Having discovered this channel thanks to the Chainsaw Man Anime hype, the top's choices wasn't much of a surprise but they surely satisfied.
The conversations were really interesting, and the group specific history with recent mangas, proposed an engaging alternative to the usual top 3 Shonen's,
always thought to be imperative on every ranking.
I can only be happy that the channel is succeeding, and all of the constant dedication you have all shown is paying off, as it should.

I checked out Blood on the tracks since Mehgan mentioned it and I have to say, it is one of the scariest things I’ve read so far in manga and you guys have to do an episode on it, it’s sooo good and would like to hear you guys discuss it! :)

I read trough the aviable chapters today and while I like it alot, there is a bit too much teenage bs for me in it.
The last arc had a real strong emotional finisher, but I struggle to find a lot of meaning behind the madness.
That said, Turbo Kitty is such a fun character, I love her.

My top five is: Berserk, 20th Century Boys, Dorohedoro, Jagaaaaaan, and Slam Dunk. All the other series I do love more for different reasons but Slam Dunk had the largest effective on my life. I hate team sports but I love Slam Dunk so much that the final game made me cry for one (for a few seconds), I don’t cry wish I could (same as Josh), and since I finished it I’m a massive real life basketball fan. I basically spend all my down time watching manga podcasts and basketball now haha

I'm reading dandadan thanks to ya'lls and its amazing. I read some of chainsawman too but in light of the anime I stopped around the first major death.
my ranking is like this, it can be deemed my bias too. I have the standard ranking of the;

the numerical ranking can be upset in the rankings over time with titles moving up/down.
However I have a separate niche or a 'throne' on which Berserk resides. This niche is above 1 and its never to be dethroned. as an ageing struggler I formulated my ranking like this.
Top 5 for me has gotta be Monster, Golden Kamuy, One Punch Man, Ping Pong, and Akira. At least what I’ve read. Still stuff like Berserk, One Piece, and Jojo’s I’m reading through atm.

I think Cody has a lot of pent up nerd rage inside. So he might unleash his beast of darkness and be victorious.
But then again, I believe that Mehgan's Bangs are the source or her power. Sort of like Sampson. She might win this.
Josh kind of looks like Ryan Gosling though. So he might be capable of stomping people's heads like that elevator scene in Drive. I would need to see him in the Scorpion jacket though.

I sold almost all my mangas I collected over 14 years (lots of Naruto, Bleach, D. Grayman,...). The ones that stuck with me and I still own are: Blame!, Blade of the Immortal and Vagabond (the unreleased final chapter is incredible). I did stop reading mangas for 7 years. What brought me back was Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw man.
What did they review so far ??
Putting Chainsaw Man above Berserk is wild to me. I mean... Meghan... bro... I with was you for the whole list until we reached that number 2 spot. Maybe I'm being too objective but in my mind I compare the story, the art, the characters, the themes etc one at a time and in doing so with Chainsaw Man and Berserk the latter wins every category for me.
If I had a list of top 5 I'm not even sure if Chainsaw man would make the top 5 despite the fact I do really like it, am hyped for the anime and am waiting for the manga to return. It's a very fun manga but it doesn't stand out to me in any particular category like, it's a jack of all trades but master of none.
It was VERY hard for me to choose between the two. Chainsaw man has more of a emotional connection with me like I explained so it had to go on my #1 currently. That being said I still love Berserk but it just didn’t make my #1 spot… this time around.. 👀 -Mehgan ✨
You are mostly right, but you need to understand that Berserk is diffrent kind of manga compared to chainsaw man, so naturally it isnt everyones favourite.
@@arthua6663 Absolutely and normally I wouldn't say anything because people like what people like. In this one situation however, when both Chainsaw Man and Berserk were both manga's she obviously does like and were essentially tied for a number 1 spot out of all the manga she has read, at that point, Chainsaw Man winning out threw me through a loop. I honestly did not see that coming and my reaction was mostly tongue in cheek.
I want to be clear my comment was not intended to be some kind of elitism as neither of those manga are my number one either! Mine is Dragonball which itself would lose against Berserk by my own standard (and yet it beats it due to my emotional attachment and nostalgia for Dragonball), so I totally get it.
@@BitchesLoveGoodra maybe it because she still on conviction( personally I think it's the worst arc in all berserk) there are on many chapter left.

With Berserk being wayyyy ahead. Insane that it wasn't on Cody's list. Now that you've read the conviction arc, he hopefully has found the character he can see himself in, in Nina.
Gantz is pretty great though in a sort of immature action movie way, I'd recommend Inuyashika from the same mangaka for Cody.

The reason I gave my top ten is because I’m very indecisive and my 2-10 could be moved anywhere and I wouldn’t mind but One Piece is clearly my number one and because I liked it so much it made me start reading manga buy merch and interact quite a lot with the community. I also caught up to the anime in a month and a half so about 930 episodes when I caught up.

I really understand Mehgan on Tokyo revengers with the anime VS Manga .. i read the last chapter ( 222) just today and i was a bit disappointed with what they did with draken.

wait what? The Tokyo Revengers anime isn't even that bad! Of course I'm watching the uncensored version but even so It's great, I feel like It's a contender for anime of the year honestly.
I'm sure the uncensored version is great, but unfortunately we watched the censored version which because of its editing made the pacing of the show feel disrupted. We definitely gotta check out the uncensored version though because I'm sure it fixes a lot of the pacing issues and because the story itself is great!

I think Josh hit the nail on the head with Berserk and Guts specifically; Guts is the single most human character I’ve ever experienced in any piece of fictional media.

I disagree, regarding the relatability of Guts/Berserk;
One of the fundamental aspects of the story, that makes it stand out amongst its peers, is precisely because of how relatable the themes of the story are.
Sure, very few among us have had our loved ones raped by a demon overlord, before our very eyes - but again, it's the underlying themes that drag us in.
Just to name a few;
- How many people have felt abandoned at birth, with no one to call their parent, like Guts?
- How many people have had horrible parental figures, like Gambino?
- How many children are forced into adulthood, by a cruel start to life, like a young Guts was?
- How many people have felt disgusted by themselves and their actions, as Guts did, when he killed a child?
- How many Griffiths roam the world, who have sacrificed everything they held dear; including their own humanity, just to realize their ambitions?
- Who doesn't feel the beckoning of their inner Beast of Darkness from time to time?
- How many people lose sight of what really matters, while blindly chasing vengeance, or other similar carnal desires?
- Who doesn't struggle against their lot in life - against their fate?
...even the people who lose everything they love and everything they have, through some life altering event, that leaves them scarred and crippled, physically and emotionally...!
Berserk depicts the STRUGGLES of life, and what a struggler must do, and become, in order to deny his/her given fate and forge a path of their own. The elements of the story are fantastical, yes, but the emotions depicted are VERY real, very pure, and so very human - which is exactly why Berserk is so relatable. There's something in there for everyone - whatever your personal struggle is - odds are it's in there. That's why it's a fucking masterpiece.
I'd say the most relatable aspect of it is the whole "you never know what you had until its gone" that Guts experiences, and people who never seem satisfied with what they have and always try to look for the next bigger step in their life.
yeah, no one can relate to what he's been through (or what he has accomplished), but it's his humanity that people relate to. He's not a hero. Or a villain. He reacts to things humanly. And despite what he's gone through, he never quits. And that's what we all wish we COULD be.
And his relationships with Griffith and Casca especially are VERY relatable.
@@ToneSherpa Yeah tbh it was kinda annoying how Cody could apparently only like/relate with a manga if the protagonist was socially awkward in some regard/virgin. Severely limiting if you can only truly enjoy something if you HAVE to see yourself in it somewhere.
well that and combined with another criteria I have to say something is my favorite is that I reread it multiple times which I just haven't done with berserk cause I'm in the middle of reading it. my favorite protagonists in all media dont fit the criteria you put on me but the video isn't about books or videogames or even manga I've read outside of the podcast episodes. guts does go through a lot and so do pretty much all of my favorite protagonists, what he goes through has a lot in common with my favorite protags in general, but this also wasn't about our favorite protagonists either
