I love white water rafting here, its so exhilarating, once we had to save a kayaker stuck in one of the eddys, she came out okay but we all feared the worst
The Gauley is where class III guides run class IV rapids and call it class V. Video guy is awesome though, he’s selling super soakers like they’re AKs.
Carlton is my first and Favorite and great Guide ... in the Ocoee and he mentioned the 14 foot drops along the Gauley... NOPE, THATS NOT FOR ME, CARLTON.
This was my first time ever on the Upper Gauley ..I had no idea the power of that undertow...When we flipped on Pillow Rock .. what an experience. Scared the hell out of me!
I’ve never rafted the Chattooga, but I grew up in Georgia, and used to camp and hike along it a lot growing up. This looks a lot more wide then I remember the Chattooga as being. I’ve been up in Pennsylvania for awhile now, and just recently rafted the upper section of the Youghiogheny River, which has a nice, long section in the middle that’s exclusively class 4 and 5 rapids (probably took us close to 3 hours to get through that section). Our guide kept saying how much he loves the Gauley here, though he had never heard of the Chattooga.
Oh, and regards to speed, I think that the Gauley here is damn fed, while the Chattooga is “wild”, meaning that it is all determined by a combination of snow melt and rainfall.
@@meshacaudle2551 also if you aren't an experienced rafter, not sure on your skill level, you can get some class 3 and 4 rapids on the New River in Fayetteville with rafting companies. Highly recommend either
This is amazing! I'm a reporter for Caters News and we'd love to feature this video in a new tv series we're working on. Can you please email me at alycecollins@catersnews.com for info - thanks!
We did this back in 92-94! A group of 25-30 of us. One of the best experiences!
The narration is the greatest!!
