Sailors assigned to the "Golden Eagles" of Patrol Squadron (VP) 9 operate a P-8A Poseidon aircraft as part of exercise Baltic Operations (BALTOPS) 2019. BALTOPS is the premier annual maritime-focused exercise in the Baltic Region, marking the 47th year of one of the largest exercises in Northern Europe enhancing flexibility and interoperability among allied and partner nations.

They've been using those same Sonobuoy launch tubes like forever (well at least the '70's when I first used them). That rotary launcher though is new to me.
Yeah it's like a revolver, and a really neat concept.

I sorta miss the P-3 Orion. But the 8A is cool.
The crew from JAxX came to my FBO and gave me the grand tour last week. Amazing aircraft, Boeing got it right.
Who collects those sonobuoys after the pilots are done using them ?

jpkosoltrakul very common especially when they might not be traveling to a base supported by that aircraft. Transient maintenance might be able to change the tire but still needs a good tire to change into.
I have no idea what was going on but it must have worked as I did not see any submarines!

What is the spinning thing next to the throttles?
Trim wheels.
Manual stabilizer trim wheels. Many pilots will tell you that there is a folding handle to grab when using manual trim. They will also tell you that they have been caught by that wheel when the handle isn’t folded correctly. They will say they got caught by the handle ONCE.......ONCE. Then they remember to fold it correctly for the rest of their career.
Spinning thangy' ,,,, well that is known as the Cake Mixer,,, its used to make Cakes for the Pilots to eat in case they get hungry up there !!!

"Sonobuoys". They have a hydrophone that listens for submarines, and the floating body radios it to the plane for processing and detection.

So this is a throwback to happy days spent at Kinloss with the RAF Nimrod fleet. The in-flight rations seemed almost as vital as the sonobuoys. So what is DCS?
