I no longer have confidence in our political system here in the US. I don’t say that lightly. I pay attention.
I have been studying US history. US states have been in-fighting for the longest time, to the point of a civil war.

With all due respect, the need for a strong middle has always existed, this doesn’t answer why this particular election (and its primaries) is the most important.

I believe he's referencing the fact that the American world order is under significant threat and the only way to stave it off is to not be so caught up with infighting and instead invest in the next generations and reclaim our position geopolitically. It's only unfortunate that it's likely already to late without extreme change.

How could someone so smart be so blind? He is asking for something impossible. Bipartisanship? Never. It's one side take all. No split pot.
He's not wrong to feel that a bipartisan set up could be the best for the country. Just because the system is broken doesn't make him blind for admitting it. The system just needs to be brought back to balance.
Vote for candidates from your own party who can and will work with the reasonable people on the other side. And yes reasonable people exist on both sides.
