I admit I really wanted to see a scene where Marty told off his aunt and his mother like he did his friends in the end where he said "You don't like her? That's too bad!"
Yes, but in those days to talk to Ma like that would be very bad. They'd start crying, and then they'd make their Son feel bad. also, These Mothers mean well but they are very needy and demanding of their Children's time and attention. Theresa tells Catherine to back off and stop interfering in Tommy's affairs but sadly enough she's guilty of the same charge.
She was a bundle of contradictions. She "said" one thing but "did" another thing. Sometimes I don't think that either of them realized how much of a sacrifice Marty made. He took care of Ma, still lived at Home, was The "Man", and he didn't get any help from his Siblings but it was the 1950's. Then if that weren't enough to beat the band, he takes in his Aunt, and although his Cousin Thomas should be grateful, he knows he's shuffling the responsibility for his Mother on him and he feels awful about it.
If you've seen the movie Marty's mother wanted him to get married. But after her sister told her she would be alone and lonely and would have no place to live she was afraid of him getting married. She should have known that Marty wouldn't have abandoned her.
she saw the forest and not the trees. All she wanted was for Marty to follow the PATH and for her to get grandchildren. -- She forgot big change begets more big change.
Rest in peace and birthday wishes to Esther Minciotti 3 18. The character you played in this film, unknowingly invited misery for company. The mother should have been more careful about what she wished for. Thanks for your performance
