This scene was so well acted. Bottom line...there's a time and place for everything. To get into an indepth discussion on race, prejudice, etc in the middle of the grocery store was just not right time or place. All he asked for was a night off. Healthy relationship requires both individuals being willing to compromise.
It’s not always about he subject matter. What was frustrating down to the core was that she was bringing up an issue that was affecting her and wanting to vent, but he shut her down. It never feels good to have a partner shallowly ask you what’s wrong and when you try to open up they tell you no. Lol they definitely ain’t have to do that allat in the store tho 😂
She wasn't getting into an in depth conversation. She was just expressing her feelings and he wasn't ready to listen.
@ChelzLovesPeanut I wouldn't say that he shut her down. We all experience times of frustration everyone is human no matter what color. He just wanted to have a quiet evening without the discussion and I don't get him wrong.
Timing is everything. Not all topics can be discussed at anytime
You don't have a conversation like that in the supermarket! Gosh! Wait til you get home!
Lmao
Ohh yeah you have.
Exactly. I was thinking that the whole time I'm like that's a really sensitive subject that shouldn't be discussed around strangers let alone in a grocery store with people walking by and having to hear it while they're shopping. I was cringing watching this scene like woman if you would just be quiet and wait to have that conversation in the car or something......I felt bad for the boyfriend and I think he had a few valid points. He obviously knew it wasn't the right time or place to be conversating about racial discrimination
@@alyssasuguitan3225 You mean conversing.
@@erosr1 Really? You trolling with that? Conversating is fine to use in lieu of conversing...it's just less formal.
i understand both sides. no black person wants to be in a room and be reminded that they’re black every day, regardless of their accomplishments. she wants him to understand that it’s not something that can just be turned off. but if you don’t want to be reminded everyday that you’re black, what makes you think he wants to be reminded every day that he’s white? especially if you chose to be in this partnership
Yes. You are right
This has been one of my long time favorite romantic films, and yes it is a love story film despite this scene suggesting otherwise. The subtext of the film was that they’re an interracial couple and have different perspectives due to the color of their skin, but they love each other greatly. They’re also both good looking people.
Mine, too. That, Guess Who, Jungle Fever, Save the Last Dance, and Romeo Must Die.
Both sides were justified to me. None of them premeditated to have a disagreement that day. He was in a bad space and so was she. I thought it was so thoughtful of him, to come and make up and explain and apologize, I find that very attractive in a man. I understood her and I also understood him
You white
I get what she’s saying but WHY AT TH E GROCERY STORe like fr you can go home and have a proper talk or put moment. I’m black so I get it tho
Exactly
😹😹😹😹
I like how this scene shows both sides of the story but how deep down they both love eachother beyond skin colour
A lot of folks are commenting that he should have just listened... I agree, actually. But remember, he DID apologize later.
"You needed me to listen, not be another critic."
Sad that this broke them up, but they got back together. Ultimately Brian was the one guy she never had to perform for... She could be herself with him He accepted the real HER.
Great movie. Excellent script.
"I'll never be on the right side of the WAR going on in your head!"
Exactly! 💯💯💯
Lord... it's not too much to say that "not tonight" is like we will talk about this again but lets just be us tonight.
I just don't understand what exactly she wants him to say here
She wants him to listen. She's experiencing problems and he is being insensitive.
@@abigailwilliams8889 NO, he had a bad day too! His patience was tapped out like hers was!
That's it. Men (myself included) are always looking for solutions and the right thing to say, when women just need us to stop talking and hear them out. It's not always easy being the listener, especially when you've had a bad day yourself, but that's what it takes to be in a succesful relationship.
@@Verradonairun He was tired and didn't want to hear her usual race rant which he doesn't really agree with.
There are often different realities for us as black people at work in society, he may not understand but he should listen
He LITERALLY asked if they could just NOT talk about it TONIGHT! That's it! Tonight! Not at all or ever! Lorde!!!
The point was that if he was black, he wouldn't have asked for a night off. He would've understood.
Nah, that's not defensible
@@dinahwestallen That’s your opinion.
i know trying to paint him as a guy who doesnt listen is crazy .he was tired that night she couldve understood and let it go
Lmao the dude in line was looking at him like "my brotha stop talking" that side eye is so funny to me
black or white does not matter all the matters is how we treat each other but we need treat each other with respect and be nice to each other.
...sounds like something a white person has the 'audacity' to say
@@bacilluscereus1299 Yeah...but 'The Man' was never Black!
Agreed
I totally agree!
She can’t escape her pain, he can and wants to take the exit for the night. What is left to say?
oufff the expression of the man in the yellow shirt is lit.
The expressions on the brother's faces in the store were cracking me up! I've seen those looks before when out with my husband.
both are good looking
Hey it's the guy from "The Mentalist", adorable.
Yup, Simon Baker......aka....Patrick Jane
All he asked was to not talk about it then. Not that he didn't want to hear it.
That's the problem with society, nobody brave enough to address the bullshit that effect people mentality. The issue is identity crisis.
I feel her pain deeply, but I feel his emotional bandwidth too
Black people, don't get a night off though lol
@@amyj.4992Yeah you do. You don't work 7 days a week thus your not in public either.
I would stop at “not right now.” Okay baby❤
They couldn’t wait till they are at home for this discussion.
She’s too intense..
☹️👍🏻 I like the fact that he points out to her that she’s a particular person that makes more money than anyone black or white and definitely more than him
I like the fact that she countered with the reality of still being treated as inferior and incompetent despite all of that, because she's a Black woman.
@@firstnamelastname4427I like the fact that she wouldn't be working a job like that if she were incompetent and so what matters is what her boss feels about her and no one else. I think poor white people would trade places with her in a heartbeat (to include being treated with prejudice).
I laugh when he says can we put on hold the “white boys, white folks, brothers, sisters, all of them”. It cracks me up every time.
He's Incredible in that scene
I can understand her frustration as woman of color but it's not good to accuse her white boyfriend of not understand and painting him the bad guy. In an interracial relationship, the other side needs to be heard and respected too.
Nope, he needs to understand and support her first and foremost.
@@MaySins False there's no point of being in a relationship if you can't talk to one another
This actually looks damn interesting.
There is also the problem between men and women. Women want men to listen to their grievances without judgment. Just listen. Men are taught to try and fix problems. This can come off as mansplaining to women, which infuriates them even more. Men (and women) need to learn how to listen better. One trick I recently learned is to say, "I don't understand, but I want to." Next, shut your mouth and try to understand and empathize.
An ex told me once "You don't listen. You just wait your turn to talk". I took that under advisement and remember it often
BINGO!!!!!
Anybody know that song playing at the end of this scene?
She was being annoying here
Dónde puedo ver esta película completa, en español o con traducción?
I see her point thier worlds are different as a black person you go through hardships white ppl don t face
He's supposed to be Dr David Banner a.k.a Incredible Hulk just look at him do you guys agree with me? Hey Avengers hope you'll hear me.
Brotha might as well said tried to tell ya sis😆
Sista could say the same thing when brotha is being falsely accused, but let's not go there shall we.
That really sad
Movie was a classic
I love this scene!
1) It's funny how she doesn't count her blessings and when he brings it up to her, she turns it back on him like he "Doesn't' want to hear it".
2) Everybody has frustrations, so I don't see how her problems trumped his nor was it important enough to start a fight at the grocery store.
3) If she wanted to talk about black problems, she could have called a black friend. It isn't like she is going to talk about female problems with him either. That's what girlfriends are for.
4) The irony of this scene is that while it is good to put light on a problem she is having as a black woman, that all got lost on him by her way of handling it.
She should’ve called her black friend!? Exactly why I am not friends with white people.
@@TheDecadentDesire You're not friends with white people because you are prejudice. There is nothing complicated about it.
@@gideondavid30 So what you're saying is a white partner or even a white friend should never hear about the problems that their black partner/friend are going through? I can understand not at a damn grocery, but not at all?
@@LifeIsNotorious
We should be sympathetic to what people are going through. Period! Regardless of whether we think their problems are real or imagined....or exaggerated.

I agree with other people in the comments. It's not the time or place. He had a bad day as well. Just show some consideration. She should get a therapist to talk about all the racial stuff that bothers her. Why can't she just enjoy spending time with her man?

She wants him to...listen?
@@janeryan2709 but he was listing the whole movie. She was treating him like ish the whole time. His patience ran out and I don’t blame him. I’m black as you can see, but she was doing too much in my opinion. He just wanted one day and she made a big deal about it for nothing. You don’t have to discuss race all the time. She was just looking for reasons to go off.

Seems like you posted this comment weeks before the worldwide protests and riots over racism hit the fan in a major way. Maybe that might’ve woken you up to the realities of what Black people still face daily. I’m assuming you’re not Black from very white comment. And I’m not Black either, but many of my friends are so I’m aware of what they endure that I don’t.

One cant very well talk with prejudice against another race when you are in a relationship with that other race. Someone could only take so much of that.
The only way we're going to end racism is to simply stop talking about it. Because the current social norms and identity politics are doing nothing but tear us apart.

I have no desire to watch this film. I ignore race movies. I believe on some level they are produced to juice up the different colors against others. No one cares who you date. This character in this film is a drama queen. Really annoying.
It's actually a very good movie, just give it a chance. She was very miserable and uptight at the beginning, facing all sorts of pressure from being undervalued at her job, dealing with keeping up a pristine image for her overbearing mother, and her being single and sexually repressed. Brian was not what she was used to at all. He came into her life like a wrecking ball, knocking down all of her walls. Yes, she was very uncomfortable but he really broke through her tough exterior. He was kind and patient with her because he could see and accept her for the beautiful person she was, and added joy and color to her life. The love story that unfolded was amazing.
