    Nice video, Craig!
I was hoping that one of the archived photos would have shown my relatives who were officers at the time. Sadly, they were not.

Remember it well. A friend's husband had just purchased a shoe store earlier that year from his boss. It was destroyed during the riot. He was able to repair and come back.

In 1952 I attended religious classes after school at the synagogue at Broad and Columbia. After class I would wait for my father on the corner of 15th and Columbia to pick me up on his way home. The neighborhood was Black then, but there was no sense of discomfort, never mind danger, even in the winter when it was dark by 5 o’clock.

It is wrong to stereotype a person simply because of their race or ethnicity. But sometimes stereotypes are caused by the actions of a great many people within a group, and they indeed might possess an element of truth.

You’re right, police officers really do just love beating people. Especially their wives!

Hard to believe in today’s world where everybody has a smartphone in their pocket to capture video. Back then the local news channels would have to dispatch a crew with 16mm film cameras. Most of the still photos were taken by Inquirer and Bulletin newspaper photographers.

@@craigsped So I am guessing the local news video didnt start until the 70's

@@sollyparker3947 There were hand held movie cameras that used film back then. Possibly over the years the film was destroyed or deteriorated.
