    you should change the stock because the polymer can flex and touch the barrel unless you dremel the sides to remove the possibility of contact.

    Like the video. I have everything (mostly pre-kid money) from custom Rem 700 to cheap Axis hunting rifle for my kid. So, here is what I learned. Axis and Axis II - both have cheap flimsy stocks which can be easily improved.
    1) Pop the but plate off, add some lead shot, and either epoxy or silicone caulk to add some weight. Improves balance.
    2) With the stalk off, there are ribs in the forearm. Drill out the side ones out, cut an old/cheap fiberglass arrow shaft to fit in the channel. Grab some epoxy or liquid steel. Put some epoxy in the channel, set the arrow shafts down into the epoxy, fill until the channel is full like bedding project, (I put some blue tape on the action and barrel) stiffens up the forearm like crazy and changes the feel for very little money. Don't forget to rough up the stock and the shafts so the glue sticks.

    A scope is really in my opinion is all a savage axis needs. I absolutely love mine! I put a barska gen 2 6-24x50ir scope on it and it is phenomenal. A creedmoor deserves at least an 18x zoom scope otherwise you wont get the full potential the 6.5 creedmoor has to offer. I also just recently bedded my recoil lug to make sure it is making the best contact possible to the action. Havent shot it since bedding the recoil lug but i have high hopes it will be sub moa out to 300 or so yards. Its a pretty tough request but i think the axis can do it.

    • @mechcavandy986
      @mechcavandy986 Рік тому

      Do you like that Barska? I had one on a AR 15 about 15 years ago. I liked it. But I’m leery of stuff made in China. And I have another off-brand scope that’s a 6x18 with illuminated reticle. I’m leery of it too. It’s a Chinese brand I’ve never heard of.

    • @ratedredneck96
      @ratedredneck96 Рік тому

      @@mechcavandy986 it keeps a zero well but the instructions on the adjustable turrets are weird. It says 8 clicks for 1 inch in the instructions but the scope has 4 click incriments on the turrets like 1. . . 2 . . . 3 . . . 4 . . . 5 and when i tested the 1 inch adjustment with 4 or 8 clicks, neither was perfect. I like that it has a large zoom but im thinking about switching to the bsa sweet 6.5. It has turrets designed for 6.5 creedmoor and 3 or 4 different bullet weights. Its only 18x zoom but oh well, if it has accurate turret adjustment then its worth the little less zoom and who knows maybe the zoom is wrong and its not true 24x zoom.

    Enjoyed the video, I have a Savage Axis II 6.5 CM which unfortunately, haven’t had the opportunity to shoot it, yet as my local range has been shutdown for many months for repairs, it is scheduled to open back up on Sept 30th. So hopefully I can finally get to shoot. I did swap out the Bushnell scope that came with it with a Vortex copperhead 4-12X44. Happy Shooting...

    ok my axis was the reg trigger ..i went to a timney because it has a screw to move the sear engagement and a lock nut on the allen screw . and a allen screw for the play in the safety and the a allen screw for the pull weight .spring.. = 1 1/2 lb or less just rest your finger in the trigger and its off BANG but bounce it on the butt and it hold tight safe
    .. i also used 2 thin washers on each side of the trigger to remove the side to side play ..all came together with a boyds tac stock ..

    I would not worry about that very first shot. Some may call it your cold bore shot....10 o'clock, 1 MOA for that rifle and ammo combination. My cold bore shot for my rifle is 1 o'clock, half MOA with .308 Hornady 178 grain match. Try an aftermarket varmint or tactical chassis stock. More Sig Sauer Elite to feed it and looks to be a contender.

    • @TheHide
      @TheHide  4 роки тому +1

      Yea It was a cold bore but I didn't want to make excuses lol. I really think I may stick it in a stock or a chassis, just have to see how the channel funds play out to see what we will have to work with as far as funds. I think this rifle is a heck of a performer for the price. Thanks for watching!

    You don't appear to be a reloader by the way you fling/flick the brass across/ off the table, which incidentally indicates to me that you spend a lot of time and $ chasing / picking accuracy and settling for what works best for a particular combination that has been assembled. In my opinion I've come to view this as a sportsman's mentality (defined below) . Meaning that once the hunt is completed the carcass is deposited to a processor, spending $300+ for all kinds of summer sausage/jerky and feeling like they've saved all kinds of $ on meat. In the end you may have spent more per pound than if you had bought a 1/4 of beef.
    Guys..., if your going to turn it all into burger, sausage, & jerky..., break even the first year by buying a grinder and a vertical stuffer, stop watching videos on how to be better at video games (grow the F up), or vids on the newest and coolest "tacticool" equipment and teach yourselves how to do it. IT'S NOT THAT HARD! Now if you want steaks/roasts/ crown roasts, etc. that's a little different and you better know how to cook to obtain a truly remarkable meal. But for grind the ONLY thing you need to know is how to get it off the bone without cutting yourself. SERIOUSLY, it's THAT simple!
    My definition of a SPORTMAN...; one who buys into marketing that you NEED all this gear to harvest a deer (or game). Admittion.., every deer I've harvested for 15 years+ has been from the cab of my truck. Here in Nebraska as long as you're off of any public right-of-way, and the vehicle is turned off, you are legal. Your state may differ. I'm a HUNTER, not a SPORTSMAN. Hunting is NOT a sport to me but a necessity, and when I engage in it I treat as it as such.

    • @TheHide
      @TheHide  3 роки тому +1

      If you have to ask whether I'm a reloader or not, clearly you haven't watched or followed much here on the channel. I'm not a hunter at all so I'm not sure what your trying to get at with all the talk about sausage and other assorted meats. Believe it or not there are a number of guys that just like to shoot guns for no other reason than to make a piece steel go "ring" or to ventilate paper... At any rate thanks for watching!
