Foreign Legion: the Secrets of a Selection
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 гру 2022
- Every July 14 in Paris, during the parade on the Champs-Élysées, the soldiers of the Foreign Legion are among the most anticipated. Of these soldiers, we know above all the feats of arms in the most dangerous theaters of operation on the planet. For months, we have followed the scenes of their selection and training. These new recruits learn to fight, to live together and, above all, to unite. But at each step, the aspiring legionnaires risk elimination. Director: Frédéric Cristea

What i love about the legion, men who could not communicate and could possibly be enemies under other circumstances become both allies, brothers and unquestionable loyalty. Every single man there is a volunteer. There are no conscription. Every man chose the legion.
So it is in the French, British American and many other countries. We all volunteered. I just kept volunteering for eleven years LOL
3 more months then I'll be joining the Legion as well, wish me luck brothers
will be joining you soon as well, God with you!
Ill be seeing the two of you over there im also heading out there in four months

Nah finished 25/10/22
It's a lot better today compared when i did it. Government did a heavy crackdown after people died during training and just brutal punishments being thrown around. You had beatings and 2-3 hours of sleep during basics with people hallucinating and what not . We had more than one just breaking and more than one person being sent to a mental felicity. You can train great soldiers without breaking them. Glad to see it has moved forward and i hope it's not just because cameras are around.
What did you do to be accepted?
@@SunnyDays_StaryNightsJust do as youre told.
You can get rid of unwanted recruits by forcing them out also
What regiment were you in?
I was there in 2017. I only saw beatings when people really fucked up or answered back. Group punishment was still there, but a fist to the stomach once or twice a week really didnt bother me.
We had one guy breaking mentally during the farm, but he was shaky from the start. The training is hard, the discipline is hard and, food is scarce and sleep is rare, but everyone but 2 guys in my group finished the Kepi blanc march.
I think we had 4-5 hours of sleep every night at the farm, night patrol duty included. It was manageable.
As an American pmc I was at camp lemonade. Had a bad experience with some locals that tried to take me for money. I was able to rock my way out the window and running down the street carrying my laptop and backpack. A legionare jeep passed me and asked me if I needed a ride. Their were about 5 guys left that were chasing me. The legionares took care of them and saved my butt. Great bunch of guys

@@scottlahey2243 exactly, the paras wear red/maroon, but not the legion paras. They also wear green, just the same insignia (winged dagger) instead of the flamme & granate.

Château de Puivert (Puivert Castle), scene of the movie "The ninht gate" by Roman Polanski, starring Johnny Depp. It must be a privilege to spend the night on that historical spot. The Legion has that privilege.
Wow!!! Just noticed that a few minutes ago!! Thought i was the only one to notice that!! And that's an amazing movie. The ninth gate. Polanski is a genius filmmaker.
Having worked in the Algeria, France, and Germany. I met many French, Algerian, veterans. Also lots of German legionaire vets. We had lots of laughs and much information to exchange. Germans escae ging to prison
There were times when as much as 40% of the Legion was composed of Germans. During WW1 and WW2 people wondered if these German Legionnaires would fight for France. The Legion was their country.

In the US Army the instructors cannot have anything in their hands and play with it, because the distraction it creates. I got gigged on this and for having my hat on the cargo pocket the first day. I also warned the students not to overeat. If anyone fell asleep, they would spent 15 min on the front leaning rest. Of course when I turned my back to them, they would put their knees down and I always made it clear when I was turning, so they can get up and think, they got over on me. Eventually I got their attention and they no longer fell asleep.
Best Documentary always bringing the best 👌
The warrant officer is magnificent. He's one hell of a soldier, teacher and a great leader.

The Foreign Legion can tear every Soldier of every Army appart. No Force can be as stong as the French Legion.

@The_Gambler10 you speak quick but don't really know about the topic.
@A gigantic societal break down will happen And you base this on what? On the little bit of basic training you ese here? This is just Castelnaudary, it's Kindergarten essentially.
It's mostly ramassage (aka lots of punishment and disciplinary) and only VERY basic training + LOTS of PT to get your cardio and toughness up. Lots of drill and lots of learning French.
The REAL training doesn't start until you hit the regiment.

That poor South African... he was in for a rude awakening. I thought the same thing, I was so filled with pride... then the bus took us back to Castelnaudary for the other 3 months of basic training and the ramassage commenced again immediately :D

@@bravobase6801 That's good to hear, usually after Castelnaudary the bs mostly ends anyway, so long as you're relatively well behaved.
I just had to laugh as it reminded me of myself with the whole "I'm part of the family now, no more engagé volontaire", only to have that illusion shattered swiftly. I mean he's not wrong, I meant more in the sense of now the ramassage really begins, because now they expect more from you.

After all this shit then they got a wake up call of note when they reached their combat regiments😂😂 months more of shit they never expected. This is only the first phase of training, basically an intro to drill and basic weapons handling, bit of tactics here and there but nothing too hectic. Once you reach your combat regiment you go through basic training or instruction as they call it. It's also possible to drop out at this stage. But it's much more tactical, you know how to march and how to sing like a knob. Now you go through the different weapons introductions and training. Much more specialised training and they weed you out once again for various specialist courses etc. If you're shit then say hello to the kitchen, if you're good then there some awesome options.
Ils sont trop beau 😊
Ah.. la ferme de cuin, how I DO NOT miss this place.
I look back to my days in basic training in the army at FT Benning and wow we ate good I loved the fruit bar and would eat grapes cantaloupe that Mellon and my cottage cheese along with scramble eggs you only have 5 min but it takes me 3 min to prep all my food for consumption then 2 min to get it in and it worked
Watching this reminds me of the Beau Geste movie ....

I always ran these in the army
First I’ll say there spacing when they were furring there blanks is no good to close to each other not only that why advance like it’s the 1800 in a line but with machine guns you stop the dude from taking cover to advance and keep going further you receive contact and line up and advance in a straight line but firing in that direction I machine gunner could of wiped that whole squad or a good grenade I do know it’s like there first training so I guess good job other wise I guess baby steeps
看着感觉还不错啊
Translation problems, they call their platoon leader 'mon adjudant' which means 'warrant officer', they mistranslated many times as sergeant or corporal.
Must be an old film as am sure they don’t use the Famas rifle anymore

The translators tried their best. I'm hoping I never have to join the legion, but it's always an option. I hear they are 80% janitor 10% getting beat and 10% bread and wine.
Served in the 80's. A mop and a sponge are a big part of your first couple of years.
Everything is done in the Legion by the Legion.
beatings arent really a thing anymore. France is an European country in EU after all, rules have changed a lot since the couple of decades ago when beatings were a thing.
Tho the cleaning part is really a part of every military, you clean everything.
Served in the 90s - at war constantly, and much of the corvees pass to the junior guys a yr after Castel

Need a little bit more spacing in their woodland assault. Grouping that close together, especially in the explosive-heavy modern battlespace, will lead to a squad being quickly wiped out/disabled. The old standard was 3-5 meter intervals, but with modern warfare I'd say you want to be closer to the 5m. However, pretty well done considering how new these recruits are.
They were just in their first weeks in the Legion, they will be more trained in one more year.
