I work in a bookstore in Australia, and we class all the Colleen Hoover as "General Fiction" and at the moment because it's a much hyped book it's also on the "New Titles" wall under the TikTok books.
I kind of feel the opposite about series ans sequels. I think i love them more than standalones and that's because we get more time with characters so i connect with them more. As for standalones, i feel like by the time i start caring about them the book is about to end 😂😭

I loved I Must Betray You!!! I never knew anything about Romania so it was amazing to learn about it and how strong they were through that!!! I wish the book/ mainly the ending was longer though!!!
I really like series! I like stand-alones too but when I fall in love with characters I love seeing them for multiple books!!
atlas is getting his own story (i believe it’s a prequel) that comes out this year!

I read Fountains of Silence on your recommendation and really enjoyed it! I’m planning on reading all of the author’s other books.
I just finished “I Must Betray You.” It is absolutely incredible! I loved it so much that I am making it my next pick for book club. As many people as possible need to read this book. I will definitely be picking up some of Sepetys’ recommended resources for this novel once my TBR is more manageable.
I read The Gilded Ones and felt the same! I don't know if I'll pick up the sequel, but I did enjoy this one a lot!
Also take a shot (of water) every time Hailey mentions she doesn't like sequels🤣
I also prefer standalone books but there are a few series I'm reading! But there are other series where I only read the first book.

I read an ARC of The Merciless Ones (Gilded Ones sequel) and loved it.
I'm rereading the epic spy novel Beyond Enkription. It's the first of six stand-alone thrillers in The Burlington Files series based on his life. It’s a titanic action packed novel set in 1974 in London, Nassau and Port au Prince. The protagonist, Edward Burlington, is a far from boring accountant who unwittingly works for MI6. He later works eyes wide open for the CIA. It's so real it made me wonder what’s the point of reading espionage fiction when facts are so much more exciting.
If you're an espionage cognoscenti, don't skip the prologue thinking you know it all. If you're squeamish speed read the brutal bits in Chapter 1. Thereafter it's a compelling read as double agents, disinformation and deception weave wondrously within the relentless twists and turns of evolving events as Burlington fights to survive. I loved this down to earth, magnetic and exceptional novel. Whether you're a Cornwell connoisseur, a Deighton disciple, a Fleming fanatic or a Herron hireling, so should you.
Indeed, Mick Herron and Len Deighton could be forgiven for thinking they co-wrote this noir narrative. In some enigmatic ways it reminded me of Ted Lewis' "Jack's Return Home" (namely Get Carter of Michael Caine fame). Edward Burlington is a sophisticated multi-dimensional anti-Bond character who doesn't wear glasses. If anyone ever makes a film based on Beyond Enkription they'll only have themselves to blame if it doesn't go down in history as a classic espionage thriller. In the meantime do read it and given it's fact based you'll find researching it becomes as compelling as reading this thriller.
I feel the same way about reading new authors and worlds as you do about sequels, lol. Also I loved hearing you say you don't figure things out about what's going to happen: I always felt so weird for "missing" what others predicted but lately I've been feeling more like people are enjoying things less because they author didn't do what they assumed and thought best, so I like the style of reading/watching that's more just along for the ride rather than focusing on predictions! Who has got time for that anyway...

I found colleen hoover pre book toks days. It amazes me how book tok picked her up so fast. I read all of her slam series before book tok. Go for those one to.

I get that about sequels. I actually find I prefer standalones. The story just feels more cohesive and complete in comparison to series.

I started with Verity as my first Colleen Hoover read, and I got too disturbed and had to DNF. Now I am too scared to read anymore of her books.😬
Colleen Hoover is shelved with romance or YA where I work and in some of the cases I am not ok with it ...
Raybearer is one my favorite books but I disliked The gilded ones.

The thing i don’t understand is how you guys can read so many books like in a month i can read max maybey 2 or 3 not much 🥲
It’s literally their job. I work part time for myself and can read about 20 myself. When you have a job and other responsibilities it’s different
I read max 3 a month too! I think a possible reason why ppl read rly fast might be bc they listen to the book on audio as well? Mine is purely reading so thats why
@@irraumairah5458 I tend to read fast and don’t have an outside job. I can read a book a day - especially on plasma days. I start a book in line at plasma, get up to 200 or so pages in while there, then finish at home. 3 books is still awesome! It’s always a good month when you get to read at least one book
