I love rainy days too, Jael. We’ve been having an unusually rainy January where I am in the countryside in Jamaica too. I think it’s because the Northern Hemisphere is currently experiencing the effects of El Niño. Congratulations on making the papers! Not surprised, you’re truly an inspiration as a woman thriving in a traditionally male-dominated sector. As someone who shares your story of leaving corporate and city life for village life and farming, you’re an inspiration to me! Just love your videos!

Hi Jael, congrats on your recognition. It’s so well deserved. I live in TX in zone 10. The zones define the areas as to their ability to withstand cold. So it’s advised to only grow plants that are able to withstand that temperature. I can’t grow plants that need a cool/ cold environment but I can grow plants that are relatively heat tolerant. However we have cold spells, I end up having to take plants in probably twice for the winter on average. This week we expecting icy temperatures, so everything that can be moved will come inside the house/ put on the closed patio.
Your breakfast is so tempting. You can also add milk to the egg.
Looking forward to your next video. Hope you had a great day!

I was born on stormy, rainy day. I am instinctively drawn toward bodies of water and I like to walk/play in the rain after which I take a warm shower or bath; a warm drink, in front of a fire with a good book about nature. Nothing beats a rainy day--I find it very cleansing.

1:48 In my youth, teenage years and young adult years. I loved to be out in the rain. My prime adult years and now 59 I enjoy listening to the rain. That thunders, the lightning its the most beautiful. Ambience and I set the stage every time with the fire pit,and adult coloring books. but Earlier on I used candles and a good book. So nothing really changed. I enjoyed it the same , As far back as I can remember, I've always loved the rain and everything that comes with it!😊

In the US some states are colder, so when you buy a packet of seeds, it gives a picture of the US. It is divided into zones which tells you the best time to plant the seeds. If you plant too early frost will kill them.

Hi Jael - great video as always.
I have shared with several friends including Americans and asked them to subscribe. This reminds me of my childhood in ushago (the green, fresh air, fruits and veggies kila siku). I came to the States for college after form six in 1982 and now looking at retirement plans back home. I inherited ancestral land but not interested settling in my ushago, so I need to purchase land somewhere else in Kenya so that I can build a cute farm house like yours. I want to be in the countryside in some safe place (may be an hour or less from a shopping center). I live in a suburb here in the midwest, United States. We have lots of snow in winter but spring, summer and fall are fantastic. Our house is on slightly less than a half acre plot and so we have set up a small vegetable garden in the backyard. We have wild deer, squirrels, raccoons, and wild rabbits in the area, so I constructed a deer fence to keep the animals out of the garden (imagine wild deer in the city - its like waking up every morning and seeing deer in your back yard as you eat breakfast-its actually pretty cool if you love nature). We have many plants and flowers, including bamboo, okra (which we also harvest as food at the end of the summer), roses, xmas trees (emerald green arborvitae and many decorative flowers and perennial shrubs).
Believe it or not, we havent been to the store to buy vegetables, including tomatoes, and onions for over 2 years. We freeze the surplus veggies from our garden, harvest and store tomato seeds, and only shop at a large Indian grocery store, known as Patel brothers, when we need grains, chapati and mandazi unga, naan, bhatura, dry grains like lentils, beans, rice etc. We rarely shop at American stores (they have too many toxic preservatives in their food and the prices are high). We dont buy paper towels and use cloth napkins (many paper products are wasteful, expensive and bad for the environment, and recycling is not very effective). We dont eat beef but occasionally have organic chicken and fish. We dont drink homogenized milk and switched to soy and almond milk. One can actually get healthier and save a good amount of money by changing lifestyle, diet, getting rid of the cable box in favor of streaming, and relying more on solar. I see many Kenyans eating fast food and claiming burgers and pizza is good food. They dont realize how expensive and toxic these fast foods are, but sometimes people think they have arrived when they can afford these toxic western foods.
Sorry for the long post but your videos inspire me so much!!!!!

Here in the US we have Zone meaning like summer. Winter Spring and fall is our seasons, certain vegetables and fruits grow best during each season certain parts of the US the weather varies. More than other parts, That’s why we have zones. Zone make us aware of what to plant and when in our Pacific zone,…a difference between temperature in certain zones the condition of the soil and weather conditions as to what grows best certain soil or certain zones are different at certain times of the year we don’t grow certain items in certain zones because it doesn’t grow well may not develop. Well that’s the best way I know how to explain it.

    What Do Hardiness Zones Mean?
The USDA plant hardiness map is created and updated every few years by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It divides North America into eleven zones by minimum average annual temperatures. The lower the number is, the lower the temperatures in that zone.
Each zone represents ten degrees of temperature difference. Each zone is also divided into “a” and “b” segments. These represent five degrees of temperature difference. For example, zone 4 represents minimum temperatures between -30 to -20 degrees F. (-34 to -29 C.). The a and b subdivisions represent -30 to -25 degrees F. (-34 to -32 C.) and -25 to -20 degrees F. (-32 to -29 C.).
Hardiness refers to how well a plant will survive cold temperatures. Where the USDA zones fall short; however, is that they don’t account for other factors. These include freeze dates, freeze-thaw cycles, the effects of snow cover, precipitation, and elevation

There are zones even in Kenya. Just ask your agriculture extension officers in Kenya. Every and any large country has zones. Zones are determined largely by the rain pattern. January and February are the wettest months in Zambia. That bread would taste far better with brown bread!
