Having worked for Steve in the early 2000s, I can attest to the fact he leads through people, and values relationships and other people. Great talk Steve! Sorry I JUST found it, I’m sharing it with my students in the classroom!
"Technology doesn't innovate, people do. Technology isn't disrupting any industry. And it's important to realize that what technology is doing is enabling and amplifying the potential of people."-great message!
Love the 3 elements of the old mindset. 1. Control it all (thinking so) 2. Mistake aversion (hiding) 3. Know it all (shuffle) Simple test I will consciencely use when going into business relationships.
the following is what i keep saying to people too, from 02:06 whatever it is you want the future to look like and what I want to put to you Today is that we have a massive mindset gap between the world we operate in and the potential of people and technology to do great things. And we confront it every day in our working lives and often in other aspects of our lives, and we need to talk more about this because we need to talk about the way we've been taught to think and the way that we need to start thinking for start change is hard because change is human organizations don't change their people change, and we don't change without confronting our fear there's fear it's undeniable it is there yet we do so little to call it to confront it and help each other through it .
Being romantic about how you arrived at your career position is very widespread - particularly among IT people; ask an old school IT guy about cloud projects and stand back as they explode
Steve, I too have been in the technology industry for 36 years even at the front of the most complex technical faults for Telstra Ltd, proud of it solving the issues like Max De Costa (Mat Dameon) would from the movie Elysium (2013). imagine if that technology did innovate in other words Artificial Intelligence mass producing it's own, scary stuff, humanity would be in grave danger on this planet. I am glad that is us and not them... think about it and let me know if I am right?

With message rarely heard and well-summarized.
