Kone Elevator Malfunctions on Camera!

- (July 2022) This is a Kone elevator in a small apartment building that had a fairly major malfunction. I'm not totally sure what happened, but it suddenly stopped, and then eventually reset to the bottom floor. Besides it breaking for a second, this elevator is in rather good condition. It was installed in 2016.

Looks like some sort of rare fault that caused the controller to signal an emergency stop. You were very lucky to encounter that, not only as you were on the elevator, but to even capture it on video as well. Still interesting to experience, and it's great that the elevator reset itself instead of shutting down, trapping you inside to call for help... As KONE & Schindler elevators are notorious for.
Nice Elevator. I think the Elevator made a Safety Break
That’s what I think too.
Keep
Ordering
New
Elevators
Lol
I wonder if it maybe sped up too quickly causing the governor to trigger the safety break
It also sounded like the brake didn't set until you were out of the car at the end.
That's why I don't film in apartment buildings because if I were to get stuck. Then I wouldn't get in trouble by residents in the apartment building.
I really hope you or the building staff in charge called Kone to report this.
The behavior (sudden stop, then returning to the lowest floor) has me thinking that something went wrong that caused it to be unsure of its position. Unfortunately I don't have any real way to figure out what that was without being able to see what the controller was displaying. This is what many elevators are designed to do in such a case - stopping is pretty much always safe, or at least more so than just continuing blindly at full speed while unsure of the position.
Since I know someone will ask - no, I don't think it clipped a door lock. At least I didn't hear it do that.
You were brave at trying again.
makes me wonder if the coding for the selector tape might have flipped a bit in the controller causing it to go into known home
The same thing happend at St. Anthonys in Alton IL A Kone Elevator Malfunctioned when the power went out and then the elevator dropped but good thing they jumped out before it dropped
The power going out is different from this. It just randomly stopped.
Oof that was a rough stop I would’ve freaked out riding this lol.
Where is this taken at?
A private building.
They need to fix the elevator
Oh my goodness
Ah the typical moments of a ''tin can'' install...lmao. Kone may be a cool brand, but they always got something going on
Normally these run fine. This one didn’t seem to be very worn out either.
this video is a good example of why modern elevators are safer than old ones though. they stop themselves and reset themselves before something worse happens. I've been on a Gen2 at my college that did this completely out of the blue as the doors were opening
@@alternatehobbies This is a very good point. While modern elevators may have less character or are more flimsy, they are indeed safer, even if you don't think so...
I "accidentally" managed to make the doors open by themselves while the car was moving, which resulted in a safety brake. This happened on a 2004 OTIS Elevonic 411, and while the safety brake did its job, there should not be any excuse as to how I was able to make the doors open... I literally pressed Door Open.
@@EvergreenElevators yikes, that is absolutely not supposed to happen 💀
@@stlelevators Yeah it appears to be a newer install due to the call station
My guess is a safety break issue, but otherwise, that is nice
a safety *brake* is the brake that stops the elevator when something trips the safety sensor, this can happen to any elevator, and is why modern elevators are so safe. if anything happens, they just stop and reset themselves, or put themselves out of service, before something worse happens
@ I know what it’s for.
Where is this building

Whats wrong with this elevator
Not sure. It seems like the safety circuit was broken causing it to stop.
That phone button looks odd
Typical...
Kone elevator door close works elevator doesn’t work
Ok
Nice elevator!
That's weird how it stopped out of nowhere!
Maybe a ghost/spirit somehow stopped it!
Lol I'm joking!
Probably the safety circuit breaking open for a second.
Ok
Yeah and I was joking of when I said ghost/spirit somehow stopped it lol
