I’d say the sketchiest part of LA right now is actually downtown LA with all the homeless, drugs, mental illness, and overall unpredictability of walking around down there. Compton, East LA, Watts, and Ingelwood…if you mind your own business you’ll be fine
Unless there are substantially fewer blacks there, it's still a very dangerous place. There's only one way to make a neighborhood less violent that that's by changing the demographics.

My aunt and uncle used to live 2 blocks from here in the "safe" part of the area. When I went to visit in the late 90's you would hear gunshots every weekend. Every once in a while I was there Friday, Saturday and Sunday. At least one night, each weekend you would here someone unloading a clip between midnight and 3 AM. Imagine being a kid and being waken up by gun shots. One time I heard a few gunshots at 1 AM. Then at 4 AM the same night multiple guns. It must have been people coming back for revenge.

Two, west coast cities are very spread out and it’s not always easy to just walk to a corner store and post up. Three, people tend to drive a lot more so that’s why sidewalks don’t look as crowded.

@@drippyent6872 I don’t think so, in the late 80s and early 90s there were way more kids outside in LA rocking their colors and flags and everything, that’s what partly why the murder rate was so high. I think in general (not just in SoCal) people stay inside more these days because of smart phones, streaming, video games, etc. It’s easier now to keep yourself entertained at home. Back in the 90s all you had was TV and a maybe a Nintendo/Sega if you were lucky.
Looks much nicer than where I live in Peru. I know they cleaned up Compton a lot. I grew up in San Diego but have lived in the Central Andes of Peru. I have go pro at night on my motorbike.
I'm from South Phoenix and also grew up in South Tucson. Both of them are no joke! I'm living in Lancaster, CA right now and feel more comfortable when I visit Long Beach and Compton than Tucson and Phoenix

Let's just say as a 21 year old 5'4 women, it was the most reckless thing i couldve done and will never do again. It's gotten so much worse :/
