Colerne May Fair 1987 -- See graded version here ----

Shot on Super 8 film. The Colerne village fair happens every year around the month of May. It brings the village together for a happy, fun time in the English sunshine. This is a time when the procession used to start at the south end of the village.

I lived in North Colerne as a child in the early 80s. I was the May Queen at Colerne Primary School either '80 or '81. I remember dancing round the maypole on tbe school field amd eating marmite sandwiches. This brings back lovely memories. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. Happy days indeed. I wonder if you saw yourself in the film. When I filmed that day, it was "just another May fair". How wrong I was. It is a capsule of a time that has gone for ever.

How wonderful this film was, not a mobile phone in sight, happy people, real community spirit, I recognised several people who are sadly no longer with us and many of the children will now have children of their own. Happy days, I would go back in a heartbeat if it was possible. I've lived in Chippenham 30 years this October, but Colerne is where my heart is

Fabulous, just shared with my kids as 1 is in the rickshaw and the other is walking alongside it with his dad? Derek, who died nearly 7 years ago now so very precious to see this. Stuart asked if there are anymore?

I have just checked the dates. Its 1987 not 1989. The poster at 1:06 tells us its Saturday 16th May. In 1989 the 16th May was a Tuesday. Still an amazing video :)

Ho Jody. Thanks for date change. I had 89 written on the film can as well as the tape. It surprised me because I didn't think I had started filming in 87. Oh well. I have changed the title. Will have to re load it. All the best.
