Victor Borge never rehearsed, either. In fact, he said that he was never entirely sure, what he would end up doing on stage, he just had a lot of stuff and then did whatever felt right in the moment. He felt it kept him more interesting and authentic. So basically, you have two insanely talented lunatics farting around on stage, doing whatever fits the moment, and doing it so beautifully :-D
Victor Borge was nervous about performing this with Dean unrehearsed. Dean's producer told him that performing unrehearsed was Dean's genius. He told Victor "Don't worry - it'll be great." He was right!
I've always liked the Dean Martin stuff but to see the way Victor Borge and him play off each other is truly a classic with both of them trying to keep it together! LOVE IT! You can't find this kind of entertainment anymore I'm afraid! This is one of a kind! :)
I'm a Brit and have never been overly impressed by American comedy (Bob Newhart and Tom Lehrer excepted) but these two have me speechless - Borge I knew was very funny but Martin excels here as a feed...classic stuff...five stars...
Actually a sad story. He was a classically trained pianist but had to flee Denmark in the 40'es due to Nazi persecution of Jews. But out of the terror came the light that Borge got to perform on a larger stage than possible in Denmark
Victor is nothing short of a genius but Dean has an amazing quality of making his counterparts shine oh so much brighter. Two amazing entertainers equates to tears of laughter :D
Thank God for the information age and the likes of youtube. I am 51 and I actually remember seeing this on Dean's show live. I must have been less than 10 years old at the time and I remember laughing so hard. Reliving these scenes brings back laughs and memories. Thank you for posting this.
Just love Victor Borge. Watched him as a child in the 70's and friends re-introduced us to him 2 years ago. Can't get enough. Intelligent, witty, and as someone below said, heartwarming.
august 1964 me hitchhiking from Copenhagen to Putgarten listening to Borge on this danish radio while laughing and having a royal wee in my pants with a dutch friend in a lorry
Actually I saw an interview that one of the producers said they taped an ashtray on the floor in front of Dean so he could put it out by stepping on it.
I love it! This was passed on to me by my Writing professor from Warner Pacific College in Oregon; and I just happen to love Dean Martin! Classic comedy!! 2 thumbs up!
i can only say , in this case youtube is great , this type of humor is lost as well as the people , todays humor is bereft of imagination ( not all of course ) miss you guys
Hi all, I have some rare footage with Victor Borge - recorded in his native country Denmark. He partly speaks Danish, but I have applied English subtitles for those parts. This is the playlist (Enjoy!): ua-cam.com/play/PLCby7t-aPVUksdwJPSy7ov7-tHibgxC4h.html
@leung Yes, absolutely amazing - ha ha - Remember Dave Allen? He sat on a bar stool, smoking - and drinking - the whole show of 30 minutes 😁 BR, Per Borgen (Denmark)
I was told by a friend in the know that when Mr Borge was in his last moments of life he was experiencing some delerium and was making these same type noises before he gave up the ghost.
Sometimes I wish I lived during these times. This is good humor and tv. Nowadays it's only fart, dick and vagina jokes and the occasional jersey shore guidos with toothpick-legs on tv..
I’ll tell you what I think about this - a/ it is really funny, and b/ what happened to great voices? I was startled by Dean’s amazingly beautiful singing - you don’t hear beautiful singing any more. Back in their time there were lots of mainstream great voices. These days they mostly grunt groan or shout.
Victor wasn't the first one ua-cam.com/video/S92PT2r2itQ/v-deo.html But in the German system was the question mark a wobbled line and the komma the noise, Victor used as question mark.

Remember Victor on PBS when I was 15 in 1979. Never gets old. So funny.
I miss Victor Borge's humor. Sheer genius. Also, Dean Martin had an incredible voice. BTW, I remember seeing this original broadcast. What fun!
The dick van dike show
I just watched this with my 5 year old, and we were both laughing. It's hard to find comedy that the family can watch together nowadays.
I'm a Brit and have never been overly impressed by American comedy (Bob Newhart and Tom Lehrer excepted) but these two have me speechless - Borge I knew was very funny but Martin excels here as a feed...classic stuff...five stars...
Well to be fair Victor was a danish immegrant
Actually a sad story. He was a classically trained pianist but had to flee Denmark in the 40'es due to Nazi persecution of Jews. But out of the terror came the light that Borge got to perform on a larger stage than possible in Denmark
I love the way Victor just starts giggling at Dean!
Victor is nothing short of a genius but Dean has an amazing quality of making his counterparts shine oh so much brighter. Two amazing entertainers equates to tears of laughter :D
two adult children playing... brilliant!
That is a BEAUTIFUL way of putting it!
hehehe very entertaining.. :)

That's a lie!!!! You're 59.
Just love Victor Borge. Watched him as a child in the 70's and friends re-introduced us to him 2 years ago. Can't get enough. Intelligent, witty, and as someone below said, heartwarming.
Imagine the look on my face when my Danish grandmother told me I was related to Victor Borge.
LOVE VICTOR BORGE!!!! DEAN WAS JUST AS AMAZING!!!! COMEDY ISN'T THE SAME
Jennifer Garnett 2
Also, notice how Dean obviously respects Victor which was a rare occurrence for many others he performed with.
Are you saying was rare for Dean to respect other performers or that it was rare for a performer to respect Victor?
So sad that these great's are no longer with us, but thanks to youtube we can walk down memory lane. Thanks for posting.
You've got to be someone special to upstage Dean Martin.
Two very talented performers! It brings back great memories.
This had me laughing 'til I cried! Love this!
I've seen this clip so so many times and the humor gets me every time. #timelessandpriceless
Just notice how quickly and perfectly Dean picks up the sounds. He has the ear!
Oh my lord! That made me laugh too hard. I am such a language teacher!
Hillarious.I loved them both.Thank you for posting•♫♪ ॐ¸¸.•*¨*•♫
I nearly died laughing at "You can kiss me on Monday (comma) Monday (comma) Monday (comma) and Monday is the best (period)" :D
When comedy was funny and at the same time unique. Good old days wish i were born in that time.
august 1964 me hitchhiking from Copenhagen to Putgarten listening to Borge on this danish radio while laughing and having a royal wee in my pants with a dutch friend in a lorry
We all miss these two great artist. Can't stop laughing.
Outstanding comedy!
Nothing better than watching a funny guy being made to laugh.
The world has had superior comedians since, but nothing and no one will EVER come close to the giants of yesteryear!
My two favorite musicians of the era, performing together!
they were truly the greatest entertainers i've ever heard on stage - Mr. Borge and Mr. Martin did it SO well
Imagine that today; a show host smoking a cigarette on live tv and then casually throwing it on the floor and stomping it out...
Some things have improved.
and completely drunk too. :-(
Actually I saw an interview that one of the producers said they taped an ashtray on the floor in front of Dean so he could put it out by stepping on it.
Classic and just so smooth
I love it! This was passed on to me by my Writing professor from Warner Pacific College in Oregon; and I just happen to love Dean Martin!
Classic comedy!! 2 thumbs up!
This will crack you up!
LOL! Now why don't singers of today do that?:)
Tears of laughter are falling
LOVE!
i can only say , in this case youtube is great , this type of humor is lost as well as the people , todays humor is bereft of imagination ( not all of course ) miss you guys
Hilarious and heartwarming :)
Brilliant!
Brilliant, thanks so much for uploading this wonderful clip.
Briljant those twoo like always
This is great. So much fun!!! What talents. thank you for posting.
Dean Martin is awsome, but when he tries to do phonetic punctuation it kinda sounds like he's strangling Donald Duck... :D
no, he was simply only drunk.
Victor even cracks Dino up schhhh ppt!
Genius
Priceless!
Oh, this is genius.

Tchh. Phht. Cccchhhrrrttt.
I love it phht.
I was told by a friend in the know that when Mr Borge was in his last moments of life he was experiencing some delerium and was making these same type noises before he gave up the ghost.
That sounds hard to believe as he died peacefully in his sleep.
@@hildegardderbal5908 yes.
HAHAHAAHAHAA! Brilliant!
Classic.
any wise man can help me with the song called '''remember the night''' that Dean sang,,could not find it anywhere,,,,please help me good man
Sometimes I wish I lived during these times. This is good humor and tv. Nowadays it's only fart, dick and vagina jokes and the occasional jersey shore guidos with toothpick-legs on tv..
Dean always has a cigarette in his hands
Imagine my face when I read that!! O.o
@Jasminpigen Yes I know. I was commenting on Dean Martin.
I'm an old fashion guy, could any one of the old fashioned people kindly provide me with the name of the song they started singing in 5:03
"Do Re Mi" from Sound of Music. A classic.
I was just thinking this. XD
Thanks to all our

Dean Martin's punctuation mark isn't long enough?
Did Dean Martin just give me the finger? 1:21
@cogidubnus1953 Borge was Danish ;)
nothing great here just silly jokes for olde folkes
And who asked you exactly?
