Great coverage of Enchanted Rock. I’ve been up it many times with friends and relatives. One time during August a surprise rain shower rolled in and produced lots of hissing steam. And don’t knock Whataburger !
We stay at Bending Oaks every year and the owners are amazing. They will guide you to your site when you arrive. The community is really friendly. Older yes but I will take great customer service over fancy and new. Enjoy your trip.
Thanks for letting the RV community know about the unacceptable and unprofessional manner in which Firefly responded to your situation. No, it is not your or our responsibility to check their social media pages to find out an announcement of this type. The onus is on the business to let their customers know that they may experience something less than an ideal experience. How dare they try to shift the blame to you!! I have seen these tactics used by a few businesses as if there's no way they could be wrong about anything. In those cases they receive no further business from me and I will, like you, let others know about it. If they had simply apologized to you I bet that you would have felt better and your video would have been much different. I applaud you for standing up for what is the right way for people to be treated!!!
I'll throw in Lady Bird Municipal Park just south of town, next to the airport. This is a really nice RV park. Super cool seeing the planes coming and going. Very affordable. Worth a look next time y'all are in the area. Oh and the Bent Tree was a KOA up until a couple of yrs ago.
Maybe I'm wrong - but I feel like this is the first time you've pointed out alternative places to stay besides the place you were at. That says a lot. 😉
On my way to see the eclipse in San Antione I pulled off I-10 at what I think is called Pecan grove RV park. They didn't have any hookup sites but they made a space for me to dry camp off the road in. They had a campfire that night and offered red hot shots and several people brought out thier guitars and played the night away. Some of the niciest people ever. Wish I could remember the name of that place, best campground ever.
Chad, if you are interested in investing in an RV site my friend owns a park in Montana and he's just starting to offer lots for sale. Zero noise except the local wildlife. Absolutely stunning location.
Weve stayed a few different places. Vineyard, Limestone, and Lady Bird. All have been pretty quiet. Lady bird has an airport nearby and it has always been quiet. Firefly looks really nice… stinks that happened.
Thanks for letting us knowing. We stay in Kerrville. We use to stay at Fredericksburg RV and no longer stay there. We will continue to stay at Buckhorn RV resort and drive to Fredericksburg. We thought about Firefly but will not be staying there based on customer service.
They do/did have control over the construction noise. They could have stipulated in the contract no machinery operations before 8am. It might cost a bit more, but from the prices you've shown, sounds like they could afford it.
We stayed at Peach Country RV resort in Stonewall, TX. Great Park, centralized to a lot of things to do. They don’t have a pool but the State Park across the road does. Just have to pay day use fee. It has a dog run and the bathhouse was always immaculate! Best price in the area.
I can relate to the construction. Years back, we rented a home, a beautiful newer 2 story near Orlando. It was so new that come early the first morning, we found them excavating the area abutting to our rental property. The private pool we had at our rental home was very dirty, probably from the close by excavating. The noise all day was so bad, we made a point to just use the home for sleeping. We thought about complaining since there was no mention of construction but the house was so amazing, we just made a mental note for future vacations. The noise and sand & dirt blowing everywhere is terribly disappointing while anticipating a peaceful, relaxing time.
Thanks for the video, very informative. Too bad for Firefly resort, hopefully they will learn soon that they have competition, they need to straighten their Customer Service rapport from the resort-Director's office. Your video information was very clear. Thanks, Peter
Check out Sunset Point RV Resort in Marble Falls, TX. It's about 45 miles from Fredricksburg but a nice motorcycle ride! Small park, all pull-throughs, curb trash collection, daily. It sits on a point of land, surrounded by Lake LBJ and waaaayyy off the main highway (very quiet). This is our fav High Country stay.
My Daughter had her wedding and reception there at Enchanted Rock state park, very nice place. While we were there, we stayed at 'The Vineyards RV Park' and it was very nice.
I understand places needing/wanting to expand, but I also understand that they are there for the customers at the same time, and having a chip on your shoulder when responding to customers isn't really the best way to present yourselves. A park we used to enjoy (the owner since sold it) in Anaheim had construction going on across the street - but they were nice enough to wait until 9:ish before the noisy equipment started, and they only ran it until 3 - before and after was all smaller equipment that wasn't so noisy. The work got done in the required time, and the residents of the park weren't put out by all the extreme noise, so it can be done.
Firefly has had mixed reviews on various platforms, social media, etc. particularly in the customer service realm. We've considered staying there when we come to the Fredericksburg area but just haven't because of the random negative experiences we've heard about. Thanks for sharing your experience.
You made a valid point about the “Response” you received from Firefly. We, as owners, have complained about him as well. We own Lot 90 & were there Spring Break and heard No noise. We’re at the entrance of park by pool. In all fairness, Firefly was voted #1 Texas RV Resort and 3rd in Nation🤩
Ya but for any new person. This noise or construction debris should be notted on reservation. Its very obvious they arent doing that to keep booking up. If my booking said "CONSTRUSTION NOISE" at the same price i'd nope out.
We've been to parks where construction is taking place and they have actually discounted the site or gave 'free stays' for future stays. The very least they should have a big sign at the check in indicating construction. Sounds like this rv resort should take a class in positive customer engagement.
I hate that you guys had such a crappy stay at Firefly. We were at Limestone Charm in March in a pull through and we loved it. The owners were awesome, we never heard any noise at all inside the rig. I keep hoping we are going to see you guys on the road!
I agree with you about the resort. They should have warned ya but then they would lose business and they know it. These people just don't realize the impact your review will have with the followers yall have. How easy is it to have common curiosity and tell folks we have some construction going on. That was some beautiful country thanks for sharing.
I agree with you. Pretty snarky response from them. I would have considered moving to another park immediately even if your friends had to rent an RV for the stay as well.
We stayed at firefly back in April. We wanted to try it out just to see what it was like. We have been going to Fredericksburg for over 30 years usually around 3 times per year. We have always stayed at bending oaks and will from now on continue to go to bending oaks. This park used to be a KOA and we went through 4 or 5 different owners. The current owners decided to move away from the KOA franchise and go their own way. As y’all commented the trees are nice and give a lot of shade which is much appreciated in the summer months. When we started going to enchanted rock it was a private ranch which had a campground. We would sit at the bottom and watch people with hang gliders carry them to the top and fly off the summit. Fredericksburg used to be full of antique shops and now it’s all about the wine tourism. It’s still a great place to go and it’s only 4 hours from home. Hope y’all will come back sometime. LeAnne and Charles Byrd. Alvarado Texas
I'm glad y'all are enjoying your travels in Texas. I'm sorry that you had issues at the campground. I could not believe that they responded to y'all the way that they did. They should have had a notice on their web site as well as telling you when you checked in. I'm going to take a wild guess that this is not a Texas owned company. Their response was not very wise, they should know the RV community is not that big that both good and bad news travels fast, let alone with a traveling You Tube couple. Hopefully, the rest of y'alls stay will be much more enjoyable. God bless y'all and stay safe out there on the road.
Wow! We read your review on that place and their response. You weren’t asking for anything besides communication. That’s a bummer they operate their business like that. You two were fair and honest (like always!) Husband and I love your videos! We will full time in retirement. 7.5 years and counting! -Kelli and Paul
Hate to say it but the prices you paid are normal for the FXB, Austin, San Antonio area of Texas. We stay at Bending Oaks Ranch when we visit. We like it because it is adults only with lots of trees. It is also quiet, and the owners are very easy to work with.
I look for mom and pop RV places. Stayed at Kitty hawk RV, right on the beach, tight parking.. only 50 spots. I had just enough room to put my awning out before it touched the camper next to me, but it was 7 days for 475 bucks, 500 yards from the beach and the best owners you could ask for.
The music and the views I just can't get over how beautiful it is. I'm not a hiker but goodness its so amazing. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe god bless.
We had a similar experience at a Southeastern park. It was obviously under construction to expand the number of sites. Fortunately, we found the park amenities to be nice enough to offset the noise and dust. However, we were not located right next to the construction as you were. We did stay at a park recently that had construction in the area which was so intrusive, we will not go back. After that experience, we added construction to our RV park selection criteria. Sympathy for your negative experience. Appreciate your even handed perspective. Biggest concern is the high price for facilities that really are negatively impacted by objectionable noise.
Thank you for sharing this Not just entertaining but informative experience. We like the smaller campgrounds too. The last one, we would not stay at. Fredericksburg really looks interesting. Love the hike
There are much better campgrounds all around Fredericksburg. We've not been to Firefly, but did try to make a reservation there a few months ago. First it was $85 a night, plus a "Resort Amenities" fee per person, per night and finally an additional daily charge for a pet! Two nights over a weekend came to $400! No thanks. We stayed instead at Buckhorn Lake RV Resort just outside of Kerrville. Close enough to Fredericksburg for trips into town, plus trips into Kerrville and it's one of the premier RV Parks in Texas for RVers. Average pricing is $55/night and they have cabins. Also, in Fredericksburg did you not see the Museum of the Pacific War???
OMG- she sounds' just like mine "No Whataburger !!!!" I'm a local civil engineer working fer the largest excavation company in Texas. The thought of building a real RV park in Fredericksburg has crossed my mind everytime we visit.......great stuff guy's
I agree with u 100%, on this firefly for $85usa a night, over priced parking lot. And i'm sure it's their own expansion noise. Terrible customer service! Good for u for speaking about it! 💪🏼 🍻
Thank you for showing us all the hassle of an unfriendly RVresort/ park. Would you be able to share the model and builder of your friend's tiny home? It is gorgeous!
I am so sorry that your experience at Firefly was terrible. You are indeed right - those sites closest to the construction zone should have been at least discounted and accompanied by a warning and explanation during the booking phase.
Glad I saw this, as we were about to book. Off topic: Do you have tips for removing the window screens that are in their own tracks/move up and down, but no clips/tabs to make removal and re-install easy. TIA!
We stay at Firefly on a regular basis. We have never had anything but a great experience every time from start to finish. And it’s not that expensive. All those other parks you talked about for $80 a night we have never ever paid that much at Firefly. We were there for Spring Break we stay on the third tier facing the clubhouse never heard construction noise.
That's awesome. Just in the little bit of video, I could hear the construction noise and seeing management's reply in writing, shows how out of touch management is. While others may have had a great experience, just like Saturday and Sunday was for Tara and Chad. Their bad experience started on Monday and got worse as soon as they spoke with management. I hope you never get treated like they did and you future stays are great too. Management should have acknowledge and not lie about "screaming it from the roofs" when they minimized the construction....ate best
I have to agree. We were there for a week in April just a half block down from where Changing a Lanes stayed. There was not any construction noise at all. We enjoyed our stay.
We Stayed at the Fredericksburg RV park in town really nice and clean also not Expensive. lots for history there, Did you visit the Admiral Nimitz and the pacific war Museum
I would not stay at Bending Oaks Ranch. Heard too many not so good things about this place. Friends had their RV broken into while they were staying there. We have stayed at Arch Ray. Nice place but you hear the road noise on 290 all night, we were in the back. And the water hookups are below ground. It had rained and we had to scoop the water out so we could hook up. It was a turkey vulture flying at Enchanted Rock. So glad your last video pointed out the noise. I was able to get my site moved further way before our stay next month. Thank you.
That 07:01 noise to those Firefly people is the sound of money. Yeah, they should have told you guys. Too bad about the poor customer service. Seems like they only care about getting their money, not the experience of the guests. Since we camp (not RV) the state park would be the winner for us.
You gave an honest and fair review of a situation that would be annoying to anyone and their response was we are expanding so be happy for us. Wtf? I hate to say I’m not surprised because these greedy outfits are everywhere now. I hope you had a nice time otherwise.
Thanks for the invite to TX high country. I been wondering what it would be like in that area. Hope to make it there in the next couple of years, time will tell. Happy trails...
@@ChangingLanes I realize that but it is a start. I think that may work for a good spot between our son's place and our daughters place. I plan on working from the rv as well, but I would like to speak with someone to figure out the possible positions I can fulfil. Do you know anyone with info like that? if so, please let me know, as I am feeling excited to be alive and well. Thanks, Rich
Pro tip, if you zig zag up the hill it's not near as bad. Easier on the knees and back. Your criticism of Firefly was very fair and justified. We appreciate you sharing your experiences with us.
We stayed at Arch Ray late last year. I believe that the owner also owns the winery/ restaurant next door. If I remember correctly, they are going to start a very large expansion project with even plans for a hotel. Was quiet while we were there.
RV "resorts" are not really my thing, but if I paid that much I would not be happy with the construction noise. I agree with your review. That was a turkey vulture. Keep moving! 😁
As an added note; General McArthur was born and raised in Fredericksburg and his family owned and ran the Hotel on Main Street . At the time we were there, the Hotel was being renovated and converted into a museum. I’m not sure if it is in operation today?? We appreciate your tips and trips with honest and matter of fact critique as well as complementary comments . You guys are the real deal!
I fully understand your complaint. There's no reason why the construction couldn't start @8. If I remember you said you paid $89 a night. Which seems like a bargain compared to the parks you showed us and their rates/ settings. I'm curious about the 3 levels of sites at Firefly and their differences. Rates/ amenities. Going on our first trip next month to Kentucky to see the Ark Encounter using Boondockers Welcome. Big learning experience.
Heck in February of 2020 we had construction tractors driving through our campsite, masonry saws, dust clouds, and a full landscape crew at Pecan Park in Jacksonville, Fl. They commandeered our rinse off hose and was using it as their own. I had to move our toad and retract our awning so they had access for the tractors, it was actually dangerous for us. I asked the office person if we could move sites since there were a lot of empty ones and was told I need to talk to the manager. The manager refused to talk to us by not being “available” to talk for days and didn’t respond to our requests. I videoed the travesty and sent it to the parent company who did not respond at all. The video is on my channel and is unbelievable. What a horrible experience.
Almost like climbing a mini version of Stone Mtn in Atlanta. Have to admit, never thought there'd be such a thing as a rhinory, but cool none the less!
We feel the same way about Creede, and your video was absolutely fantastic! Thanks for sharing 🤠👍
We stayed at Bending Oak Ranch 2 years ago and liked it then.

Bending Oaks is an old KOA that was sold a few years ago.

I packed and remote camped on the back side of the rock about 15 years ago.
Great experience.
Now at 60+, it's not going to happen.
Great memories.
Ok, I guess we will go to Fredericksburg for our shakedown trip, but in mid July... we won't be hiking up that summit!! I love your videos!!!
I really appreciate the thoughtful review of Fire fly. I took a look at the prices and realized that I would not be visiting there anytime soon.

Have you tried their spicy with Chalua yet? I'm curious. I haven't.
Thanks for standing against bad service
Ah... catching up on your videos....see you walked by our CUTCO tent at Trade Days...
We are located in Olean, NY...hope you got to check us out...😊
Bluebonnets in bloom!
That 07:01 noise to those Firefly people is the sound of money. Yeah, they should have told you guys. Too bad about the poor customer service. Seems like they only care about getting their money, not the experience of the guests. Since we camp (not RV) the state park would be the winner for us.
When you checked into Firefly the construction barrier two pads down was not a clue ? 🕵️♀️
There’s so much more to see in Hill County than the area we were in. We look forward to going back and seeing more 😀
@@ChangingLanes I realize that but it is a start.
Did you try Hild's Tortillas across the street from the Oakwood RV park in Fredericksburg?
Next time! 😊 Thanks for the tip! 👍🏼
Great show. Thanks.
Great video. Unfortunate situation for you and your friends. That RV park has definitely made it to our “Do not spend money with” list. Thank you.👍🏼😎
What about the Ganite Mountain
Pro tip, if you zig zag up the hill it's not near as bad. Easier on the knees and back. Your criticism of Firefly was very fair and justified. We appreciate you sharing your experiences with us.
Thank you! We actually did a zig zag pattern on the way down but didn’t even think about it on the way up! 😆🤦♀️
We stayed at Arch Ray late last year. I believe that the owner also owns the winery/ restaurant next door. If I remember correctly, they are going to start a very large expansion project with even plans for a hotel. Was quiet while we were there.
Thanks for that info! ☺️
You deserve a Whataburger after that. Enchanted Rock can kick your butt if you aren't in shape... especially in the summer.
Fun watch. I think you need a good burger. Visit San Diego again soon. Happy travels.
🍔😎
RV "resorts" are not really my thing, but if I paid that much I would not be happy with the construction noise. I agree with your review.
That was a turkey vulture. Keep moving! 😁
Seems like every RV park gets the "Resort" moniker nowadays. Gotta charge more for usually nothing.
Did you realize that there is a WWII Pacific Theater museum in Fredericksburg?
Yes! but we didn't make it this time around. Next time! We heard it's great.
Bending Oaks is adults only I believe last I checked, positive for some and negative for others
Bending Oaks use to be a KOA in its early years.
Fredericksburg RV is in town and long enough for your rig.
Stayed at Arch Ray last fall, we were in the back, had a little noise from 290, but it was not bad. Bonus, our small dog liked the turf at the sites
That family at 5:18, Jack, Smart, and their 3 kids Lazy, Kiss, and Dumb, really get around. They're everywhere!
You are my
Heroes
Almost like climbing a mini version of Stone Mtn in Atlanta. Have to admit, never thought there'd be such a thing as a rhinory, but cool none the less!
So what was the name of the wine that tastes like spring.
That was a Nada Hawk. AKA a Turkey Vulture. 😂🤣
The neighbors kind of suck comment had me laughing
Tara was correct. it was a turkey vulture!
Bending Oaks Ranch used to be a KOA ,just so you know
