Stumbled on this film years ago on Netflix having never heard of it. Once in awhile you just pick a gem and are pleasantly surprised. This film is a classic. One of my favorite movies of all time. It is truly a GREAT movie.
I remember seeing the Tangerine Dream “Sorcerer” album in the record stores and my friend told me about the movie. I did finally get to see the movie. All I can say is Roy Scheider made some great, unforgettable movies. Rest In Peace Roy.
This is a tribute to Roy Scheider who stars in this movie. Its a remake of a French film entitled " Wages of Fear ". " Betrayal " is a fitting name for this piece considering what transpires on the film. Friedkin used Scheider in his Hollywood productions like " French Connection" to add balance to the cast. To bad he is gone.
Saw this movie on VHS way back when but forgot the name when I wanted to see it again in the age of DVD's. Still has me on edge of seat watching the rope bridge crossing!
40th Anniversary of this movie with a stunning soundtrack that will stay with you. This movie was based on foreign film but did not have this haunting score.
I've seen ''Wages of Fear'', but I've still to catch Friedkin's remake. Knowing Scheider's track record, I know that I'm in for a treat! Excellent presentation G. :)
It breaks my heart that this movie bombed at the box office but at the same time I like the feeling of being part of a small but passionate group of people who truly love this movie! Well done!
I've seen this movie today very early morning and now I'm obssessed like a maniac about it. As if the Sorcerer has cast a very powerful charm spell on me. Ever since I stumbled upon it to expand Friedkin's filmography and after my friend highly recommended it I wanted to see it badly, and it didn't dissapoint one bit. The movie has very German feel to it, especially Herzog's. Wonderful tribute by the way. I'm glad so many people call it now a masterpiece or one of their fav movies of all time!
As a lifelong fan of William Friedkin, it is truly great to see that so many of you appreciate this wonderful film! To Zerokomma: you did a truly tremendous job for this tribute clip!! I salute you! For those who are interested, Friedkin's "The Exorcist" is being released on Blu-Ray on Oct.5th; he has indicated that, in fact, he is considering giving both "Sorcerer" and "Cruising" the Blu-Ray treatment in the near future, although no official dates have been set.
Thank you Mr. Zerokomma for posting a great tribute to my favorite actor, Roy Schieder. This film is on one of my top lists! The haunting soundtrack of Tangerine Dream is fitting. (I'm a big fan of TD). Over all - great performance!
I unfortunately didn't get to see Sorcerer when it was in theatres and caught it when it played on a cable movie channel. I loved it. It would be decades later that I had the opportunity to see Wages of Fear and finally compare the two films. They were unique in their own way and I couldn't say that one was better than other. However the truck crossing that crumbling bridge is still the highlight of the Friedkin remake. It's a shame that it failed to get the appreciation it deserves. I don't understand why the public rejected it; it's a tense action film.
Astonishing how this video just get's better and better.Brilliant edit Sir King Zero.Tangerine Dream, Roy Scheider and the finesse of the Komma's cut.Perfect.
hey me too. saw this film around 79 - 80 as a 3 or 4 year old on TV. Was haunted by certain scenes (trucks, truck over bridge, blowing up tree, dynamite). As i grew older i searched for the film but never found it. I searched everywhere. Up until about 5 or 6 years ago i'd totally forgotten about it. One day while looking at a poster displaying classic movies i saw a pic of the truck crossing the bridge and i knew it was it. I can't explain how much it means to me to find this film.
Very overlooked film. Saw this when I was about 9 on HBO and I still love this movie today. When I mention it to any of my friends they say they never heard of it. I recommend it all the time.
crazy to think that Tangerine Dream created this score using only a copy of the script. 2 heartbreaking moments in this movie "sorcerer" goes over the cliff and explodes, "spider" spinell showing up at the end and walking into the bar.
I found an awesome blogspot solely dedicated to Sorcerer, and thanks to it for example I came across very awesome and positive review from 1979 by some female critic who preferred Sorcerer to both the original novel and Clouzot's version! Long live the Sorcerer!
Sir, you're a man of style and wisdom! Agreed 100%. Kudos! Would love to see werner herzog attempting to remake Sorcerer...such a timeless story resrved for the best directors only
Your Right! The grille looks like the aztec demon face in the movie, and also has only one headlight. Like a one eyed cyclops. The trucks name was actually "Sorcerer". I only discovered this movie for the first time a week ago, and loved it, and was fascinated by it.
This movie is so freakin great. I must have watched it a billion times. It's like being sucked into another world. Seriously, I watch it and I forget who and where I am, it just completely hypnotizes me. My favorite part is when they get stuck by the fallen tree and they have to blow it up.
The trucks are the "stars" of the show, especially the one with the creepy-looking front end! Overall, a great movie with some of the most suspenseful scenes ever filmed. This is one movie which certainly deserves a lot more attention than it received when it was first released.
Friedkin himself said that he first time heard Tangerine Dream on the opening of "The Exorcist" in Munich, and that he would ask them to make music for that film if he knew of them earlier. I think that that would be strong combination.
It's no longer there, the guy took it down as he contacted Friedkin himself and that footage is going to make it to Sorcerer blu-ray/DVD coming out next spring. I thought about downloading it because I had a hunch it'd be taken down but I didn't do it, so no only the original uploader has it.
one of the best and my favourite movies. roy scheider at its best. music by tangerine dream (german band) is excellent aaswell. the u.s. dvd is available on universal pictures. a german dvd is not available yet, but i got a tv rip in good quality. 11 of 10
Completely agree on your examples, both Blade Runner and Under Fire being two of my personal favourites. Different times back then when music did not simply accompany the film in terms of rhythm or style with flashy Dolby Effects but functioned as a character contemplating on the films drama and mood. Goldsmith's Alien"comes in mind as a perfect example.
I first saw him in the seven ups and the french connection but didnt follow him till after jaws. He had a presence you cant fake as an actor. The camera loved him.
I've come to the conclusion that Sorcerer masterfully combines not only the naturalism of Herzog, but also the bleak, uncompromised nihilism of Peckinpah with a distinctive perversity of fate a'la Bunuel. It is fully a post-modern work of art that is very avantgarde and self-aware despite being inserted - at the surface structure - into a body of very enjoyable and spectacular adventure movie.
Exactly my sentiments. Sorcerer is a rare cinematic experience. Not sure about the Miller tune. Been looking to identify it myself. Imdb states the use of Charlie Parker's "I'll remember April" but i don't think that's it .If you find out let me know please and thanks for the comment.
RIP MR.Schieder.What a presence this guy had on screen.Again an astonishing edit by Zero.Hey will you be getting the blu ray release of The Seven Up's and Jaws 2 when they are released? That is if you don't already have them mate.He he.Take it easy.
Ordered Jaws 2 today brother, never miss out on The Mighty Royster in ULTRA HD pristine widescreen....what a great man!!! Keep them vids and comps of yours coming Master Zinco, its my psychosomatic muzak for the summer to come or ill go into full Hans Gruber mode.
Jaws 2 what an amazing movie. It had a battle to overcome the behemoth that was Spielberg's classic.Still surprised many and is worth multiple viewings. The boat explosion is brutal.
@friedkin Friedkin is the best, no director can compare to him. Good news about the BluRay, would be great to watch Sorcerer in its original form and in good quality. Thank u for the comment and i salute u too for your good taste in films.
Both are above brilliant film and each one has its strengths and weaknesses. But as far as cinematic experience goes u can't beat Friedkin's film especially when viewed on the big screen. And hell, Roy is in it. Thanks for the comment Myrth...appreciated.
This is one of those films that blurs the line between fact and fiction. Much like Aguirre Wrath of God, the production crew and actors actually had to do all the things that were required to make the fiction come to life. So isn't it real in the end? Great movie.
Although Tangerine dream and Vangelis are typical of the choice for most of the films of the 70's and 80's. Tangerine dream is for this pic what Vangelis is for bladerunner Goldsmith's music is what made an other movie "Under Fire", an epic . The tracks he wrote for it are literally molded into the scenes and scenery.
I edited Sorcerer's wikipedia page like a maniac. I think it now resembles a scholar's work, and the page is now ENORMOUS in its size. Feel free to visit it.
TD will tour Europe soon with Hans Lampe, Michael Rother and Dieter Moebius of Neu!, Harmonia and Cluster, playing the complete 'Sorcerer' soundtrack. Book April 3 for Copenhagen! It's the first time TD play in Scandinavia...
Great video as always ! Personnellement je préfère le film de Henri-Georges Clouzot "Le salaire de la peur", difficile de passer après un tel chef d'oeuvre, mais William Friedkin a tout de même fait un excellent film, et la musique de Tangerine Dream est saisissante !

One of my favourites. Amazing soundtrack too.
What a brilliant, wonderful gem. God bless you Roy. Cheers to the hope that more people see this fantastic movie.
I've seen ''Wages of Fear'', but I've still to catch Friedkin's remake. Knowing Scheider's track record, I know that I'm in for a treat! Excellent presentation G. :)
...definitely check it out bud, real masterpiece. The tension in this Friedkin epic is unbearable.
its better than the very badly aged french original, which has a great second half but the first half is incredibly poor
"Sorcerer" is a haunting, gripping, extraordinary piece of music. I loved the film. It is indeed underrated.
I saw it twice in '79 before I ever left the theatre. Captivated by it ever since.
Thank you sir....definitely an underrated classic.
It breaks my heart that this movie bombed at the box office but at the same time I like the feeling of being part of a small but passionate group of people who truly love this movie! Well done!
Beautiful movie awesome people REST in peace ROY S

R.I.P. Edgar Froese (Tangerine Dream)
Hope all is good in 2020 buddy.Amazing to come back and see these truly original and masterful edits.Hail to the king.
The surroundings truly transported the story to a distant planet.. Tangerine Dream was basically giving Friedkin the best of their recent tours.
Can't believe this movie is not shown more often.
IT is a CRIME that this movie and soundtrack have not been re released in the format that is befitting this masterpiece!!!
Very overlooked film. Saw this when I was about 9 on HBO and I still love this movie today. When I mention it to any of my friends they say they never heard of it. I recommend it all the time.
Excellent movie, i went to see this back in 1978 and it's Fantastic ! Roy's Fantastic
fantastic brings back the good old days fromT.D.
many thanks for this masterproduct
Saw it when I was about 12 and it has stuck with me. Im 44 and still can remember flashes of this movie
I saw this at the theater when it came out. I recall it was very intense, but what I really remembered from it was the great music.
nice tribute video for Roy well put together great sound track and visuals .
Thanks chief, appreciated :)

Mr. Tortellini, your a man of class and impeccable style. Merci for the comment!
The soundtrack gives this adventure movie a kind
of surreal atmosphere .
it does not get any better than this roy and zero,a perfect match..great stuff..seems like yesterday when my brain exploded watching this
These guys act just using their eyes. Nothing like it since the Sergio Leone Westerns.
Well said!
Sir, you're a man of style and wisdom! Agreed 100%. Kudos! Would love to see werner herzog attempting to remake Sorcerer...such a timeless story resrved for the best directors only

Blu-ray release of the month!!
Could you imagine Hollywood trying to remake this film today?
...exactly....and thanks for the kudos..
Mesmerizing, watched this a few a weeks ago but missed some of the finer details, due to crap laptop speakers. Superb!

Nice work, really good montage
In my book the term grit was invented for Sorcerer. Definitely check this movie out.
GOOD MOVIE
Roy Scheider is....the stapler.
@Taengren
you are more then welcome and i agree with u completely. Thanks for the great comment.
Bud, thanks for the comment. Roy rules! Cheers!
Thank you for the comment! I think the whole movie is underrated and its about time to rediscover Sorcerer.
show me people, who can continue that way??? hands up?!!!
Had the album since 1977. Better on CD :-)
Hi guys i never seen this flim yet but the sounds of td is great..
