  • Shakeel Badayuni (Real Name: Shakeel Ahmed) (1916 - 1970) was a leading Urdu ghazal poet of the mid-20th century. Known for his lyrical style and beautiful "tarannum", he was very popular in mushairas. Shakeel was also a prolific film song-writer in the Bombay film industry, and wrote some of the biggest hits of the time, including "O duniya kay rakhwaale" and "man taRpat hari darshan ko aaj". Shakeel received several Filmfare Awards for his song-writing. He died in 1970 at the young age of 54. Several collections of his poetry have been published, both during his lifetime and posthumously.
