Hello everyone, I am fully aware that I cannot (and should not) play the role of Eliza in Hamilton. The roles in Hamilton are specifically for people of colour and it's incredibly important it remains that way. The purpose of this cover was not to "audition" for the role but merely to sing a song I love from a musical I admire. I wasn't aware that also covering songs from Hamilton wasn't okay if you're not a person of colour. I apologise profusely to those I have upset! I shall be more careful about my song choices in future. xxx
Just because it is a song typically played by people of colour doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to cover just because you're white. A characters song from a musical shouldn't be governed by certains things if you enjoy the song and like the way you feel about it doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to cover it, It is a beautiful cover and quite frankly your version is amazing and needs to be heard by people who were not bitten by the hamilton bug to see what the fuss is about. It is an amazing cover
It's okay to cover a song and post it online. Nowhere in the lyrics she mentions that she is a person of colour. You can cover whatever you want and obviously this isn't an audition. This is more of an appreciation rather than appropriation.
No Carrie please don't do that! This is such an outstanding song and you've done an amazing job with it! I don't believe you were in anyway trying to audition for this role but instead showing your love for the song and musical. You did an outstanding job! Xxx
Carrie, what sets you apart as a singer is your acting. You feel every note and lyric you sing, and it's evident in your face. You never just "sing", you perform. It's amazing
As a person of color and a HUGE supporter of Lin and Hamilton, I know that you covering this song is not a problem at all! The role is made for a POC, yes, but Lin admires anyone who covers his songs or would like to put on productions of them - both Hamilton and In The Heights - as long as POC are not excluded to do so as has been seen in a lot the arts. This cover is amazing, and Lin would have loved it.
Chyna Moore thank you so much for saying this!! I feel like the only people hating on her are white people who haven't even heard a poc's opinion about her singing this
Wow. I don't think any other video I've seen has showcased your talents as an actress and your amazingly strong voice better than this. You were really born for musical theatre!
Tickets are really expensive, but they're doing a tour so you could try when it comes to you or if not idk, but the soundtrack paints the picture kinda.
I'm extremely disappointed in the world we live in. We talk about equality and togetherness yet a white female cannot cover a song that she likes because the original actress of the character is POC. Does this mean that I can't enjoy this song or the masterpiece that is Hamilton because I'm also white? I wasn't phased when Norm Lewis, a black actor, played The Phantom because he had a love for the play. It's double standards to ridicule Carrie for covering a song she loves and then praise the world for moving forward by casting a black actor to play Phantom.
im disapointed in the people that make huge deals of someone coming out as gay or something and people that claim to be weird but then their are billions that would kill to be talked to atleast once..it also makes me sick and disappointed that people make a huge deal of blacks and whites..i mean if we never made such a big deal of these things do you really think theyd be a huge problem in society? LIKE DO YOU REALLY THINK ANYONE WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM WITH this if we just shut up and stopped making it a big thing
@@aWERFRGT6545BGFG Is people coming out as gay really a huge problem or did I misread. And people claiming to be weird yet getting spoken to, this is specific and jealous-sounding. I agree with the race thing, though…sorry to find this so much later, but…??
Just saw Carrie's tweet about this and I'm so close to crying! You shouldn't have to mark this as unlisted just because some horrible people can't just listen to someone cover a song!! You sung this song beautifully, you are an incredibly talented person and there's no need to apologise for other people's feelings, me and the other people who agree with me, who have common sense, know this wasn't your way of auditioning for the role of Eliza in the UK addition of Hamilton, and anyway, Lin Manuel Mirand who wrote this terrific musical said he gave tohe roles of the characters to people he deemed worthy of the parts, who he thought was the most qualified and who he thought had the right sound and range for the characters, no because of skin colour, race or relgion, but just beause they had the look Lin was going for, so I don't think he'd be bothered if you did play Eliza one day, I personally think you did a splendid job with this song and would make a great Eliza, so please stop apologising for other peoples feelings and please stop explainging yourself and flaunt your wonderful gift of singing and acting, because it's the grace you was born with and you are amazing and stunning just the way you are!
It makes me sad that some people have completely misinterpreted the casting. Lin said that he chose the cast based on talent and the whole process wasn't made biased because of race, gender, religion or anything like that. Hamilton is a wonderful play for everyone, no matter who you are or where you have come from.
I'd like to hear Lin Manuel's opinion on whether white people can cover his songs, I feel like he'd be horrified by the backlash you've received over this. Where is the line? I've got the Hamilton soundtrack in my car, am I allowed to sing along? Should I stop my nieces from enjoying the musical because they're white? Am I even allowed to go and see the show? One of the most common ways of showing your love and appreciation for a musical is to cover a song, yet we're now being told it's not allowed. You're not auditioning for the role, you're appreciating the song and like I saw in one of your tweets you feel like you can relate to Eliza's story. I feel like I can't even voice my opinion on this without receiving hate. It's a very confusing situation with no real boundaries..
It's ridiculous, it's not as if the musical is about Black people or People of Colour specifically, it's about Alexander Hamilton who is a white man? So I don't see why a white person shouldn't feel they relate or want to cover a song from the musical. It's an amazing cover, and her race has nothing to do with because she's so talented and told the story so well.
UUh, I don't know if anyone else has made this point, but the mixtapes? All kinds of artists sang Hamilton songs, and it didn't matter what their ethnicity is.
@Someone 333 she's Asian but none of it matters anyway both of these singers are great plus there's other Eliza's who sang it together and they were different races sooooo anyone saying that she can't cause she's white is just racist
Surely Lin and his fellow creators had a reason for casting all minorities in Hamilton and therefore that is different to singing songs on there own out of the context of the show. I think anyone who wants to cover those song and post them online should be able to do so. I see nothing wrong with it. The actors colour should not play a part in your enjoyment of a song/musical. I would have ignored those saying it Carrie as they probably don't understand the original reasons for the choice of minorities in casting Hamilton and the difference between covering a song and being in a show or how auditions work!
LMM casted a multiracial cast in order to reflect modern America. Going by that logic it does seem unfair that white people can't cover songs. The point is diversity, and to exclude white people in that limits that diversity. LMM has even said that he wouldn't mind a white person playing a role outside of the King! Really it's up to the casting directors though. Bottom line: she's really just covering a song, it's no big woop.
I think Carrie is extremely talented and did this song absolute justice. While I agree that representation is incredibly important for this musical, i don't think that there's anything wrong with non-POC covering this song. Music is universal.
This musical is meant to represent diversity, not exclusion. Anyone, of any race, can sing any song from Hamilton, and should not be attacked for it. I can't support Hamilton as a show because its fans attack non-POC people so vigorously for using 'their' show or 'their' music. It's horrible. This is a beautiful cover, one of Carrie's best, and she should not have to apologise for it.
" Artistic Differences3 months agoI can't support Hamilton as a show because its fans attack non-POC people so vigorously for using 'their' show or 'their' music" Hey, now, I'm a huge Hamilton fan and I'm as white as Snow White! Most Hamilton fans don't have a problem with white people liking the show or covering the songs. Heck, Kelly Clarkson, Regina Specktor, Sia, and at least one other white person covered songs on the Hamilton Mixtape, so clearly Lin-Manuel Miranda is cool with white people covering his songs. The role of King George is usually played by a white man, and there were a few other white people in the original cast. Don't let a few haters keep you from enjoying one of the greatest musicals ever written!
Artistic Differences exactly, I’m debating whether to post me singing it, but I white and I have blonde hair and the stereotype is that I can only be the one blonde girl in the ensemble and it’s like that’s it and it’s sad that Hamilton is diverse and was written like it but people are putting people into pigeon holes saying that you can only play this role because of your skin tone, or your hair colour, I just don’t get why we can’t just have Hamilton, stage story of America told by America now, so not worrying about someone’s race to play a certain role.
I am a white person who absolutely adores the Hamilton musical and I do not care what race sings any of the songs from Hamilton. They’re songs. People need to chill.
I personally think if you're singing a song out of context, you're completely within your right to cover whatever song you want- No-one would say you can't cover Bring Him Home because you're female, and no-one would say you can't cover Defying Gravity because you're not green skinned. I accompanied a friend for this in a concert at our old college and there was none of this. I hesitate to use the words "over sensitive," but it does sometimes feel like the world has gone mad with it's politically correctness- which is of course a good thing, but within it's own context!
Do you all think Eliza would approve of this? Not Philipa but Elizabeth Hamilton. She opened up the first orphanage in Washington DC for children. Not for only children of color. But for everyone, she didn't care about color, only for who you truly are. Now, would you be proud if she were to see this? [Although she can't]
how does like. the vibrato at the end of some phrases come so naturally? :( it sounds so great but i just. i cant do it. That was beyond fantastic by the way, you even provided the emotion that comes with the song and you did it BEAUTIFULLY
I have natural vibrato kinda similar to Carries (but not as on key or controlled!) And it can get annoying when its natural because it'd hard to "turn off" when your singing a song where you have to cut your line as soon as you've finished saying the words.
Crafterchick6797 I have the same problem of too much vibrato. I have to focus extremely hard to stop it on almost every word and even then it still slips past me. Weirdly, I used to be super proud of my vibrato, not many people have it as naturally. But as time went on people would tell me it was making me go off pitch or it just sounded terrible and they couldn't focus on anything else, it made me hate it. I've actually been trying to get rid of it for like a year now, it's so hard to do. And singing is so important to me, I feel uncomfortable singing in front of people again, just after I'd finally gotten comfortable.
The majority of the comments on this video make me extremely sad. I don't think Lin created this amazing show to make a show only for PoC, but instead to make a show that anyone could be in. Whether you're white, a person of color, male, female, and so on. Don't hate just because someone wants to sing a song they like.
Excluding people based on race is still excluding people based on race, no matter if your intentions are "good". I don't know what you mean by saying POC "deserve to have Hamilton". Are you trying to say that only POC can be in Hamilton? That only they can sing Hamilton songs in public? That white people liking Hamilton is cultural appropriation? Cuz that's the direction your thinking is headed. And I realize your comment is months old but it was too dumb to ignore.
think about it this way, if you wouldn't put on a white color purple, then you shouldn't do a white hamilton. this isn't in any relation to the video because obviously she's allowed to sing whatever she wants but I mean specifically in respect to an actual production. hamilton created musical theater roles specifically FOR people of color, there are plenty and I mean a boat load of musicals that already exist with white characters. go find them. leave hamilton alone. (Carrie I love you not saying covers shouldn't be allowed I repeat).
Abigail Oladapo In fairness Lin Manuel Miranda did not say "Hey look at this play I made especially for POC" he said "I wanted to tell the story of America back then by the people of America today. Which aren't just white. They're a mix of so many colours and ethnicities". THATS the answer he gave when he was asked why the founding fathers were black. He didn't say it was just for POC. He said he wanted to tell the story of the founding fathers by what people actually look like in America today. That does not mean white people cant be in the play because white people ARE in Hamilton. It simply means it's not an all white cast, it's real and relatable.
I never said that whites couldn't at all be in the cast, I agree with everything that you're saying here. The problem is that there are still people doing practically all white productions, in spite of what Lin Manuel intended because they think that because the original founding fathers were white, that they have a specific ownership over it that you wouldn't see with say, the color purple.
I finished this video immensely wanting to stand up and clap. You are amazing Carrie and I just wish that one day I'll have the chance to watch you perform live! ❤
imma just say that an understudy for Eliza in the actual show on, you know, Broadway, who played her a handful of times is white. y'all wanna call the whole show racist now or?
It wasn't supposed to be a character piece! I'm sort of worried now that everyone's watching this expecting my interpretation of Eliza when this is just a cover rather than a performance, the both of which I regard as two different things and would act both very differently! :S Thank you, though!
I think it's good that you've gotten into this piece to the point where people see it as a character piece! Really shows how much you can show your connection to a song and a concept simply so effortlessly! I loved it:)
by character piece i mean you really got into the story of it! I didn't see it as you playing Eliza, but you kind of have to get into her story to do this piece justice, which you did!!
Y'all realise Hamilton is meant to celebrate diversity in all people? That includes white people too. Anyone can play a character in Hamilton. That's the point of the musical guys, don't go and ruin it. Telling someone they can't play a character or sing a damn song because they're too "white" is just as bad and equally as racist as telling someone they're too dark to do the same. Lin would be absolutely disgusted at the backlash from this, and honestly so am I.
I agree. Actually Lin was okay with anyone playing any role, as long as they did it well. Its the new person in charge who said only non-whites could audition.
I didn't know the song before but I'm welling up that was vv beautiful Carrie, your voice is astounding, utterly brilliant, love all of your cover but this one was just amazing
Hearing this cover was what made me get into Hamilton (very late to the party I know) my sister had nagged me for months to listen to the soundtrack and after hearing this beautiful rendition I decided to listen to the cast album on Spotify....and haven't stopped since!!! So thank you Carrie for being my Segway into this beautiful piece of musical theatre
The thought has entered my head too! And seeing as you say Carrie and I are alike you might find it amusing that I was literally telling my friend I want to cover this song the other day, and I've started learning it on piano :)
so i'm one of the small minority i'm sure who hasn't listened to Hamilton through for reasons I won't get into here. this is my first experience with this song and #1 it's amazing and #2 Carrie sang it absolutely gorgeously.
i think my favourite thing about this cover is that it really showcases what an amazing actress you are. of course your voice is incredible, but not many people could capture eliza's pain as well as you just did. i am honestly spellbound and amazed by your talent x
I'm so glad you re-uploaded this Carrie!! It is a beautiful cover and also introduced me to the musical. Since then, I have been obsessed and have listened to the album repeatedly and made all my friends join the hype! So thank you :) xx
Carrie, the emotion in this song is incredibly raw. You put me through so much in those 3.5 minutes. Amazing. (Thanking youtube for the recommend 4 yrs later!)
Does that mean you can't sing a song that a man sings in a musical because you are not a man!? People come out with some very stupid things on the Internet. It is such a beautiful cover. Don't keep apologising for the things you do, when there is no need to. The majority of your audience support and appreciate what you do. Focus on that and enjoy every minute of what you do. X
Your voice is incredible. All hairs on my body are standing straight up and my eyes are flooding with tears! You tell the story so well that I feel it, even without being familiar with the script. Just absolutely magical!
Totally SHOULD play her. ❤❤❤❤ your voice suits this song so much. So beautiful❤❤❤❤ Equality will never be reached if we stop anyone from playing anyone when it doesn't affect the story.
As a person of 'colour' I think I speak for most who believe it is not about the person singing the song, but more the message behind the song and the passion within the song that is important. If that is not the case and I'm wrong then surely, myself as a singer cannot sing any song from Wicked because I'm not green, nor can I sing anything from West Side Story because I am not Hispanic. People are just trying to be difficult and Carrie, you did a wonderful job with this cover!
Rewatching this 3 years later after being so in love with the song and being heartbroken about never seeing it live and now I've seen Disney+ and my heart is so full - had a 6 hour roadtrip this weekend and my boyfriend and I listened to the soundtrack for the whole trip 💖 this is incredible and your acting is perfect - I love your take on it x
I don't get why people are so incredibly butthurt, I am a POC and I think Carrie's cover is a beautiful way of her to appreciate a strong song like that. And hating her for singing a song made for poc eventhough she's white is just reversed racism
There is definitely no need to apologize for covering this song. You did nothing wrong, love. People get so offended over nothing these days. You sang so beautifully.
Never heard this song before, so now for all intents and purposes you're the original singer in my brain and whoever sings it in Hamilton will be compared to you. Good luck to whoever that is...
Yeah I am a huge fan of both Hamilton and Carrie so I thought this would be so fantastic, and it was great, but wow it just solidified how ridiculously talented Philippa Soo is. Like Carrie is that incredible and yet it's just perfect for Pippa.
that was amazing, i've listened this song a million times now, but i teared up like i did the first time i heard it

OK I LOVE THIS AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD OR SEEN HAMILTON
You should listen to it- it's amazing!!
*sees hamilton, likes before watching*
and isnt disappointed
3:10
wow.
Same!!
Do you all think Eliza would approve of this? Not Philipa but Elizabeth Hamilton. She opened up the first orphanage in Washington DC for children. Not for only children of color. But for everyone, she didn't care about color, only for who you truly are. Now, would you be proud if she were to see this? [Although she can't]
best cover yet in my opinion
well, she is a musical actress who was in a leading broadway show :,)
Have you seen Maia Phillips cover?
This is more than I could have ever hoped for, my absolute favourite person covering my absolute favourite thing, ohhhh my goodness 😭
absolutely beautiful! I thought you got the raw emotion in the "you, you, you" part brilliantly especially, and that's my favourite bit.
I still don't understand them.
*glares* So much disappoint. -.-
Pete is so lucky to be able to hear this voice say to day around the house while Carrie is doing something and just singing 😱
Yes I am ^_^
OMG HOW OLD ARE YOU?! THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!
23. And thank you! :) xxx
Bekky D >0
how does like. the vibrato at the end of some phrases come so naturally? :( it sounds so great but i just. i cant do it. That was beyond fantastic by the way, you even provided the emotion that comes with the song and you did it BEAUTIFULLY
Natural vibrato comes when you're relaxed and comfortable using good technique. Don't focus too much on it by itself and it'll come. :)
haha, sometimes i get vibrato when i'm running out of breath at the end of a phrase. but carrie just has an incredible voice and control
I have natural vibrato kinda similar to Carries (but not as on key or controlled!)
And it can get annoying when its natural because it'd hard to "turn off" when your singing a song where you have to cut your line as soon as you've finished saying the words.
Hey Danny Lin says in his book that he will consider anyone for a role no matter shape size colour or gender.
I saw this in my notifications and my boyfriend wasn't sure if I was okay or not with my amount of excitement
Carrie if you read this, please can you look at my Twitter (aliciaspages) because me and my friends are trying to do something special this year!
It's been years and yet I still get chills re-watching this. What a voice!
imma just say that an understudy for Eliza in the actual show on, you know, Broadway, who played her a handful of times is white. y'all wanna call the whole show racist now or?
phillipa soo is chinese american
Jenna R Phillipa isn’t the understudy
A l e x a she isn’t talking about Phillipa, but there is white understudies for Hamilton.
@@jennamelaku Her race is white tho 🤔 how can someone be a POC if their white?
@@mar-ui2sr The comment said she wasn’t white, since she is Chinese American.
Oh my God, the look in your eyes as you said you hoped he would burn. Oh lord, it was so convincing.
because she went through something very similar to what this song is talking about, its convincing because its true
I don't know anything about Hamilton, but this is wonderful! Very well done
It's great! I don't know it very well but the soundtrack is phenomenal! xxx
I will have to listen to it. You are an amazing singer. I would love to see one of your shows but I'm in America.
"I am in america".... THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!! THE USA WANTS U
It's true! I'd love to see one of your shows, but am currently stuck in the US. Someday!
Can you do When He Sees Me from Waitress? I want more mixy belty songs from you!
I've been practicing this so YES!
***** thank you! Love this song so badly, you will do a great cover!
Yess!!! I think you'd be a great Dawn if Waitress ever went to the West End!
Yes pleaseee!
OH MY GOODNESS YAY!! That's my favourite song!!!
very cool to see you do a character piece. Well done getting into this one, Carrie! I saw the OB cast production and you've done Eliza justice
My favorite kind of music is hearing the motion. But u can also see it in her face. I love this. Glad I found u
Talent has no color. Music is not biased. Passion comes from within. Beautifully done!
I was so excited when I this in my sub box
Literally, I saw Hamilton and Carrie and freaked out
+Josie May oh hello there 😉 literally same x
Omg hey 💖 small world ey x
Oh. My. God. That was... I'd say "amazing", but that'd be an understatement. Well done!
Aww thank you!
You're very welcome! I tear up every time I listen to this song; your version is no exception to that.
CARRIE AND HAMILTON ARE MY TWO FAVOURITE THINGS
Y'all realise Hamilton is meant to celebrate diversity in all people? That includes white people too. Anyone can play a character in Hamilton. That's the point of the musical guys, don't go and ruin it. Telling someone they can't play a character or sing a damn song because they're too "white" is just as bad and equally as racist as telling someone they're too dark to do the same. Lin would be absolutely disgusted at the backlash from this, and honestly so am I.
Evan Kaspbrak well I agree but I'm the audition list most characters have POC but I agree that anyone can do covers
It's fine to cover the song no matter your ethnicity, but it _was_ specific that people of colour were casted for the roles.
I agree. Actually Lin was okay with anyone playing any role, as long as they did it well. Its the new person in charge who said only non-whites could audition.
Exactly Evan
👏 THANK 👏 YOU
I didn't know the song before but I'm welling up that was vv beautiful Carrie, your voice is astounding, utterly brilliant, love all of your cover but this one was just amazing
I almost made a truly pun and then applauded myself for it bc there's not long left to make it
It's truly an amazing song
Sarah Kesseler i like it!!
You don't realise how long I've been waiting for this.
this is all I needed in life
speechless. so beautiful.
Your voice is the kind id could listen to for hours, and I'd never get tired of it. I love you Carrie💕
Thank god I still have the link for this
It's live now! Not unlisted!
ItsWayPastMyBedTime yay!xxxx
Hearing this cover was what made me get into Hamilton (very late to the party I know) my sister had nagged me for months to listen to the soundtrack and after hearing this beautiful rendition I decided to listen to the cast album on Spotify....and haven't stopped since!!! So thank you Carrie for being my Segway into this beautiful piece of musical theatre
I love this song so much, I can't wait for Hamilton to come to the west end :)
YASSS THO HONESTLY ME
I want to fly there just to see it since it's impossible over here 😂
The thought has entered my head too! And seeing as you say Carrie and I are alike you might find it amusing that I was literally telling my friend I want to cover this song the other day, and I've started learning it on piano :)
I would love that omfg
That song is the best one to cover 😌💕💕💕
so i'm one of the small minority i'm sure who hasn't listened to Hamilton through for reasons I won't get into here. this is my first experience with this song and #1 it's amazing and #2 Carrie sang it absolutely gorgeously.
Please listen to it - its so good
Leah Grace You're not telling me something everyone else hasn't haha. I'm going to see it in Chicago in January and will listen to it right before.
You have such a beautiful voice, Carrie!
i think my favourite thing about this cover is that it really showcases what an amazing actress you are. of course your voice is incredible, but not many people could capture eliza's pain as well as you just did. i am honestly spellbound and amazed by your talent x
I listened to multiple covers of this song and this is by far the best out there. Very well done.
Omg I love this so much
Also: I haven't seen one person complain about her covering this. I even switched the comment order.
And now she’s on Heathers in London, casted as the main role, Veronica. Haters can all shut up!
Carrie, don't listen to all the hate. This was such a beautiful cover and I will now listen to it for the next week on repeat.
Absolutely beautiful !! You have so much control and color in your voice which makes it HEAVEN to listen to!
I absolutely adore this. Please never stop singing & continue the amazing work.
I've followed you on UA-cam since like 2012 or so and goddamn if you didn't capture parts of your past in this song. Goosebumps.
Carrie you have the most amazing voice. Every time I am blown away by your talent. That last note 😍😍 please give me your voicedeeeeeeee
Also please do a cover of Slipping through my fingers!!!
Thank you!
+ItsWayPastMyBedTime no thank you Carrie 😱😘😘😘
+ItsWayPastMyBedTime 3rd time watching this 😍 never really got into Hamilton, but you've made me obsessed with this song !!!
your control is incredible! very beautiful job in holding that note in the climax, it looked effortless
This was gorgeous and sooooooo sad. I got chills and then teared up. You could TOTALLY play Eliza.
K guys, don't dare cover defying gravity unless you are green
+
Meg X 😂
Meg X 😂
Meg X it’s ok I dyed my skin green so I can cover it
Ilana Friedman omg, youre doing green face? How racist
I'm so glad you re-uploaded this Carrie!! It is a beautiful cover and also introduced me to the musical. Since then, I have been obsessed and have listened to the album repeatedly and made all my friends join the hype! So thank you :) xx
My heart raced at 2:10. Incredible. Splendid. words can't describe
please do more Hamilton covers! ^-^ (preferably helpless or satisfied)
yes yes yes yes!
How did I miss this? Stunning.
I'm glad to see this back on your channel. Thank you Carrie. I love listening to you.
YES YOU JUST DID THAT!
Also, Carrie...How did you get permission from Musical Remedy? I would love to do some high quality like this for my channel as well! Thank you xoxo
I just commented underneath asking if I could use it and credit them in the description and they came back within 24 hours and said absolutely! xxx
Thank you so much Carrie!
HAMILTON AND CARRIE HOPE FLETCHER WHAT IS THIS
to answer my own question, /amazing/. It is aMAZing.
Love love love
I'm so obsessed with Hamilton I couldn't have clicked on this video faster
Carrie, the emotion in this song is incredibly raw. You put me through so much in those 3.5 minutes. Amazing. (Thanking youtube for the recommend 4 yrs later!)
Im so happy this is back! Such a beautiful cover and is definitely going to bless anyone who hears it
People are flipping about her singing a song and not being a person of “colour”, but you GO gurl! You sing what song u wanna sing!
YES YOU DID IT I LOVE IT YOURE PERFECR
PERFECT*
Your voice is incredible. All hairs on my body are standing straight up and my eyes are flooding with tears! You tell the story so well that I feel it, even without being familiar with the script. Just absolutely magical!
This is by far the best cover of this song I have heard, I get chills everytime.
Totally SHOULD play her. ❤❤❤❤ your voice suits this song so much. So beautiful❤❤❤❤
Equality will never be reached if we stop anyone from playing anyone when it doesn't affect the story.
2:12 tho, that whole part gives my chest shivers and makes my stomach flip, how you do that I will never know.
I keep listening to this. flawless.
I don't get why people are so incredibly butthurt, I am a POC and I think Carrie's cover is a beautiful way of her to appreciate a strong song like that. And hating her for singing a song made for poc eventhough she's white is just reversed racism
Scara Baei not reverse racism. Just racism
Rowena Ravenclaw ok, yea you're right 😅
AAAA I SAW THIS ON TWITTER AND CAME STRAIGHT HERE
well after bake off obvs
Lol same
There is definitely no need to apologize for covering this song. You did nothing wrong, love. People get so offended over nothing these days. You sang so beautifully.
this is such a beautiful colour im honestly in awe at both your acting and your vocal range. your talent is remarkable.
I keep coming back to this because I'm in awe of Carrie's talents and voice 😱💖
Never heard this song before, so now for all intents and purposes you're the original singer in my brain and whoever sings it in Hamilton will be compared to you. Good luck to whoever that is...
Pippa Soo, who (no offence to Carrie) sings it miles better, not because Carrie is bad but because she is one of THE most talented singers out there x
Yeah I am a huge fan of both Hamilton and Carrie so I thought this would be so fantastic, and it was great, but wow it just solidified how ridiculously talented Philippa Soo is. Like Carrie is that incredible and yet it's just perfect for Pippa.
+Haley Wink agreed
Good luck to you... Try not to fall in love with Pippa's lovely voice.
Jessica Prado Haha thanks
Feels like I've been waiting my whole life for this
Carrie!! Omg!! You + Hamilton = Heaven
I do rate this rendition. A perfect balance of emotion, bitterness, innocence and fury. Trying to learn piano and vocals... Getting there...
I love the passion she puts into her performances.
