JY018 Flight Test

  • Took this little guy about 15 minutes from home, to Highbanks Park in Columbus Ohio today. Wanted to have more open space to fly, and less interference from the power lines behind our property and the cluster of WiFi signals in our neighborhood. Not super windy, but was enough to make it hard to control this super light drone when a gust came along. Not terrible for such a cheap drone, but it seems the average run time is a little less than advertised, at least in my initial tests. Basically, expect no more than about 5 to 7 minutes of flight time on a single charge. Spare batteries are a must if you want to spend any real time flying around.
Check out "Help me buy a DJI Spark for my UA-cam channel!" on Indiegogo igg.me/at/G0LcT...
If you would like to donate to me, to help me get new hardware, especially a better drone, you can donate to me at the link below:

Also, I'm currently interested in the Wingsland S6 as my next potential drone. I'm still new to flying drones, so I want to start off in the lower price range, but with decent hardware. The S6 looks like a great place to start. You could also donate an S6 to me directly if you want. Go ahead and let me know.

Hello, could you mod the camera of this drone?

Thanks for a good review, saved me the effort of testing.
I shall break up/disassemble a 1500mah 2S and make a couple of single cell 1500 and see how that goes with one taped to the bottom side..

The drone flies well but the instruction booklet is totally useless. There are no explanations for most of the control buttons.
How do you calibrate it? What is 'headless mode'? What is a 'key take-off' - button 28? What is 'key drop - button 29?
I can't find a decent instruction manual on the web either.

Search the interweb. After an exhaustive search I finally found a site that had a very thorough explanation of all the functions and how to use them all...COMPLETELY IN UNDERSTANDABLE ENGLISH!!! Sorry I don't have the website at hand, but you will find it if you persist. I have a blast with my JY 018!

dismantle the battery is very easy and , I should think it would be very easy to put a second battery in parallel ( battery only , without the plastic box) into the belly of the drone and secure it with the underpart of the original box : this would compensate a bit for the extra weight .
I will try to do it once I got extra batteries.

I brought a set of two batteries which I did mount in parralel : simply remove and dismantle the belly and keep the underpart of it then there is enough space to put the two batteries in the belly . The underpart is only used to close the compartment .
Flight is easy except the drone needs a little more thrust to maintain altitude but on the other hand it is more stable and fly for about 13 /15 minutes before loosing altitude .
Charging time takes more time of course.

Is there a way to use jjrc h37 batteries inside the plastic battery box of the jy018? Finding it hard to find spare batteries locally and jjrc's battery seems to be more accessible.

i think the calibration was off because the drone was tilted when you set gyro

Edward Butter practice. Really. They don't have the best control, but gyro mode will by far be the easiest.
