Impressive being able to rattle off the names of the weeds/plants in your path

Thanks! I've been looking up all the plants as I come across them. Now most of them are memorized.

That's a grass whip i have a European scythe myself and i do agree it definitely isn't obsolete, i will probably never use a weed wacker ever again for three reasons, one my hands suffer from hand arm vibration syndrome the fingers tips will go white when using vibrating tools i don't wish to have them amputated, two several years ago i was using a brush blade and had a 4cm piece of fencing wire launched in my left leg causing a permanent limp that im dealing with the scythe when it hits stuff just eats the edge which requires a trip to the anvil to re pean the edge to a sharpenable serviceable point, three im currently trying to eliminate fossil fuels from my farm going to the point that ive told my Amish friends that i actually want to start a horse drawn equipment shop and remanufacture parts for all the different shops that im aware of my friend Steven of community carriage even introduced me to all the carrage trade shops in NE OH we both live in SE OH my current order of planns is to restore my 1888-1920s frick sawmill construct a hay loft barn, i bought a hay trolly rail for a $1 at an auction i drove another Amish sawmiller friend to,I got a good idea what the values of horse drawn mowers, easy way lose hay loaders, steel wheel hay wagons, grain binders&corn binder were worth and got two complete knives for my ihc no9 sickle bar mowers for half price those mowers were the last of the horse mowers one of mine was the last year (51) and has the really rare air ride tires on it thats both cool and a headache to deal with because the rims are not available and i found two replacement and one was completely perfect and the other needs severe pitting filling so im going to get an education on welding so i can do it right

That is awesome! I'm just starting this journey myself and I appreciate the feedback. Can you recommend any additional non-power tools I might not know about that you find useful? I'm studying the topic now for a future video, and I'm thinking you're very knowledgeable on the subject.

Too late for the video dialog, but I changed the video name to reflect your correction. I've always heard it called a scythe. After your comment, I looked it up and now see the difference. I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me.

@Bobcatjack well the scythe I bought is a FUX there are height requirements to the snath (handle) and the improper height will affect how easy it is to use the American scythe was a stamped steel design much heavier thus more cumbersome to use but they were very cheap to produce thus why they are so prominent here in the states (and probably why string trimmers even became popular) American scythes can't be sharpened with a conventional scythe stone they have to be filed and honed with a more durable stone , as for the horse drawn stuff there is a overhead to getting started with using the stuff from the training of the animals to the equipment itself however if you're truly interested the small farmers journal and rural heritage are a good start for information they even have information on handtools and horse breeds

@@wesbrackmanthercenthusiast4695 thanks. I'll look up those books. Since I'm doing videos as I learn, I'll need to study.
