Ported Intake Manifold: Worth The Price? SBS vs Stock RBC Dyno Shootout

  • We throw an SBSPerformance Ported RBC Intake Manifold on the dyno against a Stock RBC manifold to see the difference in power. A ported intake manifold is a cheap modification that many people do to their cars to pick up power. It's one part of the whole recipe needed for finding power N/A.
    We put 2 intake setups to the test to show the difference in intakes and how much power can be made using a stock K20.

    Great comparison and great info Alex, you guys been keeping me inspired and motivated and pushing myself. I finally just finished putting together my k24a2 swap my fisrt time EVER doing a swap (to anything literally) but I kept at it and STOPPED doubting myself and finally... got to hear the motor run in the car. Soon hopefully one day I can bring the car down for a dyno session . You guys are amazing keep doing what you do. WORK HARD STAY HUMBLE 👍👍

    While i dont have a 4-banger. Doing an NA build on a 3000gt..Seeing the gains you guys are getting from even simple mods is promising. Currently my 3000gt has longtube headers, had a full exhaust made for it to be as straight as possible and only has 1 25 degree bend to get as much flow as possible, IMR intake manifold (shortened runners and bigger surge tank) with a 90mm hypertune TB, 550cc injectors, 255lph fuel pump, Stand alone ecu, 14lbs flywheel. and a very simply CAI only has 1 bend and is 3.5in diameter to match the TB. Working on getting Cams,gears,port and polished, +1 oversized valves, Im 7.5k in on a 2k $ car and i couldnt care less about the cost lol. Its not built yet to be fair. Waiting on the intake manifold to get here. Then everything is getting installed. And then tuned. Hoping for between 215-225 whp before the heads get built. Love these NA dyno pulls on this stock k-series

    I did the same test with a SBS ported RBC and then stock RRC ,and the RRC made more power down low and made 1hp more then SBS peak so in the end result was RRC for the win for less then buying a new rbc and sending it out to get ported.
    The test was done on a jdm k20a from a ep3.
    I believe that a k24a2 would have benefited from the SBS ported RBC

    I have to agree about the Fuel PSI. A company here (Sydney) said it wouldn't do anything in my all motor. I went from 37 to 60 and picked up 1.2 seconds per lap. Nobody can dyno Hondata here in Tasmania Australia.

    On my Subarus I've done this to every single one, over the last decade about 5 cars total. My results were amazing.
    I didn't really port though, I just polished. The only time I didn't get at least 15-25 torque, something else was wrong, the one case was an exhaust leak I didn't notice before the front air/fuel sensor. Once I fixed that the boring car was really fun.
    I'm working on a video with measured results now. Subaru has really long runners for low end torque from the factory, therefore I believe that's why it makes such a drastic difference. There's a lot of air drag and skin friction in the factory aluminum manifolds, there's a lot of power to be found there. 💯

    Are the headphones used for knock detection? What about a video on the cruising area or even screen mirroring the laptop for some insight. Not saying show everything but just some more in depth

    When flowing engine parts or anything it's best to have a flow bench. I don't know if the place that is flowing the manifold has a flow bench or not. Once you have the right combination on flowing say heads you would set up a fixture & run them all the same with your cutters that mounted on the valve stem guides.That way you don't have to check flow rate on every one on the flow bench. I used to know a guy that did motorcycle heads. Just my two cents.

    You guys needs to do, RRC vs RBC stock vs RBC ported vs Skunk intake.. for k20a stock.. that will be a mad test. Those are for the most average Joe that puts their hands on those intakes.. .

    Imo, I don't think the SBS Port is worth it, its $385 + 200 (for a rbc manifold). You are in for it more then a s2 ultra street at around 450-500 brand new! I guess next video is comparison between this vs a s2 ultra street or race? Thanks for the awesome content!

    With a bigger throttle body and better intake it would’ve been in the 240’s easily with that manifold I think. Still made good power though despite the lack of supporting mods. Absolutely loved the video you guys kill it every time! 🙏💪🐐

    He’ll yea man, elvis at sbs is the man hard working guy. His work is proven power I run k24 bottom and his street ported k20a2 Head matched with the sbs intake open to a 80mm Tb, with drag cartel elite series cams and make 280 on x85 with a safe tune!!

    All inhectors are different and yeah what happens with the too much fuel pressure is that the injector cant open or struggles to open. Keep up the work boys.. love the work you all do! ✌🏼

      Maybe start looking at diesel injectors to mod and fit? They run very high pressures to atomise the diesel for a good burn

    Guys love your videos !! Especially the one’s with advice on tuning. I’m having problems with my car running very lean at cold start. Then after it’s warmed AFR is at 14.7ish. This happened after I installed the hybrid CAI on my fa5 si and loaded a base map of the injen CAI. If you guys can give me a few pointers it’ll be very much appreciated. Try adding 10% fuel on low fuel on first column still same . Noob at this , but willing to learn. Have to start from the bottom to go to the top ! Thanks guys keep up the good work and stay HUMBLE.

    Great idea, always wanted to know what the best drop in cam would be on a kseries motor please test the skunk2, drag cartel, brain crower, 4p and kelford drop in cam.

    I don't kno if you mentioned this but...
    When you have your full engine built you will/should gain even more..
    So it was 4 hp on a stock motor but could be 15 hp on a built motor..
    A lot of bolt ons just free up power the motor engine itself can make..

    IDK why but at 14 min I got a weird memory of being in a shop as a kid and I want that. I have my drive way but no friends. Lol. Im always changing my set up on my Civic cause I got too many turbos a cheap welder and pipe. I've done my kit like 4 times. Not I'm done and funny enough it's on a log style Mani gt35 r. 3in to the back lol.

    Bro what I want to know is how you got 223 out of a stock k20 I put Hondata race tune calibrations in with my bolt ons and I don’t even think I’m making that.

    what about R40 heads, i have never hear you guys talk about those head . Rbc manifold with a 50 degree vtc with a tuned can that work on a k24z2,3, engines
