you don’t do this the electrical boost pump will run dry and it can damage. Also PB blaster no bueno in the fuel divider, no oil or degreaser should be in there, only fuel.
As an A&P I love this series and even the misso is rooting for you to get it started. I hope you can get it done before the repo man turns up.
Also an idea would be setting up a patreon or some fundraiser. I’m sure if a quarter of the people who viewed this donated, even just a dollar, you could pay the owner more than what’s he’s been offered, and leftover money can go towards parts.
Good luck mate you’re closer than ya think

Love the days of Thunder reference!! All time favorite movie. Love this content and can’t wait to watch them all.
Put the throttle and mixture full forward and use the switches labeled “prime”. If still no fuel there’s an issue with the diaphragm in the flow divider (the fuel manifold you took apart on top of the engine). Fuel flow is a measurement of pressure and not actual flow, it shouldn’t be getting that high, indicative of a blockage.
The fuel flow from the mechanical pump to the flow divider seemed good. It was a good amount of fuel considering the small squirts the injectors spray. That's why there is return line (the very rusty one) opposite the red inflow line that he checked, any excess fuel gets returned back to tank.
I have a strong feeling that the fuel is just not getting through the injectors via the flow divider.
Bingo! I am in agreement!
Dude, I'm Sooooo rooting for you! Don't ever get discouraged. You keep me at the edge of my seat the entire video. I wish these were longer.

Main requirements for this exercise, from this engineer / PPL
(1) Workshop Manuals for the Cessna 401 and the Continental engines
(2) Flame retardant boiler suit and spare pair of underpants
(3) Large (trolley size) portable foam fire extinguisher standing by, with watchman if possible
(4) Work to be done in the open, NOT in an enclosed hangar (so far as possible).
(5) Proper electrical connection, not crocodile clips !

Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls God Bless Y'alls
I am totally impressed with your efforts to get that engine running. Astounding innovations come from people with dreams.
The only reason someone would pay $20k is to cannibalize it and part it out. We all know that aircraft will never leave the ground. The wing problem, no logs, and much more are preventing that.
To: Whomever is trying to buy it ..... let Rebuild Rescue finish out his dream to get that right engine running, then pay him for what he has in it, and then get on with your profiteering that knocks the feet out from under dreamers.
So Dan you don't think taking and posting a video to a popular video platform isn't profiteering? Also if you have watched Mike Patey you would know it can be rebuilt and flown again. Bud you should get out more. Turn your computer off and walk away. LMBO.
@@w.scottsherman1358 Out of all the posts and all the reasons to post..... you see the word "profiteering" and have an issue? Your last two sentences and the "LMBO" could have been your entire reply. It in itself explains your mindset perfectly. The rest would have been a known.
Actually what your saying is this guy that is trying to get it running is totally waisting his time. So your point is moot. You say that restoring it would be fruitless and cost you more than the plane was worth but yet you want him to finish getting the motor running now how intelligent is that?
@@w.scottsherman1358 Actually, I offered a resolution that favored the 20k purchase party. And here you are using hypothetical reasoning to define "why" someone does something? Why we do something is up to the individual. Not someone dictating their narcissistic standards of reasoning on them. Why he's doing it is what's moot.
Had Rebuild Rescue not posted the video's before completion he'd have the option to cannibalize and part out the plane. In all rights, his physical effort led to the purchase offer. The least he's owed is a sales commision. Without him neither the owner or the buyer would be negotiating a sale.
Jason:
Having reviewed all the comments, it seems to me they fall into one of three categories:
1. Those who know nothing of aircraft and aircraft engines offering dangerous and/or stupid advice,
2. Those who are supportive of your efforts but don't understand the Code of Federal regulations (14 CFR) that applies to aircraft certification/airworthiness and hence the economic unfeasibility of restoring this aircraft to flying status, and
3. Those who know aircraft values and are knowledgeable about this aircraft, it's systems, it's engines etc and are actually trying to offer helpful advice while totally understanding that there is not an economically feasible way to return this aircraft to flying status.
If one makes this a labor of love and pours $300,000 into the aircraft it MIGHT fly. Whereupon it will be worth about $150,000 on the market (no-logbooks, AD compliance etc, even with newly overhauled engines and accessories makes this a money looser). That is the type of situation you are looking at. The fact that there are no logbooks automatically discounts the sales price by $40,000-$60,000. Engine overhauls will be $50,000 to $60,000 per side, accessories like turbos etc will be about $10,000 per side, prop overhauls will be about $6,000 per side if all is ok or up to $35,000 per side for new if required due to corrosion (a real possibility). Aircraft stuff isn't cheap and it is escalating every day (along with everything else).
Prior A&P/IA comments are spot on for the most part. By the way, A & P = A for Airframe, P for Power plant, hence A & P. It is an FAA license for a holder of two licenses necessary to work on FAA certified aircraft, engine and airframe), whereas the IA license is an FAA Inspection Authorization. An IA is sort of a graduate degree in being an A&P with emphasis on inspecting and returning to service aircraft requiring FAA inspections, major modifications, or major repairs.
Some thoughts:
1. Check the compression of the cylinders, even if the engine is cold you will get an idea if there is adequate compression,
2. Verify the ignition system type on this aircraft. Per the typer certificate data sheet (TCDS) for this engine it can have either an impulse coupled magneto or a retard breaker type of magneto that has a starting vibrator associated with the retard breaker. Look at the data tag on the magnetos and get the Part Number, cross reference the PN to readily available references online and you'll know which type of mags you have. I am virtually positive yours will have the "shower of sparks" system with the starting vibrator and retard breaker so you will need to verify that system is working. Merely having a spark isn't enough to start, it must be timed to fire at near top dead center on the compression stroke for this engine to start. That retardment in timing to near TDC for starting is accomplished by either impulse couplings in the mag or by the retard breaker combined with a starting vibrator that puts out a continuous high voltage spark to the spark plugs during the starting process.
3. The fuel appeared to be making it to the flow divider (aka fuel spider, fuel distributor), but not getting through it. There is a poppet valve in that unit as others have mentioned, and I agree, that it is probably not working/opening, hence no fuel flow thru the spider. Once you have fuel output from the spider flush the injector lines and also remove and clean the injectors. There is no "fuel rail" on these 1940s era technology engines. They are continuous fuel injected (i.e. the fuel flows into the intake manifold continuously throughout the 4 cycles of the cylinder). The "fuel flow" gauge in this aircraft is a pressure gauge NOT A FUEL FLOW gauge. You can have a completely blocked fuel system (such as you have) and the gauge will read high "flow" as it is showing the pressure being built. More modern systems actually have fuel flow transducers that truly show fuel flow.
4. The electric fuel pumps are for priming and emergency use if the engine driven fuel pump fails. There is a bypass valve in the engine driven pump that allows fuel to flow thru the pump when the electric fuel pump is on. The prime switch merely activates the electric pump while held at high speed, whereas it should be run in low speed at all other times (at least that is how it is if the aircraft is configured according to Cessna Multi Engine Bulletin MEB 88-3, which most are).
5. Starting procedure for these engines: Mags On, Mixture full rich, Throttle wide open, prime engine for 3-5 seconds or so (if you see fuel dripping out the bottom of the cowl you went just a bit too long, no big deal if it isn't a huge puddle), return throttle to cracked position, "clear prop", crank the engine while advancing the throttle (you are trying to achieve a stoichiometric mixture), as you advance the throttle the air/fuel mixture will reach a combustable mixture and if everything is correct it should start.
Notes: I presume this aircraft is fitted with remote oil filters. Before attempting to start the engine remove the outlet hose from the oil pump that goes to the oil pump adapter. Verify there is oil in the pump outlet and the filter hose with oil, and if you changed the filter fill it with oil as well. These engines have been known to loose oil prime in the gear driven oil pump after sitting for long periods. You retrograde fill the oil pump by filling it thru the outlet fitting.
Hope these few hints help, and good luck. GSilver FAA Wright Brothers Award Recipient, 54 year pilot, A & P/IA, Owner, Pilot, Mechanic on Cessna 421B for 27 years. Never turned wrenches on a 401 but virtually all twin Cessnas are similar. Big bore Continental engines are all very similar. I note that many comments from some were related to Lycoming engine start procedures and they are usually somewhat different from injected big bore Continentals.
@GSMS524 Great post. I hope Jason @Rebuild Rescue see it and responds. I really want to see him succeed. I just hope it doesn't become too much of a financial burden to get what he wants and that the scumbag who's trying to steal this out from under him doesnt succeed!
Agreed! Spending money for lipstick to put on a pig does not change the fact that it is still a pig. Of course, he isn't even accounting for the reason the plane was grounded in the first place.
but if his videos trend and continue to be popular, the value of the plane to him is high because it can generate more revenue than the plane is worth from youtube moneys. 300k on trending builds like the tunnel proj, or abandoned mansion etc is rookie numbers, and that's probably why someone is trying to shark the plane off him, but granted also it's plausible that part is staged to push better traction of the project and thus more youtube monies.
So much

If you would have had the common decency to hide the number and protect the owner's privacy, would that have happened? Or was that the whole point of making these videos? To advertise the plane, and get it running simply for the content, which now has a higher degree of drama? I foresee you getting it running, then you 'decide' that it is not worth the cost to fight a legal battle and the cost of restoring and storing the thing in the first place. Maybe the new owner will end up 'giving you a little something' for your work. But you will gain X-amount of subscribers, and sooner or later you will be able to buy a mint condition example. @Budd Smokegood That's another good point. I was thinking he can sue for breach of contract. Anyone who signs on will benefit from that.
There is a diaphragm and spring inside the fuel distribution block cover that is probably hard as a rock. That diaphragm is a valve that opens when fuel pressure is present. If the diaphragm is hard, it cannot flex enough to open the valve

I would add that nothing happens in the videos.
In the first one you see him inflate the tires.
In the second one he (badly) cleans the engines.
In the third one, he plugs batteries on it.
Nothing moved in between the videos.
He worked 2 hours overall on this plane and tries to sell it as an "exciting project".
He surely spent more time video editing than on the aircraft.
Cessna 402C mechanic here. Pretty much the same engine.
Put your mixtures forward and turn it over again. If you get the full, proper fuel flow, i will laugh my ass off. 😂 And then i will cheer once you finally get this old gal running!
And if you need to remove the turbos, you can. It *will still fly* on nat-asp engines. It just wont have quite as much umph.
Also, next time you do a project like this, *hide the tail number.* Blur it, put a block over it. Hell, put a tarp or something on the tail. The whole V-stab & rudder.
That'l keep cvnts like that from trying to undermine your project.
Damn good airplane to own, if you can own it!
I'll never forget being a teenager and watching an owner at the local airport start his Skyhawk XP -- that's an IO-360 Continental engine. He would prime it until raw fuel was running out of the exhaust pipe, then he would crank it over. Those Continentals need a LOT of priming.
That's called DROWNING.
Look dude, Your viewer’s watch your channel because of the quality of the content. In my opinion I dont care if your working on a dump truck that needs repaired and driven all night or an airplane thats been sitting for years.
Sure the Cessna brings a certain amount of excitement because of its condition. But 20K for airplane that will need 50-60k in complete engine rebuilds, complete interior and the list goes on.
Dont get blinded by the potential awesomeness that this aircraft represents because it will come at an awesome pricetag. If the person was willing to undercut you and offer money for the plane. So be it. Let that guy spend his money on it.
If your viewer’s are absolutely drooling over the Cessna and you decide you must rebuild it. Then consider what Jimmy’s world is doing with his Save the 310. Sell stickers, hats shirts. Anything
What Im trying to say is dont get emotionally attached to a basket case!
Either way I will still be watching.
Maybe Jimmy is the one trying to buy it!!!
He doesn't strike me as emotionally attached in any way, that's just bad acting. It's pretty obvious it isn't financially worth it to rebuild it in it's own right, but based on the success of these videos, views and subscribers the income it's generating from the views might make it worth doing. Imagine the income stream from a series of videos that culminate in getting it flying again. And if the owner sells the plane to somebody, well he has still made money from the videos he has done. I'm pretty sure the channel owner isn't an idiot and knows what he is doing here.
@@ryanmitcham5522 Which makes it all the more insulting to our intelligence that they are pulling this TLC bullshit. That was as fake as a 3 dollar bill.
Initially I wondered what he wanted with the plane because it doesn't appear financially viable. Initially he said that it would never fly but later said that he wanted it to fly. Maybe the new owner already has a damaged one of these planes and wants to use this one for parts or wants to use his parts on this one. But I thought that the lack of records was another hurdle to fly. If it sells, I hope that the seller negotiates or provides at least 10% to Rebuild Rescue. Absolute minimum 5%, like it was a real estate commission for finding a buyer.
William Woodfork and.. if the cessna, after thinking it thru, doesn't make sense. I have a bunch of time flying a 401 and owned a 310, if the plane sits for a while with no fuel in the mains the sealant in the main tanks can basically bake and clog the fuel lines with sealant...learned the hard way
that might be the cause of the smaller lines not letting fuel flow, yeah.
Honestly don't know anything about these planes, so I'm just guessing here. He took the line off what looked like a fuel line regulator/manifold and it had fuel flowing out of it, but yet no fuel going directly into the injector lines. It appears to me, the fuel going into that regulator doesn't have enough pressure to override spring pressure in the regulator, therefore not getting to the injectors. I could of sworn I seen a spring in there when he took that regulator cover off? If it is a regulator it appears mechanical, therefore should have a spring in it that actually regulates the fuel pressure.
I THOUGHTG THE 401 HAD BLADDER TANKS ? ALSO THE ENGINES HAVENTG RUN IN 10 YEARS .... THE FAA AND MANUFACTURE CONSIDERS THEM IN NEED OF OVERHALL THEY CORRIODE UNLESS RUN UPTO OPERATING TEMPS ON SOME REGULARITYSTIIL I WISH MAN SUCCESS
BTW A 310 IS THE BEST LOOKING LIGHT TWIN EVER!

A&P mechanic here. Mineral spirits is a good cleaner for the engines. Just be sure to use an air chuck to evaporate it all, but it'll eat the dirt and grime. That's how we clean engines where I work.
i used klean strip for boat engine sitting for 16 years ,, cheap at home depot slept one week in boat lol
100LL does pretty good as well 😉
A&P here, I've not worked on a 401, but I've worked on a Cessna 340 and 414, which are very similar. For your fuel issue, my money is on the distributor itself being bad. I've seen the seals degrade and clog them up. Usually for me that means removing it and sending it to overhaul. You might try swapping the one from the other engine. If it is the seals in the spider degrading, make sure to clean out the injector lines and injectors. Hoppes No. 9 and/or MEK works for the injectors. GAMI injectors are tunes specifically to the cylinders, so keep track of which one went where. Some of them will have a number on one of the flats where the first number is the cylinder its meant for (6431 for cylinder #6). For the lines, isopropyl alcohol and shop air. Hope you get it running man!

yeah he probably got way in over his head with this piece of shit and doesn't want to deal with it..
i hope you know that before you will pump the system you have to check several things:
1. Fuel tank - open
2. Throttle - full (black handle)
3. Mixture - rich (red handle)
That's only 3 things ;-)
Lots of folks here wanting the mixture to be set to rich. Those are fuel-injected engines, guys. No carburetor, hence no mixture control.
@@MargaretLeber This one is mechanical fuel injection, which has a mixture control. Only EFI has automatic mixture.

You're almost there man! She's gonna bark soon! Around 9:30 you said, "I don't even know if we have air" and spoke about the turbo... Air will flow through a stuck turbo no problem. I mean, it's a problem, but the engine will start and run with a stuck turbo. Just won't GO like you need. What "air" refers to is your valvetrain and rings. If you have zero compression, you have no "air". If you haven't done a compression test, you really should. Good luck!
Great videos buddy! Great job, well explained and entertaining. Thanks!

Same!
Make sure the fuel selector is on MAIN, which is the tip tank. The boost/prime pump is located at the tip and feeds from there. Push the RH throttle to full, RH mixture to full rich and hit prime. Fuel should flow out of the injector lines.
As people have said, ensure throttle and mixture is full rich and full throttle for priming, also ensure that the distributor up the top there, make sure its vent is completely free and make sure the diaphragm is in good condition, if vent of the diaphragm is no good no fuel will get to the injectors.
Can't wait to see it on the air.....keep it going man..
This reminds me of the story about a pile of loose change. The owner almost gave it away until someone rolled it up, then he saw the value of what he had. I say restore everything back to the way you found it; exactly the way you found it, and let him have it back. I suspect if you get it running, regardless of your contract, there will be some loophole or legal wrangling to tie up in litigation.

Your flow divider valve is stuck! On top of the engine cut the safety wire take the 4 screws out of the spider. Be carful not to rip the gasket or lose the spring, but it’s probably shot any way. Soak and work the valve out: it’s just a plunger. It’s job is to help get the engine a clean shut down and eliminate fuel nozzle dripping.

He mentioned pulling the engines and updating..obviously thats big bucks I'm guessing that goes to Continental (?) and not Napa .. and the interior clearly needs gutted and with crows and mice chillin an chewin for a decade I'm guessing the electrical is a total loss.. rubber lines, o-rings seals gaskets belts etc all been degrading for 15+ years of hot/cold/wet/dry/salt air/guano etc.. he mentioned the hundreds of rivits to access the problem that grounded her originally.. also just pulling engine access panels and the belly pans he was drilling out rusty bolts .. um ok question: assuming the engines can be brought back to excellent.. does every nut, bolt, rivet, staple, window seal, gauge, o-ring, hydraulic/cooling/oil/fuel line etc need to be replaced or at least pulled polished and tested and the electronics.. update the old tech.. sat gps navigation etc.. i mean if i bought a 20 year old boat i'd probs spring for a new fish finder lol.. and even after that will it be back to full integrity.. although it's not modern tech those engines have some torque .. take money out of the equation.. is it worth it?? ok put money back in the equation .. fully redone.. any chance it's a good investment ? Continental engines are not quick to start. Especially cold. I've started them thousands of times in my career as an aircraft mechanic.
You need to prime them heavy, then crank the engine, while slowly moving the throttle lever from idle to full to closed and back
Combustion only happens when the air, fuel ratio is right, and moving the throttle lever slowly, changes the ratio until you hit the correct ratio.
Thank you for the tips on starting these engines. Hoping we get in started soon !
Thank you for watching 👍🏼
I always went full throttle/full rich, ran the pumps until flooded, mixture to idle cutoff/full throttle, crank until it fires, and reduce throttle as it starts to run. Continentals love fuel!
the turbo isnt needed to start it. at least on other turbo engines. at idle the turbo Is bypassed at idle so it should start without the turbo. but.. does rowerwet agree?

There are stroboscope lights that you can use to adjust spark firing timing, that are hooked around the spark vires. That should be able to use to see if there are any sparks in each spark plug.
The first case that SCOTUS heard over 200 years ago was on contract law. Their finding which still stands is: a contract is a contract. Good thing you got it in writing!
In the future, your contract needs to include a clause for commissions if someone buys out the vehicle from under you. You have advertised very, very well!
Next time keep it to yourself.
what did we all learn, content creator´s and viewers? dont upload any video until project is done or in this case the start of engine is yes or no.
You might consider getting a continental engine tech to bring in spare parts of what might be needed and fix the engine immediately and starting the motor. This way you will know what to do to the other engine.
Call Continental and Cessna's PR departments and explain what's going on. Chances are that they may not have even heard what you're trying to do. They should have every reason to get their techs down there to help you start it up and avoid hurting yourself. Instant good will with future customers and the general public.
