Both amazing - guys like Les and Chet were real innovators - and guys like Tommy took what they did and continued to add to the skills. Amazing talents
I love this so much, it must have been an absolute joy to have witnessed this set. How anyone can not just adore Tommy is beyond me. He is a treasure ❤️😍
Tommy Emmanuel is like the best of Chet Atkins and Les Paul on steroids. But, back in his prime, Les could have easily matched Tommy on the leads. And Les was the first to do it.
What a special moment this was, you can see the joy of music shared... this is sooo much fun to watch... nevermind how jealous I am of those people in the audience.
From start to finish: mutual reverence and fun. Les may have only one finger left, but he makes up for it all with his wit and his ability to be who he is and to do what he does. This moment is two lifetimes in the making. The best, by far, of all of the Les Paul Iridium videos.
Ha ha Tommy and Les Paul was cooking but then the pianist just thought, "enough! and proceded to channel his inner Art Tatum and left them in the dust.. Seriously. Wonderful jam and caravan is such a fat song. Music history right there!
Icons, playing "Caravan." It's amazing how Tommy limits himself to Lester's musical vocabulary, takes it to the next level right in front of him, and never disrespects him in any way, only admires and venerates him. Great music, coupled with great entertainment: Usually it's one or the other, rarely it's (as it is here) both.
Beautifully put. The number of people commenting who just want to drag Tommy down. It's a bit sad. He's wonderful and his interaction here with this legend is so beautiful.
Tommy is a very polite guy. He has to be - because otherwise nobody would share one stage with him. His technical skills and musicianship is so far away from any other guitar player nowadays - wow ...
Frank Philpott i used to see them in various dives around Sydney for free with about 20 ppl in the audience.. early 80s... they were phenomenal back then, probably already had 25 years of touring under their belts
Tommy ss easily the worlds greatest acoustic guitarist. Les was great in his early days as a player etc but did he actually play anything on stage in his latter days?
Les was not just a guitarist but an inventor. What he did with the early development of multitrack recording puts him in the category of pioneering sound engineer. Les Paul and Mary Ford - look up those duets - still amazing!
I have no idea why I punish myself watching these "Les Paul and" vids. I mean, cmon, they suck. It's people outplaying Les in his 90s just because hey, it's LES PAUL and boy wouldn't it be cool to play with HIM. nope. It's just kind of sad. I mean, Tommy is a great guitarist and to hear him playing with ease and precision and speed and poor Les made to look like he has one note left in him.... all these vids I just need to not watch and remind myself why. I'm glad Les played till he croaked but I can't watch these.

Tommy is an absolute joy to listen to and watch and the best I have ever seen or heard...! The guy is unreal...!
It's nice how people like Tommy Emmanuel and others show respect to a man who has had such a deep and lasting influence on guitar music.
Lester said probably more than once, "he waits until I'm 90 to show up !"😂

@@andrewc9719 a blend of both indeed, on steroids🤣
Tommy is such a gentleman jamming with one of the all-time greats of the guitar-playing world.
Nothing better than a show with lots of laughs and smiles in it. Heres my prescription for the blues if you have em.

Both having great fun, and everyone else too.

Tommy is class. So proud to know the guy and he has been by guest in rural Suffolk.

Ha ha Tommy and Les Paul was cooking but then the pianist just thought, "enough! and proceded to channel his inner Art Tatum and left them in the dust.. Seriously. Wonderful jam and caravan is such a fat song. Music history right there!
What a group! Tommy, Les are great here,..but I could only take notice of that georgous bass player!!..
Icons, playing "Caravan."

The musical and human perceptiveness of this comment is perfect. So many levels of perfection in this vid.
You are most kind.

The bird...classic les
Thanks Chris.
There's only 2 things Tommy does to guitarists. 1. You will give up. or 2. You will be so inspired! and keep on practising.
two very funny and very talented men
Damn this is an awesome jam
♥️
Never better!
Amazing.
Love the short passage @01:18

That silly man is dangerous with a guitar in his hands.
Agree 100% and Les & Chet knew that... Amazing player..!

He's good.... but I'm better!
Lester era uma graça ! kkk
I remember when you could see Tommy and Phil Emmanuel at Ballina RSL for about ten bucks.
Frank Philpott i used to see them in various dives around Sydney for free with about 20 ppl in the audience.. early 80s... they were phenomenal back then, probably already had 25 years of touring under their belts
i second that, fond memories of phil at bangalo pub. about 50 of us.
WOW! I knew Tommy was a finger picking maestro but didn't know he could do the Django/ Les Paul thing as well.
Always wanted to see Clapton sit in with Les.
Tommy is so good ,I think he sometimes get bored and clowns around in his concerts .
The Les Paul birdie, hahahahaha

TOMMY!!!!
Great ivory tickling, too.
It would be nice to have some sound with this video . . .
Fellow Australian Nicki Parrot on bass.

Hes in his 90s here dude. If you can wipe your ass at that age you are doing something great.
Despite arthritis and a medically-fused right elbow, he was pretty active to the end

Cheeky boy in front of the master !
That's a Townes Van Zandt quote!
is that John Colliani on piano?
Fuckin epic
Watch the base she s perfect.also.
She is the best Joseph , she s also a great singer, greetz Kees
So Django.
and the name of the tune is...? I'm pretty sure it is one that Django did on guitar but I can't identify it.
Caravan.
les has always hated it when he gets showed up...even 50 years ago.
Hi folks...what is the name of this piece? Thanks :)
Caravan
Les in his prime would have blown Tommy away. And Les did it all first.
I wonder how Tommy's guitar was worn on the face so far back? Is it just a super "played " guitar?
All of you pedal snobs... please note the pedal board in front of Les full of BOSS pedals.
