Dude, your explanation on FM8 is legendary! in 10 minutes I have learned more about FM then in more then 20 years!🎉
these last few Stranjah tutorials are absolute fire - i grew up on late 90's DnB and have been looking for how its made for ages, this stuff is soooo good !
id like this twice if i could
Glad you enjoyed!
That track is niiiice! 🔥
Really appreciate the tutorials for those of us still using Massive.
Hey Stranjah,
I spent years trying to recreate the original Reece that Kevin Saunderson created years ago on my Casio CZ-3000 until I finally nailed it (I believe he used the 1000 or the 5000, there is conflicting information on this aspect from interviews I've read over the years as well as statements he himself has made in interviews claiming it was a CZ-5000 but then at times saying it was a CZ-1000), the thing everyone misses about recreating the original reece bass that he made that has been sampled ever since, is there is a tiny bit of pitch envelope at the beginning of the attack on the original (you can hear it in the original sample if you listen very very closely), I've talked with tons of people about it over the years that have been using it and trying to accurately reproduce it as well as other UA-camrs (Venus Theory, Etc), It's hard to pick out by ear unless you know what you're listening for (You can hear it clear as day on any Casio CZ synth when you set the patch up right, it was originally built from a factory patch called 'Jazz Organ' as a start off point, it has ring modulation 1+2 and as I said a little bit of pitch envelope, think about making a kick drum out of a pure Pulse wave (Square wave), and shaping the attack on it until you get that pitch envelope percussive 'thud'), just some interesting information I thought I'd share as I've seen many people come close to recreating it well over two decades now, but always miss those two steps, and the ring modulation aspect has to do with the Wave Folding feature of the CZ synth line because they do not have Filters onboard, they use phase distortion in a weird sort of method of wave folding to create a sort of primative FM / Filter effect on sounds, at some point I am going to make a video of how to recreate it on my own channel using the actual CZ-3000 hardware synth (The method will be able to be used on any of the CZ synths as well as the software plugins Arturia has released I imagine as well!), I've been meaning to for ages now and I never seem to get around to it, great video as always man, cheers.
😀 Very informative. Keep me posted on your video, I'd like to know more about it - drop me an email at stranjahdnb@gmail.com
@@STRANJAH Will do, I will drop you an email, keep making the dope vids son! Maximum respect!
Why the idolisation? It's just a stupid bass sound 😀
@@krz9000 A 'stupid bass' sound that helped shape an entire genre of music, that's kind of like saying the amen was a 'stupid breakbeat', I think you might have missed the point of this and many other channels on UA-cam about music production, not only is the original reece bass incredibly iconic (much like the amen break, as well), but a new generation as well as an older one enjoys it and I'd wager would probably like to know how it was made so they can use it in their own tracks, that's kind of the whole idea behind this channel, learning and passing on knowledge, if it's stupid to you, maybe you're in the wrong place my guy, or trolling unsuccessfully, either way, better luck next time, carry on. 👍🎶
Please upload that video
Rave Generator 2!!!!!!! Bombaaaaaaaaaaa
Love that tool!
Oh yes! Still gets rinsed 😂
Great to hear the old skool riddems with the new twist.. awesome video as per usual bruv!! Thank-you!
Fantastic tutorial, massive will always be a beast. Thank-you!
Love it - could you make a full speed garage track please (loved the earlier vid you did with the speed garage classics) good work!
SO DOPE!!! The Breakbeat with all that is SOOO SICK!!!!
What other classics sounds do you want me to show you how to make?
Oldschool garage bass like Double 99 Ripgroove would be good.
@@NJ-qd8jv skrillex Bass
Jungle Reese Bass :=
Some nice old school jungle pads, strings, riffs would be sick ! 👆🏼
@@NJ-qd8jv look at his speed garage classics video
Nice frequencies. always a pleasure
Love that whatah great beginner tutorial and I’ll be copying your tips thank you 🙏
This is a damn good tutorial dude. The shaper box tip was a huge take away
Another awesome tutorial from the ledge! I forgot how awesome Absynth is for pads atmospheres! It stills blows a lot of modern synths out of the water!
Delay Lama is the best classic synth
Easily best production channel out there
Awesome!
that sweet sound
i love this guy. Another cool tutorial!
Awesome, thank you!
Very helpful as a recap when you’ve taken a long break from gear.
Hi Stranjah and thanks for the good content !
About your reese sound do you have any suggestion for having similare waveshaping sound with the wavetable instrument included in ableton ?
Thanks again :)
I know I was getting the good stuff when man talked about the sub focus tutorial. That was the og reese tutorial! Comprehensive video...covers all the old skool bases! (no pun intended)
Ragga jungle from mid 90s would be nice
Donk en Reese would make a great duo name.
Awesome
I see I’m not the only one combing through the sub focus masterclass for massive patches 😂
Ah that shaky AF camera work from that Subfocus tutorial! 😂😂😂😂😂
Absynth is a creature of beauty.
More please 👌
NOISIA we’re fans of FM8👍
I like NI Massive, because the Knobs are without any 0...127 scales
Top stuff Stranjah :-)
Thank you!
geat tutorial as always :)
Thanks again!
Live a nice sublow reece bassline .
Great tutorial, it is unfortunate that those UI's of Massive, FM8 and absynth are ridiculously small on any resolution past 1080p
True maybe a good opportunity for them to add scaling for the new generation of monitors!
Yeah I have the same with NI plugins @Devyzed
ii have a Synth plugin called iris 2 by iZotope. Can u do a video on that maybe STRANJAH? it is complex !! BIG UPS
More videos about Native Instruments please
I’d like you to remake the reese inside serum as us old school folks have our own version of the sub focus reese bass in massive and it would be interesting to see how close you can get bud ….PS I enjoyed this clip thanks for posting 👍👍👍
Mutate function of absynth is SUCH an underrated feature. Unlimited unique pads or sometimes bass sounds
Thanks for the heads up!
nice tut mate but how do you add formant to the oscillator in serum?
Bend+ works similarly!
A thought i just had, when i think about "classic" i think about analogue, not vst synths, bc when they started making jungle and dnb back in the days, they simply didn't have all the digital tech we're used to using today. Maybe that's just a really narrow interpretation of the word "classic", but i thought i'd leave that here as food for thoughts, maybe :)
most underrated vsti classic of all time is one called Junox2 from reFX. it's discontinued now. I still think now, nothing has ever sounded as accidently gnarly as it.
I LOVED that one! I used it mainly for Goatrance but the basses were great.
When I first started producing and putting out tunes in the 90s (under the name RareForm) I did all my sounds with a Roland JX3P synth that I bought second hand. It was great for creating donks and reece bass lines etc... Check out 'Spinechilla' which was a track that Goldie championed for me back in the day. All the donks and womp bass sounds were coming straight out of the JX3P using an Amiga 1200 sending midi CC comands to switch between presets - ua-cam.com/video/O9yrBWydhHU/v-deo.html
Do I hear an MC 303 in the synth line? 😍. Still love mine
@@My_man_G_UK Yes mate, the main reece was from the MC303 and I used midi CC commands in Octamed to adjust the cutoff. I also used some of the cymbals and hi-hats from the MC303 to disguise the lo-fi break beats coming from the Amiga. I still have my MC303 but it doesn't work quite so well these days. My JX3P also lost all of it's presets after the internal battery went.
@@TheDeathBeatsOfficial awww man! That sucks. I remember some of those synths has the battery soldered in place too? 😞 Mate had same issue. Is there no way of putting presets back in after battery swap?
I've been lucky with my 303. For years it didn't work as well as when I first got it. Turned out the circuit board had cracks so soldered a load of wires to bridge it 🤣.
The joy's of toys
SICK TUNE!!!! That 90's sounding acid reese, and those amens!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
NICE COMBO, drums sounds great. I remember the MC303, my friend had it and I sampled all the bass sounds from it
Can you please do one with serum!!??
how about this... ua-cam.com/video/yXcAdVTjm2M/v-deo.html

Always excellent content!!
@STRANJAH Layering kick won't be a tutorial? I was waiting for this particular video (
It will be considered but you have to be patient, I have a number videos scheduled that I have to do first!
@@STRANJAH ok bro. tell me video on kick layering will it be this month?
Big up Alan. Do you think there's a market for modernised old skool riddims?
Of course! There’s been a resurgence of these sounds on labels such as Hoover Sound and Trax Haven to name a few
@@STRANJAH good to hear. We need to keep the foundations there.
Hell yeah there is ! Listen to recent releases by coco bryce or sully for example
Can uuuuu feeeeel iiit
Make a drum N bass pack for sylenth bro then send it for us... Please
I think you did that, I think could make something that slaps
Absynth has a great Reese preset called "DnB Junkie"
I used to use it all the time
Nice to know!
Great video, but... It seems that this video is sponsored by either Native Instruments or Plugin Boutique, but I couldn't notice a disclosure anywhere. As far as I know doing so without disclosure is against both UA-cam's term of service and even illegal in many countries.
Apologies, I added it, but seems it didn't save it. It's now there, thanks for the heads up.
Ok now hand over the Hoover mate.
Not like real TX donk/bamboo bass, but close, thanks.
