I recently got into Dominion via the digital app versions, and it's been really fun to finally get into this storied, influential game. I decided to go in on one expansion, and because I like the nautical, tropical themeing, I went for Seaside. It has been very rewarding! It's a perfect first expansion, and I agree with Tom that Duration cards are so much fun! I've been going around to a bunch of Dice Tower reviews for Dominion expansions to see where to go next. I have my eye on the recent Plunder expansion to have a full Seaside+Plunder "ports and pirates" game, and I'm also very interested in Adventures, Allies, Menagerie, and possibly Hinterlands, thanks to both their general themes and how highly Tom seems to consistently speak of them. I know he really likes Prosperity as well, and I'll definitely give that a look because we seem to agree on a lot of what makes Dominion cool, but it's lower on the interest tier list from the ones I mentioned. I just wanted to thank you for consistently putting out so many reviews for so long, because being able to see the highlights of every Dominion expansion and see the cards laid out helps making my decisions so much easier! I am definitely going to be buying a physical copy of Dominion and Seaside as soon as I'm able, because I think at the very least that makes for a very simple but very fun box to put together.
Reviewers typically downplay Intrigue, but it's a no brainer expansion you need to have. It's basically an extension of the base game. Prosperity is very good too, without changing the mechanics of the base game. I think those two are a must have before moving on to the others.
I'm surprised that they never changed the rules of the duration cards by making them add a counter. Everyone I knew who played Seaside has had trouble remembering which one of their duration cards is due to be discarded at the end of turn.
It's really not that hard. You play the durations normally the first time, then leave them in play in clean-up. Next turn, you simply play your new cards below them after resolving them, then clean up the line of duration cards from above and leave the durations from below (moving them up), and so on.
So if I don’t have the expansion I should buy the 2nd edition correct? Too many choices, don’t know which to get ( or that I see all of them, I only see like 4 available here)
The designer of this game made a guide to all the 15 expansions released so far. For some reason if I post the link my comment will disappear so I’ll just say to find it, type “guide to 15 dominion expansions” and you should find it. It might help you.
Basically, the older expansions have 2nd editions while the newest ones were released with the up to date art work and rule set so they only need one edition. I would buy Allies, Base, and Seaside
Pirate ship can be a fun card, but it is almost not worth buying it in a 2 player game. In a 4 player game it is so much stronger that it would be foolish not to buy several. I understand getting rid of it.
Ambassador is one of the most powerful attack cards in the game. The only reason it is being removed is because it's OP. It is almost always a must buy in any game
A great upgrade for Dominion. Embassador and Ghost Ship were so strong attacks. Glad they are gone. This is even more true in the 2nd Edition for Prosperity. How to counter them? Buy them yourself! Not very interesting, imho. I always liked Navigator and Explorer but the new cards are better or let's call them more playable. Just compare Explorer and Pirate. Pirate can get you Gold for sure or any other cheaper treasure...ok ... it's delayed, but she has a nice reaction
Can't wait for the dark ages 2nd ed, I really like theming of that set and I hope the new art fits in well. I also wonder if dark ages will be the last 2nd ed. I'm not sure if adventures needs it but getting a new traveler or reserve cards would be neat.
I hope not. It made sense for the base game and Intrigue, but growing a bit tired of this need to have every set be "perfect". I'd rather see Alchemy reworked into a full size expansion, personally.
@@BoardGamesBricksHobbies Alchemy definitely needs something. But it seems the designer wants to give up it on it, so the chances of a reworking or sequel are slim.
We played them. We haven't reviewed a game yet that we haven't played, even when I know exactly how I'm going to feel about a game from reading the rules, haha.
I know ambassador looks boring or weak, but it was one of the strongest attack cards and it warped games.
I tap my duration cards (turn sideways) that need to be discarded, easy fix for remembering which ones stay out

I loved Pirate Ship and Explorer. Glad to see more duration cards though. Will definitely have to pick up the upgrade pack. Thanks for the coverage!

Tom looked like he was so ready for the review to over haha hilarious
I'll never throw away the removed cards that are missing from these new sets.
Definitely asking for this stocking stuffer
Pirate is actually better than you thought - you can use the reaction whenever any player gains a card so you can chain together your own pirates.
One of the things about Pirate ship is that it incentivizes you to trash opponents' copper to make your pirate ship better. XD

Please rank all of dominion!!
Can people share their top 3 expansions please, I’m getting confused. And do all of them have 2nd edition?
Not all of them. The base box, Intrigue, Seaside, Prosperity, and Hinterlands so far are the only dominion sets with 2nd editions.

Please do a top 100 dominion cards Tom! Do it!!

did yall play this or just look over the cards? regardless, appreciate these reviews for the updated 2nd editions and will add this to my wishlist.

I want those 9 new cards.
Seal of excellent excellence!
Pirate ship and ghost ship gone? 😢 also explorer is so good
Explorer is really bad lol
