The double tap vudo is actually really cool for how it works. Basically a lot of accelerometers have this feature built in, where if it detects a tap it sends an interrupt back to the controller that reads it's data and tells it that a tap has occurred. If you set your controller to look for something such as a double tap, then you can do something anytime you see that pattern. I have used this feature in a few designs, its pretty cool, and intuitive for most users.
Virtual desktop is on another level, going from oculus link/alvr to vr desktop is mind blowing, it's like going from 1080p to 4k, I've been playing skyrim and it's honestly mindblowing how crisp and sharp it is. I was actually a bit dissapointed with the quest 2 at first because i bought it to replace my CV1, but my old CV1 looked sharper with supersampling, now I couldn't be happier.
Next level of coolness and mindblowingness. You can play PC quality VR games, wirelessly to your quest 2, WITHOUT owning any pc at all. How you may ask??? SHADOW PC gaming. As a lot of reddit people, I can attest that this completely works and it completely blows my mind. Thinking that a virtual computer is streaming a virtual desktop application that then gets broadcast to my wireless headset which communicates with my wireless controllers (even HOTAS peripherals for games like squadrons) to have a fantastic and 100% playable experience.... is basically magic in my opinion. I think that a video from you about this would be awesome since it would reach a big audience!
My quest 2 should be here today, can't wait to see how much of an upgrade it is from the quest 1. Still waiting on the elite strap + battery though for the best experience though imo

2:12 I think they did that because if you were playing without the controllers in a hand tracking game you would need a simple way to do it without a controller so they came up with that. I think it was a good idea

The Oculus says tap 2 times for pass-through, but honestly, tapping it 3 times rather quickly is far more consistent for going into and leaving pass-through

I tried out the 4-click to quit shortcut last night and found not only does it get you quickly back to the Home screen, but you don't actually quit the app you were in. So when you open it again, you'll be brought back to where you left off. Really cool!

I have never had an OLED device and find the black levels just fine. Sometimes the display fells really bright though! I fell it weird that there is no brightness slider. I will definitely sideload the settings app.
Ok so you can sideload discord and Spotify which is cool but can you use those while playing a game? Could you be in a discord call with someone while playing together or could you play music while in a game?
You can use voice commands without opening the Oculus menu. Just press the Oculus button twice. But you have to turn the shortcut on under voice commands. You can use this in apps as well.
I didn't know that because Voice Commands is actually not available for me at all :( It seems Oculus has opened it up to America only. But thank you for letting others know :D

I didnt know the four oculus button presses was a feature, whenever a game froze up, I just spammed the oculus button because I discovered it when I was trying to open the menu to close an app, but it wouldn't open and I kept pressing it and suddenly it just sent me back to the home, so I thought it was overwhelming the app and it just closed out. Good to know it was intentional and I wasn't stressing out the headset for no reason
Also this is kinda useful if you have like iPads or computers with the same charger well I just kinda told you you can charge your headset with any charger that fits my moms computer has a really big charger that fits in my headset and it goes so much faster then the tiny thing
The tap the side of the headset thing worked on quest 1 also. My friend swore by it, but it never worked right to me. Only ever triggered when I wasn't tapping it. My friend said it works perfectly for him though.

Hey I noticed with passthrough that if you double tap with any other finger than my index finger, it doesn't work, but then automatically works while using my pointer finger ... Hope that helps
What if you dont have a pc. Do you still need it to run sidequest? Can I take my quest 2 to a friends download the stuff then never need the PC again? Please help. I'm new to this
The quest 2 runs android and therefore control of the mic is locked out unless you are using it specifically what it was meant to be used for. A ModMic is an accessory that I have a few videos on showing exactly how to use it with vr.
OK I had to triple check this video. I tried to make straps out of the controllers and I started having flashbacks from junior high bc I could barely get two fingers in up to the first knuckle How the hell are your hands fitting in that 😂

Is there a setting to turn of the face proximity sensor so it doesn’t go into power saving mode when you take the headset off? I used to own the Oculus Go and I’m sure there used to be a setting for this, but I can’t see a setting for the quest 2. This is a very annoying problem when teaching and showing other people things in vr. I don’t just want to stick a bit of blue tac on the sensor before anyone suggest it.. There should be a setting for this!

You Can use the old from the quest 1 charger on your Quest 2 So your not stuck with a small Charger
For passthru, also tapping one side quickly followed by the other works as well.

Oculus wrist strap as a hand grip - too tiny for me, but add an elastic hair tie and it’s suddenly super comfy.
The grips is such a cool idea gonna try that next time I'm on the headset
Also if u go to settings and then expimental u can use bluetooth
Also, the amvr grips for the q1 fits the q2 perfectly

You can use hand controls without being in Steam VR btw. It’s in developer options.

I know it doesn't record your mic, but the oculus website has a casting page if you can't connect to the Oculus app on pc (like myself)
Passthrough works on Quest one as well, far as I know it has for a while and the double tap works too.
Hey I noticed with passthrough that if you double tap with any other finger than my index finger, it doesn't work, but then automatically works while using my pointer finger ... Hope that helps
What if you dont have a pc. Do you still need it to run sidequest? Can I take my quest 2 to a friends download the stuff then never need the PC again? Please help. I'm new to this
also i dont know what a mod mic is or have one (doe the quest 2 not have a mic? why cant i use that)
The quest 2 runs android and therefore control of the mic is locked out unless you are using it specifically what it was meant to be used for. A ModMic is an accessory that I have a few videos on showing exactly how to use it with vr.
AMVR grips for the Rift S/Quest 1 fit the Touch v3 (I think they're v3 at this point?) controllers so most other ones should fit as well.

Is there a setting to turn of the face proximity sensor so it doesn’t go into power saving mode when you take the headset off? I used to own the Oculus Go and I’m sure there used to be a setting for this, but I can’t see a setting for the quest 2. This is a very annoying problem when teaching and showing other people things in vr. I don’t just want to stick a bit of blue tac on the sensor before anyone suggest it.. There should be a setting for this!
