- Sky News host James Morrow says the left is “worried the jig is up” as Opposition Leader Peter Dutton continues his push for nuclear power against renewables.
“Is it just me or does Peter Dutton seem to have really struck a nerve here with this whole nuclear power option,” Mr Morrow said.
“When I watch the reaction to what the Opposition is saying these days … they are worried that the jig is up.”

I lived in the UK for over 10 years and never once read or heard ANY concerns about their nine nuclear power stations. And why don't we hear the residents of Lucas Heights freaking out?

There is a simple reason ....
It's called reliability and the reliability table .......
Nuclear has by far the highest capacity factor of any other energy source. This basically means nuclear power plants are producing maximum power more than 92% of the time during the year.
Nuclear is nearly 2 times more reliable than natural gas and coal units, and almost 3 times or more reliable than wind and solar plants.
This is what wind and solar ideologues do not want you talking about comparisons between Nuclear, Gas and wind, and solar plants.
Renewable plants must be considered intermittent or variable sources and are limited by a lack of fuel (i.e. wind, sun, or water). As a result, these plants will always need a backup power source such as large-scale storage (not currently available anywhere in the world at grid-scale capacity
A typical nuclear reactor produces 1 gigawatt (GW) of electricity there is no other generation Plant that can achieve this

Nuclear energy means cheaper electricity, lets lift the ban and join the rest of the world.
Centralized energy sources, including nuclear power, tend to increase costs and provide a convenient tax base for governments. Decentralized electricity generation is a far better solution. Solar PV systems on every roof, paired with three days of battery storage, can address 90% of domestic power requirements at a lower cost. Nuclear power is one of the most expensive options available. In Europe, wind energy is more viable than solar, while in Australia, solar energy is more viable than wind. A mix of renewable energy sources is often the best approach. Large-scale nuclear power is ludicrously expensive. Small modular nuclear reactors could be less costly if they utilize off-the-shelf technology, but not if they require custom designs. At the end of the day, any approach that further centralizes power generation is a disaster for household energy independence.

Batteries are another thing though...$ for watt still hideously expensive (when you factor in production and end of life costs). I'm hoping we'll see some sort of 'battery breakthrough' technology that will address that issue. Fingers crossed!!! 👍🏻

For the last 12 month period the AEMO dashboard shows that SA power was provided 70% by renewables and 30 % by gas. The average price in SA so far in 2024 has been 7.4 cents per kWh ($74.26 per MWh) which is cheaper than both NSW and QLD and MUCH cheaper than say France, even before you include the Govt subsidies to Nuclear.

Why nuclear I own a 4 bedroom house air con pool with filter running electric costs 60 euro's per month about 100AUD one 45 minute black out in 9 years i was holidaying here before covid. I have all mod cons what more could I want petrol is expensive but we don'y pay rego you pay a transfer fee when you buy a car mine cost 167euros and that is all you pay yes you have insurance but no dearer than oz. Life is good why would I want to return to a place I could no longer afford to live. I receive medical care I have had 2 new hips Albo and his hopeless communist government has ruined one of the best countries in the world with their renewable shit.

There are a lot of naive people in this country that still think renewables are the cheapest form of energy and we can see that there are a lot of dollars to be made and so they will strive to push this madness no matter what and we need to push back. These people who keep saying it is cheap have no understanding of the mechanics of it and our power bills will keep escalating until we get to 2050 what a future we are in for, we must have nuclear.

I would like to see Australia go back to coal. It is cheaper and reliable. As for nuclear energy I have an open mind to it. I think we should forget about renewables. Since going that way the cost of everything has skyrocketed. Labor's claim that it is the cheapest form of energy is laughable.

Renewable energy is not the cheapest of energy. We have to have 24/7 energy and solar/wind can’t supply that. All renewables are a cost on top of coal/gas/nuclear. How can an extra cost possibly be cheaper. Rediculous.
