The Good and the Bad - Maxxis Dissector - 90 Second Review
Вставка

- As you know tires were hard to come by throughout the shortages of the last two years. I ended up buying this for my wife when she needed a rear tire and because I was waiting on my rear wheel to get warrantied, I was using her wheelset. Here's my thoughts.

Thanks for sharing. New to this tire in maxxterra on the rear, i will keep a lookout.
Glad to help
Always run a DHRII in the rear but definitely though about trying this tire. Thanks for the review man.
No problem 👍
Ive been running a dissector front / rekon rear on my trail bike for a few months with no complaints, rolls fast and the dissector has just enough grip to keep the front end in check. However I have tinkered with a DHR2 front / dissector rear and DHF front / dissector rear and it does wear out noticeably faster in the rear than any other rear tire Ive ever used. Spot on review.
I’ll have to try that combo some time.
Norcal guy here as well. Been running it up front and have no problems, its lasted about a year riding tahoe, auburn and mandolorean :), even took it to St George. Its fast rolling.
I ride up in Auburn mostly and Nevada City, where's this mandolorean?! I'm a star wars fan as well ✌🏾
Nice! Mando is rough on tires.
@@B1KER Yoooo where is this Mando 😅 lol
I actually run one on the front and rear of my Revel Rascal in the summer. Fantastic fast tire with lots of grip. As you pointed out though really does wear quickly on the rear. I like it better then the slow Assagai on the front.
Right on, I like that Assegai up front.
@@B1KER That said I'll probably throw the big guy out front again for the winter and spring time hahaha. It turns to slop around here unfortunately. Both great tires. I guess I didn't mention I'm in PA btw.
What compound were you running? I agree that it wears hella fast, but I love it as a rear tire. Rolls fast, corners great, and brakes decent. In max terra it wore out in a couple months of ebike usage.
I prefer the Aggressor.
I am using a Shorty on the front of my bike and it looks to be real similar in tread design. I would say it has been good as far as not chipping out. I would say it is just OK as far as traction for the front goes, have had it slide out a couple times. I was actually considering the Dissector for a rear with a DHFII in front but probably going to stick with the tried and true DHF/DHR combo
Assegai F Agressor R for the win!
Good review, mate
What’ll you put in to replace the Dissector? DHRII?
My favorite combo is Assegai F and Aggressor R.
Agree as rear tire mine is falling apart too. I like the traction as rear but will go back to aggressor as my rear when dissector is toast.
Seems to be the common consensus.
Same.. Even with the harder compound, mine turned into a slick in less than a month. AZ high country is too dry/rough for it. Aggressor holds up longer, but even those wear pretty fast up here.
I really like the Aggressor.
The Dissector is actually a great front tire for a downcountry bike
Was just going to post that I'm running it in the front with an Aggressor in the rear and love the combo for my FS in SoCal
Right on!
Same experience. I snag them on Amazon "like new" used condition for around $60 every now and then.
Glad I'm not alone!
I ran a dual compound Dissector on the rear and it lasted ok. Not terrible but not great either. I think the lack of transition knob puts more pressure on the inner edge of the cornering knobs making them get undercut like that.
That makes sense.
I ride it as a front tire on my Downcountry and it's fun as hell. You definitely need to get used to the wide space between center and side knobs because it feels like your bike wants to tip over cornering before the side knobs grab. But when they do it feels like a ski. Super fun. Had the same experience on the rear btw. Wears out super fast.
Seems like the wear is pretty common.
I have about 175 miles on my rear dissector and it still looks new. It’s the the regular version and not the 3c. I’m on a hardtail, in Ohio and avoid brake slides if possible haha. Hard packed clay and roots mostly. Our rocks aren’t very sandpaper-ish either.
Right on!
Same story here, clay and roots for the most part. All tires last a long time here because there's very little sharp rocks. Other people that I know that live in other parts of BC go through tires 4-5x faster than we do. The Exo Aggressor is great and rolls a lot faster than DHR2 in the same compound for some reason but also wears quicker. Totally agree with the review. Bought the DD casing for my new bike.
Had the same with DHR2. After 1 weekend in the bike park the knobs were already pulling away. I got the dissector after and it's been lasting longer than the DHR2. Still similar issues with knobs starting to pull away. Thinking of trying continentals next since they've had so much success in competition this past year.
I've heard a few people mention them. I've never ridden thiers.
I have ran both front and back together. 3C front DC rear. I thought it wore well in the back compared to Aggressor.
Interesting
Every single one of my side lugs on my disector have torn and are half hanging on. Maybe 50 rides. Now, my assegai on the front is absolute money for a front tire, but im switching to a continental for the rear.
I have had the same experience. I really like the Aggressor on the rear.
My main issue with the dissector was I felt like it kept wanting to stand my bike up when leaving it over in turns. Not sure why this is caused, but as a result it pushes through the corner
That's interesting.
Is that a 3C model? Try the harder compound, it's still grippy.
I can't remember. I"ll have to take a look.
1:14 no wonder it's wearing like that, the knobs are tiny, and are not super rigid, so they will bend and tear. As you can see the tiny knobs wore the most, while the bigger did better.
the side knobs are way too narrow. This is a bad design.
I think you are right about the cornering, the side knobs are too narrow, and won't do well on track stands and slow techy turns(Michelin Wild Enduro is really great for that, but wear faster especially with the stickier rubber version), and the wide gap between can make it slip. But Wild Enduro has wide spacing at the side knobs, butt has transition knobs, so they transition really well, but the side knobs are more stable than High Roller 2, old Shorty. but I wore beads on Maxxis tyres within 4-6 months, if my health was batter and rode more I would have blown them up quicker, but the bead can wear and eventually blow off. so regular inspection is needed. This is an issue I've only had with Maxxis, I've had tens of them, and all were out of true, thread was misaligned, and the wobble always got worse with use. bead wore down to the nylon so if I did not check this from time to time, the tyre could have blown off.
But with Michelin the bead looks like new, but I did not ride as much due to health issues, but I managed to wear the knobs, they rounded off and there was cracking, sliced rear tyre, so I swapped them for another set.
But as I am satisficed with the handling, they feel perfect, and bead is great, Maxxi's bead is way too fragile. I rather have the tyres wear down quicker than to suddenly explode or having to take them off to inspect them.
I have an XC bike which I only use as a spare and to gentle riding, so does not get much riding, but over the years I managed to get those tyres to wobble too, so can't blame gnarly riding and hard cornering. But bead did better there, but I rode it gently. But the out of true tyres are annoying. if I strip the bike for parts and sell it I will probably just give the tyres to a friend, or who ever wants them.
I’ll have to check out the Michelin’s

🤘
Ah yes, the famous Maxxis Deflator.
LOL!
LOL. 30 rides.......I got like a dozen in Santa Cruz.
Not sure what you're saying there....
@@B1KER I'm saying 30 is super good for that tire. My experience was it's amazing for like 10-12 rides then dies quickly.
@@Nick.Keane77 Ah, that makes sense! 👍
Best front tire I've used fast and makes you a better rider
I’ve never used it as a front. I’ll have to try that sometime.
@B1KER it's a total front tire now idea why people put it on the back its not even gorgeous a rear tire design
Dissector front rekon rear perfect northeast trail tires for summer/fall. Dissector rear won’t last 300 miles. No good
That's an interesting combo.
Dhr2 is king of the rear!
I prefer the Aggessor.
3C compound isn't long life.
I hear ya.
Honestly maxxis quality has went down hill. If you call them about that they will warranty that tire. I had them do my dhf and dhr
My wife doesn't ride as hard as me, I'm sure it has plenty of life in it for her.
