- Mini Gothic Altar
The Victorian Gothic Funeral Tableau continues...
In this build we'll create an Altar structure and embellish it with complex and glorious arcitechtural details. The piece will be distressed to evoke a mysterious air of Haunted Grandeur.
We'll also create Altar Furnishings: a deliciously distressed Altar Cloth, a Majestic Crucifix, a Chalice, and a Gothic Altarpiece in the form of a Triptych.
Finally, we'll make elaborately embellished carpets. ...then place all of these treasures on a dias to emphasize the Sacred nature of the scene.
That's quite a line-up! Let's get to work, shall we?

I recently discovered your existence, and have been binge-watching all videos on your channel over the last few nights. You make gorgeous stuff! Very inspirational! You should have ten times more subscribers. Well, you have at least one more now :-)
Fran!!! Whoa - what an incredibly generous Soul you are! Thank you so much. Looking forward to many more little adventures together, my friend. xoxo
Every time I watch one of your videos, I feel like I'm being invited in to your magical world. And your voice is pure ASMR. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and lovely art. 🤍
I love watching your videos. Please notify me if you make any more videos. I watch your videos over and over for inspiration. Thank you for all you do.
How did I miss this? Actually I think I remember the alter cloth. Its so good to have you back!
❤ it! So beautifully elegant catholic vampirish 🦇😇
Glad you like it, Margie! It was a total blast to build. 💀💗
I love seeing stuff without a cricut maker because few people have one.
You have so many amazing pieces love them all and love how easy you make it to follow along
I loved 99.999% of this video. (- 0.001% for 22:39-41)
So beautiful 😀
Just sending you a big fat thank you for all you share.
Well, dang - that's a wonderful message to wake up to this morning - Thank YOU, Helen! 💗
Was really fun to watch this come together. The end result is stunning too
Thanks for watching, girl. Assembling these minis is super satisfying! xoxo
WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! Okay, so I've fully regressed back to my former babbling self, I sure hope that once you have the tableau set and every element, of this series, is in place that you take pictures to share. I can't wait to see the full display..... Awesome!!!
Oh, Shirley...girl, this is so outta control! I am filled with anticipation and trepidation in equal measure by the looming challenge of bringing it ALL TOGETHER! Wish me luck + stamina to pull this off in time for Halloween, my darling!
BTW - you NEVER babble! 😉😍
Heather, you got this girlfriend, Nobody creates atmosphere quite like you, and the things you come up with to create is pure genius, and the materials you use and the techniques you share, I've never seen before. I've watched a lot of videos, and no one can touch you for creativity!
Heather, I can't say enough about how much I love your aesthetic and your generosity in sharing these wonderful techniques! I've been struggling for years to find a way to preserve and display my cherished personal relics, and finally, here it is. First up, a treasury for mementos of my trip to England for Richard III's reburial. Your altar and throne room are perfect! If you're ever interested in reaching out to groups, may I recommend the Richard III Society? They have English and American publications that are always looking for contributors.
Hello, aswasnon42! Wow! What an interesting life you lead...I'm fascinated by history, too. Not that I'm very learned, but, still, I appreciate the sweeping saga of our forebears! The Richard III Society sounds intriguing...I may have to poke around. Thank you for your kindness - it means SO much to me to think that all this nonsense is actually useful to someone! xoxo
Oh man.. I so love your work!!
That means a lot to me, my friend. Thank you. xoxo
❤️ stunning as usual ❤️
Donna Marie - you are a treasure....thank you so much for always leaving an encouraging message, my friend. Sending you positive engery, girl. 💗
Truly another work of art, love your work!
Hi Cindy! One day, I'd love to create truly exquisite miniatures, girl...but I have a LONG way to go, and many happy lessons to learn along the way...thank you for walking with me, my friend. xoxo
Love it ! The more dramatic the best !
It's Edwige! Hello, my friend. I'm so happy you like it, dear. xoxo
I love this.
Yay! I'm so glad. Thanks, Yvonne! xoxo
So, so, so, so COOL! You truly do amaze me woman!
I'm so stoked that you like it, FolkFaninMA! Woo hoo! xoxo
No words... gorgeous ❤️
Thank you - this one is near and dear to my heart. xoxo
I have come to love Thursdays because I know I will see your latest and greatest and I will be amazed all over again. Thank you so much for taking us along on your journey. Peace. xoxo
Hey, Shan Tilly...Thank YOU for being willing to ride the Weird Train with me, darlin'. 😘
I always learn so much from your videos. Thank you for sharing your talents so generously!
That makes me very happy to hear, Risa - thank you. It's the whole point - when I learn something new I can't wait to share it with y'all! 😍
What did UA-cam never recommend your videos? Bentley’sHouse brought me here. Love your style an$ so many terrific projects and ideas!
Hi Connie - nice to meet you! Ara is so generous - I just love her work. Thanks for the kind words, my friend. xoxo
Omg ,amazing 😍😍😍 😘😘😘
This excursion into Mini Gothic Goodness has me mesmerized by the possibilities, girl! So many wonderful things we can create! 😍
I am amazed and inspired! Thank you for sharing your work.
Thank YOU, @therettavad - it is my delight to share these processes with my friends. xoxo
Sooo beautiful! I hope there are more in this series! We are fortunate to learn these great techniques from you.
I seem to be in the grip of a Miniature Gothic Obsession, John...I don't see an end in sight. So many tantalizing objects to attempt! Thank you for being so kind, my friend.
Love it Heather!! You are so talented. Thanks for sharing, Donna
You are very kind to say so, Donna - thank you. But, it's my firm opinion that talent doesn't really enter into it...I'm curious, driven, experimental and always pursuing a vision - I'll bet that describes YOU, too, my friend. xoxo
You have made Thursdays exciting! Thanks for sharing. 😍😍
Nope - YOU'VE made Thursdays exciting, Angela! Thank you for your precious encouragement, girl. xoxo
Another Tranquil Thursday! I now clear my Thursday schedule to have a moments respite with your lovely tutorials! Your calm and soothing voice nearly lulls me into a deep state of meditation as I sip my favorite Chai tea. ♡
What a lovely vision, PossumLady8262! Now I'm gonna go brew a cup myself! xoxo
Rhoo démentiel ! !!
Wow😍😍😍
Merci, Sylvie! 💗😜💗
Thanks for the advice and the video. But I would buy one of those wood with gilded gesso Florentine triptychs, then sand the inside panels and paint with egg tempera. This way, I have a beautiful piece, created with techniques used in the Renaissance; and the paintings will glow brightly from the egg, lasting 500+ years.
My dear miss Heather, as always you've mesmerized me with y'alls splendid creations, let me tell ya! I never get tired of watch'in you girl! Loves & hugs my dear friend💖
Well, that is music to my ears, Ms. Laurie! Thank you for the encouragement - it is SO appreciated, girl. Loves n Hugs right back at you! xoxo
This work really amazed me!! Learn a lot from this tutorial. I love your voices!

Welcome, Shyuen Kim! It's a pleasure to meet you. It makes me happy that you learned something!
Thank you for subscribing. xoxo
Wow Heather...totally awesome and so many great techniques. Thanks so much 💜💜💜
We're building an ENCYCLOPEDIA of techniques, Roz! Together, we will populate the world with Mayhem! BwaaaaHaaaHaaa! xoxo
@@Thicketworks hehehe
Nicely orchestrated.
This was a blast. Yep. xoxo
you realy do make alot of beautiful stuff, true class.
Well, that is a very lovely thing to say, @Alrethian - thank you! xoxo
It is magnificent, you got that right!
Hey girl...this Gothic Vision is dominating EVERYTHING right now - and I'm not struggling much to fight it, either! Thank you for the encouragement, Anastasia 😘
I was in the hospital for 4 days for some pretty serious, life threatening issues but still watched, lol. Home now and recuperating and patiently waiting for next video🤗
Oh, no. I am so sorry to learn that you've been seriously ill, Anastasia. Sending you healing energy. May you recover at miraculous speed!
I'm knee deep in the next build - I'll see you Thursday - I hope you'll enjoy this one. 😘
A new amaying video! I had to watch complete , and I will be to late for work, but it was worth it :) TFS
Wilma!!! Naughty person! 😉😘 I hope you didn't get in trouble for being late, my friend! Thank you for risking it! xoxo
I learned a lot, i have an upcoming 1:12 ratio project and this tutorial gave me all my missing pieces. thank you so much! :D
I am so happy to know that you found this useful, @
Asaki Hagire ! Your project will be magnificent, my friend. xoxo
Simplemente hermoso! *--*
Gracias, mi Amiga! xoxo
Heather, you’ve outdone yourself! This is exquisite, your attention to detail is incredible, giving this masterpiece a very realistic look. I was tempted to hold my late hubby’s rosary beads while you were constructed but I held off until the end. GF, you are the best!! I love this and since I was up early because my Squeek was meowing for food at 5:50am, caught it within minutes of it being posted. Thanks, love!
Annie. ❤️🖤 Namastè 🙏
Hi Annie! Your Squeek sounds like a wonderful companion, girl. The bit about the Rosary Beads?! 😆💗 I hope you and Squeek have a marvelous day, my friend. xoxo 🐱
Your tutorials are the best from any source and you are so generous with your freebies always. I can clearly see and hear everything and I'm always appreciative. I can't say I'm religious but more spiritual but I have always had a fascination with Russian Icons and this reminds me of them. Thank you. :)
Dear Susan: wow! Thank you for your extraordinarily generous words...I would say that I am also of a spiritual, rather than religious nature...but I have a deep and abiding love and respect for the art and artisans that have embellished the places of worship around the world. Russian Icons are one of the most poignant and soulful expressions of the yearning for transcendence. Yes.
@@Thicketworks I love how we get to see so many fantastic Russian artists and crafters now since the days when Russia was closed to us. Almost everything I really like on Pinterest will be from a Russian doll maker or paimter or what have you. :) I sometimes feel we're in a new Renaisance (sp) of arts and crafts or is that just because we now have the internet to show it to us? It just seems like there are so many people making books, weaving, throwing pots you name it these days. I love it!
@@susanhamilton1822 I have to agree: we are luckiest generation ever - because we have access to ALL of it! I need 14 lifetimes (simultaneously!) just to VIEW all of the creativity, much less to actually MAKE all the things! xoxo
Just when I think your work just can not get any better, you continue to amaze me! All I can say is MAGNIFIQUE !!! Thank you for sharing, my friend! ❤️⛪️
It's Nancy! Hello, darling. This one was so interesting to design...my mind is swimming with ideas for a TRULY Baroque environment...sigh. xoxo
Heather Tracy What I enjoy most about your art, besides the obvious visual, is the emotions, and in this case, the long forgotten memories it evokes. Brings me back to my parochial school days. High mass, incense laden, being recited in Latin! Does that date me? Lol
Beautifully exquisite I love it
Cindy! Yay! This was great fun. I only wish I had made the Altar more elaborate...next time! xoxo
Well it looked like perfection to me xoxox
You did it again, Heather,. Now all we need are some wafers & holy water , a priest, & his confession box. lol
Ooooohhhh! I would LOVE to build a Confessional, Maria! You are very naughty to give me ideas! 💗😍😆
loved the video. only two criticisms. one. the runner crossing under the alter from side to side should have been cut in half and one side reversed so it showed more uniformity. so looking from either side the pattern would be coming towards you, acanthus leaves splaying away. and again, the symmetry. two. the tryptic would have been placed center with the cross directly in front. the cup or chalice off to the right to be in easy reach. in gothic times any piece of religious art and examples of fine craftsmanship, would have taken so many long hours to create. artists and artisans coming from all over the known world. suck artworks were held in such high value, they were always displayed centrally in prominence. hence the symmetry evident in all gothic art and architecture. hell you made a tryptic for Christlike. and this being christianity, the cup with wine would always be off tho the side only being moved to the center during the receiving of the sacriment. only to be locked in a box right after. hm, christians and their vices.
New subscriber today. I've seen your work before somewhere (maybe The Graphics Fairy?) & I tried to find you once before unsuccessfully. Today I noticed your name in the comments following Ara at Bentley Minis & found your channel. OMG! It was SO worth waiting for! You are one talented lady, I look forward to watching your channel grow.
Hi Joanne! It's a pleasure to meet you. Oh, that same sort of thing has happened to me so many times: I stumble across an artist that intrigues me, then I 'lose' them, only to cross paths later. Bentley House / Ara are so inspiring - and how cool that we both found ourselves there! Yay! Thank you for subscribing - I'm very happy that you're here. xoxo
Another wonderful video! Thank you. Do you have any plans to show us how to create those wonderful mini flower arrangements that are shown on the altar at the end of the video? If not a tutorial, perhaps a supply list and source?
Thank you for asking, Georganne! 😘
There's a full tutorial covering the floral arrangements (with all supplies listed) right here: ua-cam.com/video/cPRbPlnpQ8g/v-deo.html
Yea! Thank you!!
Wow! Slightly sinister, please
You control the mood, girl! (and I agree!) xoxo
Oh dear lord I've died and gone to Art Heaven I love this lady
It makes me super happy to connect with creatives who appreciate working with these themes, Kim. xoxo
This is so awesome too, just like our class. The class was great and this is another added feature to add to the cigar box theatre. Question, can you link me how to make the molds, I was looking, think your UA-cam page changed. Thank you.
Hi Kelly! Thank you so much for the beautiful support on FB, my friend. 😍
The castings were created as part of the Mini Altar build - you can find it here: ua-cam.com/video/lQ02HSWXR2c/v-deo.html
what music is played in background?
This is so beautiful! I love that you use GPP stamps; I'm a huge Michelle Ward fan, and was lucky enough to take a couple of classes with her. We've been blog-friends for years! Also, with your current focus on miniatures, you might be interested to see (if you haven't already) what people are doing for tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons. There's a particular channel I follow, called Black Magic Craft, that covers a lot of techniques and various builds. That's actually where I first found out about Readi-Board being so useful and how to work with foam. You might like some of his tricks and tips :)
Hi PocketSize!
I'm pleased that you like it, my friend. Michelle Ward is one of my heroes, for sure. I'm totally jealous that you've had a chance to take her classes! Wow!
I first discovered the possibilities inherent in Foam Core Board / XPS several years ago from the work of David Neat - now THERE'S a guy who knows his stuff. Beyond meticulous when it comes to explaining the intricacies of technique. Check him out - his blog is davidneat.wordpress.com/
And I watch a ridiculous number of TableTop Gaming Creators / DM's. I like Jeremy. Thanks! xoxo
She's the best -- and also how I discovered Seth Apter! My other hero!
Oh wow, his work is fabulous!!!!
I should have known ;) Isn't Jeremy great? I haven't watched much from others yet, but am dipping my toes in on DM Scotty's channel. So much inspiration is out there! I'm always eagerly anticipating your next videos :)
Im sorry to interfere here, but l could not get in touch Michelle wards shop...l would Love to have that rubbet stamp! Can You help in some way?????
Hi Maria!
You're not interfering, my friend! You are always welcome to ask questions!
Can you tell me specifically what happened when you tried to reach the shop? I notice that https is not enabled on Michelle's site...I wonder if your browser is preventing you from entering because of that?
You might want to try this link, instead: www.greenpepperpress.com/cgi-bin/itsmy/go.exe?page=6&domain=1&webdir=greenpepperpress

@@Thicketworks l Will...thank you
What's to say!! Your resin pieces were amazing. Loved the mica powder touch. I am going to have to go thru your videos to catch up again. ( refresh). How long does it take for you to design the project and make the video?? Your videos are so smooth and concise. They are so easy to follow and your explanations, flawless. I swear just looking at the finished project I actually felt I was back in church!! Scary, and just when you least expect it, the Monks at the end was fantastic. If anything it broke *the in the church feeling,* LOL
Hi Lois! I adore the rich look you get from Cold Casting with metallic powders, girl. So nuanced.
Thank you for the positive feedback - It doesn't come naturally to me to be concise, so it's very encouraging to hear that my hard work is paying off, my friend!
That 'back in church feeling'?!😆
To answer your question: I usually devote one day to brainstorming / design - making notes, researching techniques, engineering, etc.
A build usually takes 2 days - (drying time)
Editing the footage / still shots - another day
Doing all the fussy administrative stuff - another day.
In short, publishing one tutorial per week keeps me busy for the full 7 days! 😉 xoxo
WOW, AND TOP OF ALL THAT YOU RESPOND TO THE COMMENTS. YOU GO, GIRL XO
