And Athenian general Iphicrates developed tactics that would defeat Spartan heavy troops with light troops.

It wasn't 300, tho 😂. I think it was more like a few thousand. Nonetheless still amazing

It was only 300 Spartans. There were a few thousand other Greek soldiers, mostly from Athens I think, with them. And the Spartans did most of the heavy fighting. The other soldiers were used for diversions or flanking attacks and other stuff. But not as the main fighting body.
They were still important. The 300 Spartans by themselves never could have held the Persians there. They'd of been ended way to quickly. But they were the main fighters.

The Spartans were not all that they’re cracked up to be. They got some great press from the rear guard at Thermopylae. The crazy stories mostly come from the Roman’s who basically wanted to boost tourism once they conquered Greece.

Here's a thought for the continual decline in the Spartan population other than the obvious losses to battle.
Men who are 'used to the company of men', likely had more issue with women, than this video drew attention to...
'Ahh, go gay' likely conditioned them to precisely that, so while good for camaraderie, performing with women, would likely have been an unspoken of problem in Spartan society 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

It wasn’t that they weren’t having kids, it’s that they wouldn’t let poor kids who were Spartan citizens to join their army.

The Spartan Heiresses were an immensely wealthy group of women. During and after the collapse of Sparta, where did this wealth go? Aristotel diatribe against the position of women in Sparta, which he regards as a corruption of the natural order and a root cause of the inequality of Spartan society a weakness as a political power. As he points out, the territory of Sparta could easily support a levy of 30,000 hoplites and 1,500 cavalry, but the bad laws with regard to property and inheritance and the resulting greed and influence of the women have driven the number of full Spartan citizens below 1,000. Plutarch corroborates the story of growing inequality. He describes the state of Sparta a century later, around 240 BC, when the forces that Aristotle identified as key to the decline of Sparta had spun entirely out of control. Rome conquered Sparta and the rest of Greece in 146 BC, though Sparta was only a shadow of itself by then.

Well Ancient Greece wasn't a country in the modern sense of the word. Sure, they had a shared Hellenistic religion and culture, but they also had distinct 'city-states' that were each run by their own individual governments, meanwhile there was no federal power to unite them.
The 'Spartan Empire' was really just comparable to if say... Texas took over the United States. It's still the United States, but its ruled by Texans.
      You get me?
