This was probably the toughest category in which to pick a winner that year. How do you choose between E.T., Das Boot, Gandhi, and Tootsie, all of which turned out great due in large part to brilliant editing? I'd probably vote for E.T., but it's a matter of splitting hairs.
Matthau and Pryor seem desperately uncomfortable together and apart, and probably couldn't shake off the knowledge that their opening musical number bombed. It's no wonder neither of them hosted again, and I don't think Pryor ever made another appearance.
