That’s very respectable for $1700. The M1 iMac will make an excellent machine for someone who likes the style and needs its capabilities and no more. Excellent Zoom/webex, great for photo editing, FaceTime, etc.

Have you seen the 8 core i7 vs the 10 core i9 comparison? The one where they compare 8 core i7 vs 10 core i9 chip sets - running on machines with differing amounts or RAM and different graphics cards with different amounts of VRAM?

As always great video. I was in Apple store today looking at the 24 in the blue and in the silver. They were both stunning products. These machines represent an incredible value overall and I am inclined to just get this over the larger iMac coming but I think prudent to see what the other looks like in terms of size and whether it offers a matte display option. But I looked at the 24 next to a 27 and it was impressive.
Could you please make a video of connecting two external monitors with this iMac 24 inch? That is my dream setup but I'm not sure if using a dock would affect the performance. Please make it as soon as possible.

Hi max I was just wondering if the m1 Macs get slower over time as these chips are based on the same architecture as the iphone as iphones get slower over time. Can u just make a video about it. I am pretty sure that it will be one of the most viewed 'max tech' videos ever.
Phone SoCs don't get slower over time. You run more advanced software on it which slows down the experience. You use newer devices which warps your perception of speed. Batteries degrade which limit the maximum speed of a phone SoC. This won't get "slow over time" any more than a desktop PC would.
@@tim3172 And what if Apple intentionally slows you down by releasing updates that make your machine crash and 3rd party apps behave weirdlyon them.I think Apple wants to maximise profit and we will have to buy a Desktop every 3 years just like the Iphone. The Intels are much more sturdy.we still dont know how m1x chips will behave with multple third party apps for professional users.
Max, I have the 2020 intel i9 IMac 5700xt Radeon with 64gb of ram, would you say that is faster than the 24inch Silicon iMac? I do a lot of color grading and editing so I’d be interested to see a comparison with the 2020 i9 you have with the new 24inch iMac
Performance per watt it is way more efficient and stronger. Even though the M1 handles easily photo and video editing, yet in some cases the GPU of the 27 inch still beats the M1 processor, but won't be as powerful as the M1X for your type of usage.
@@carholic-sz3qv exactly. But look at the cost-to-performance ratio. :) In 2020-2021, we're getting Macs that can handle almost everything. But technology keeps improving every month. Especially with Apple's transition.
@@ryanhaddad6815 yeah but unfortunately it cannot handle almost everything, intel macs with larger RAMs and storage and addidional cards can work for days straight. i dont know how the SSDs in the m1 macs are going to last since they are in constant use.

It is. However, for optimal and highest-end performance, waiting for the M1x chip on either upcoming iMac or Macbook Pro if you have both time and money is advised for complex 3D animations and VFX.
It's not a workstation, it's positioned as an entry-level computer. Those apps should be making good use of all cores and may not be updated to run on arm instead of x86. So it certainly will be the case in some workflows that the more expensive intel imac pro will pull ahead. The combined cpu/gpu ram makes it more efficient, but if your effects app is writing renders to the ram, that will fill up super quickly. The screen is amazing for detailed graphics work, that's for sure, and while it has more power than the vast majority of people buying it will need. The ports on the cheapest model will be limiting for extra monitors, storage, etc
6:06 but the old method had the advantage of being replaceable with any standard PC power cable. Now if this power cable breaks, you’re SOL unless you pony up for an apple replacement. That’s my biggest complaint with this generation iMac
Yeah I don’t see this new connector as an advantage. It’s nice for a laptop, but for a desktop? You’re not going to trip over a chord behind your desk, the magnetic connection is pointless there. Also I really dislike that there is a separate power brick taking up desk space too.
It is adapted to the “work at home” situation, with the magnetic connection, longer cable, lighter weight, Ethernet in the brick and better looking back. It’s very easy to put it on the diner table. The only thing missing is a built in battery.
Hoping someone can give their opinion on my situation: I'm struggling to decide between the 27" and the M1 24" shown in this video. I've watched multiple vids, including this one, so I mostly know their pros and cons. However when it comes to the gaming aspect, all this techy speak still makes me a bit confused. Will the M1 24" at 16GB still preform well for gaming? Or would the best option to be purchase the 27" with 8GB (all that's available) and upgrade it on my own? Gaming will not be the main use of whatever one I purchase, was just looking as an option (as I am mainly a console gamer. Main purpose is basically just writing and internet browsing)
It is so cool to see Vadim such exited by this computer ! From 1998 to 2006 i remember (but I maybe wrong) all imac where white (even with colors for the G3 model) but I don’t know if the white face/borders create such drama at the time. If you where there then, did people complained about the white color or white bezels as many seems today ?
My first Mac was an Apple IIE, 1985. We didn’t complain about the white borders because there wasn’t anything to compare them to. Not until the black came out. The black is better.
I installed an Avid (media composer) edit suite in Dublin in the mid nineties ... it was a Quadra 950 with beige monitors ... a film editor took one look at the colour of the machine and dismissed it in an instant by calling it a word processor ... ouch ...
Thanks for the Apple promotional video! I don't understand the big hype about the new 24" iMac. It's a small entry-level iMac and unfortunately has very few USB inputs and especially no SD card reader. For a stationary computer, these shortcomings are very serious, so the bright colors don't really help. The screen only has 60Hz (old and cheap technology), no 120Hz and there is no matt glass. The M1 is very well suited for a laptop as it consumes little power. But neither for a Mac Mini nor for an iMac is the M1 designed. The Mac Mini and an iMac are plugged into the wall socket. The big weakness is noticeable in both, it lacks a dedicated graphics card and expandability of the working memory beyond the currently available 16 GB. Overall, I can therefore not recommend buying one, it is a step backwards in my opinion!
Which one would be better for a graphic designer? I would of for the new M1 one but 16gb of RAM scares me when I can get the 27 with 64gb of RAM. Please help!

So it’s clear that the M1 is amazing, but it’s clearly not perfectly scaled up to desktops as we would like it to be, it will be interesting how all of this evolves in the future
Here it is! All glorious with that beatiful colored chin and White bezels.
Remembering some people requesting a thin black box , basically a monitor, just a week ago.
This is beautiful
🤢
Okay, this is it. The max tech review and comparison of iMac. I will watch this with my MacBook screen, not a phone on toilet.
The older one looks sooooo much better, the new one looks like something I’d give my 7 year old
I wish Apple would give the iMac similar to the QLED 950TS Bezels size
Nope, in real life it looks clean asf
I’m assuming all of you own the new imac
@NintendoSwitch Guy I own a 5600m MacBook that would blow these desktops out of this world.
@NintendoSwitch Guy yeah well give me something your Mac can do that mine cant
2 reasons why I’m sticking with 24 inch
1. It’s colorful! 🌈Gives it that cute nice pastel shade 🌸
And 2. It’ll fit on my desk since it’s small. Heck I’d the get the big one but my desk is small...
I wonder if the touch id magic keyboard works on the ipad and the m1 macs
Am I the only one wishing the dark blue was on the bits you spend most of the time looking at?
Light colors are easier on the eyes and look better with the bezels. Apple did the research.
As a content creator, whether video or photo or similar colour work, you really don’t want bright colours around the screen. So no. But it is clearly designed to be viewed from behind, not just put into a dark corner.
Get a second one for your friend or coworker. 😆
@@user-lp2nz7vq6b In the video world - the brightest thing in the room should be the monitor ... so it really depends on what you use it for ...
The inside of the connector is blue but the surface of the mouse is white. What kind of priorities are those?
That’s very respectable for $1700. The M1 iMac will make an excellent machine for someone who likes the style and needs its capabilities and no more. Excellent Zoom/webex, great for photo editing, FaceTime, etc.
You were using a different os on the two models - macOS Big Sur 11.3 on the 24" M1 iMac and macOS Catalina 10.15.7 on the 27" Intel iMac. Would this make a difference anywhere, e.g. the browser test? Did you do any comparisons using the same version of OS on both?
Have you seen the 8 core i7 vs the 10 core i9 comparison? The one where they compare 8 core i7 vs 10 core i9 chip sets - running on machines with differing amounts or RAM and different graphics cards with different amounts of VRAM?
Having never owned a Mac before but now wanting to get into it because of M1 hype. I have now concluded that I wished they'd made an older style iMac as it's swan song like they did with the air, pro, mini. I'd just like that style with M1
Doesn’t make sense to use an old design, though.
@@user-lp2nz7vq6b, but it makes even less sense to use new, since nothing people complained about, like chin or bezels, was fixed, and visually it looks like it's from 2005
tbh, u can get a m1 mac mini, with a monitor a windows all in one, and both will be better than the imac [unless ur video editing]
"unfortunately we don't have the 21.5" imax, we never had that because it sucked"😭😂😂😂
I honestly love your honest reviews but kinda feel M1 is promoted more by you than apple itself..😅😅😅😅
Bruh, he accepted every ‘percieved flaw’ the M1 iMac has. He pointed out that the missing Apple logo looked weird, the Speakers weren’t loud enough, the CPU and GPU performance did not match the biggers iMacs [of course how can they?] etc etc. If this is not unbiased then I don’t know what is.
Actually he got too attracted to M1 Machines like myself 😂😂
🎯 that's what I was complaining about.... He is just sounding like Apple Sales man convincing us to switch to M1 at any cost. LOL.
@@lokesh0000006 ikr
@@lokesh0000006 u think like that actually

If he’s wrong you may blame but if he’s right u must shut your mouth 🤫
I think the IMAC 27” 2020 is the best deal quality price, you get the chance to upgrade the RAM, the I5, or I7 will work very well because you don’t need to care much about overheating or power consumption on such big desktop, the AMD graphics is on another level especially the 5700 16gb XT, and the T2 chip, the already good screen with true tone and those nice speakers and the 1080P camera, black bezels..run some real engineering software on Microsoft bootcamp..ok i am biased, but i own a 2020 intel macbook air and i think the M1 M-air is much better…it’s a completely different story when it comes to the IMacs though.
So… how’s the black market doing with coloured Apple logo stickers? Must be like football card collecting for some people!
Thank you, I've been waiting for this comparation brother. 😁
Also, looking forward for your video comparation of the new iPad Pro 2021 vs 2020.
Me too ✌️this video comparison is better than other channel.
Mines was delivered yesterday...still haven’t unboxed yet!
No larger model yet haha
I would still go with the 27inch iMac Pro because it's got more value and the convenience of adding more ram
you mean the regular 27inch imac, which has user replaceable RAM. The Imac PRO sadly does NOT have that.
How to make the 2021 iMac better, just put a apple sticker in the middle of the bezel
Could you please make a video of connecting two external monitors with this iMac 24 inch? That is my dream setup but I'm not sure if using a dock would affect the performance. Please make it as soon as possible.
The “useless” eject key is a very commonly used key if you shortcut to turn off your Mac; Cmd + Opt + Alt + Eject = shutdown computer. I use it all the time. Hope that they have considered this….
IMO, design of the iMac 27 keeps on being way more beautiful than the newer iMac 24 M1
The Eject key isn’t totally useless. In the before WFH time I’d use Control-Shift-Media Eject as the quick way to put the display to sleep.
The white bezels are starting to grow on me.... I just knew this was gonna happen... wish i can see it in person though to make a purchase decision. If I had black bezels not doubt I would be getting this.
lol you have a girl name 😂
@@TouristAarchie yeah it's because I am a girl. I'm Lesbian and have my hair short and like to lift heavy weights. What's the problem with that? And I kickbox for workouts too. Don't judge a person by the book.

Its pretty deceiving that Apple is sending Magic trackpad in Reviewers units. I thought that the trackpad was also included with the package, but looking at retails units, it doesn't look like that case.
@@andreas.r.hoffmann just checked. No bro, it’s not there. Just the mouse and keyboard.

Trackpad all the way. I actually use the wireless mouse with AA battery so that I can always use it. It’s baffling that I have to write such a sentence.
When it comes to port you can add a dongle on one of the USBC ports. If you don’t want the dongle hanging off you can use double sided tape and tape it to the back.
I'm using an M1 Mac Mini with Final Cut Pro for video. My M1 is light years ahead of my previous system (i7, 32GB Macbook Pro). The 16GB M1 cost $1800 (Australian), the MBP cost over $6600.
Remember these synthetic benchmarks are not real life.
Wow side by side the original iMac looks soooooooo much better than the new one.
Which one is for gaming and school work?
Not really a fair comparison as the 24" iMac replaces the 21.5" iMac.
The upcoming iMac Pro will be replacing the 27" iMac Pro.
how often are you unplugging the power from behind the imac ?, its meant to be stationary.
I must say the lack of eject key is a pretty big loss for me - I use it every day to turn off my Mac with a keyboard shortcut (ctrl+opt+cmd+eject). That's why I'm still on A1048 keyboard 😅
Doesn't the 27" 2020 iMac have a 1080p webcam?
Yes, it, 1080
Thanks for your always great reviews, you guys are my most trusted source regarding fcpx performance on macs! May I suggest a special test for your upcoming iMac 2021 tests: Does the new iPad Pro 12,9 support full HDR range and brightness when used via sidecar as viewer together with Final Cut Pro X on the new iMac 24? I want to shoot my private vaccation movies with iPhone 12 Dolby Vision and interested if such a setup will let me see the full dynamic range?
This new design its aswsome and now I really want one!! The only thing is, the iMac Pro speakers literally gave me chills due to their volume and bass drop coming from a _computer._ It was _incredible._ I might have to get one of those too lol!
Excellent video. I have a important question. The new keyboard work properly with a old Imac?
They should’ve added an apple symbol to chin that comes on once u power on the computer
They should've just had a corresponding chrome colored logo
Imagine turning it on at 3AM and the logo flashbangs you:D
Which one would u recommend for video game play?
I was waiting for this comparison. I am planning to replace my 2015 iMac 27 inch but don’t know if the new 24 inch would be big enough replacement.
wait for 30" imac
15:03 chart title doesnt make sense is this the metal test?
please do a comparison between the 24 inch iMac and the 21.5 inch iMac and compare the speakers. I have the 4k 21.5 inch and I think the speakers are better Than the 24 inch but, I havant heard them together so please do a vid comparing them. Thanks -Michael
The old 27 iMac design was a beautiful silhouette.
Which application you use for all the tests ? I like to download
You got new song for the speaker test Max Tech! Good 👍!
Song name actually
I just ordered a 27inch intel imac decked out. Did I make a mistake not waiting for the next m1 iMac?
definitely
Hi max I was just wondering if the m1 Macs get slower over time as these chips are based on the same architecture as the iphone as iphones get slower over time. Can u just make a video about it. I am pretty sure that it will be one of the most viewed 'max tech' videos ever.
Phone SoCs don't get slower over time.
You run more advanced software on it which slows down the experience.
You use newer devices which warps your perception of speed.
Batteries degrade which limit the maximum speed of a phone SoC.
This won't get "slow over time" any more than a desktop PC would.
@@tim3172 I don't think so. I want to know the answer from either max, 'tim cook' or Craig federeghi
@@tim3172 And what if Apple intentionally slows you down by releasing updates that make your machine crash and 3rd party apps behave weirdlyon them.I think Apple wants to maximise profit and we will have to buy a Desktop every 3 years just like the Iphone. The Intels are much more sturdy.we still dont know how m1x chips will behave with multple third party apps for professional users.
iMac Pro definitely has the best speakers
Max, I have the 2020 intel i9 IMac 5700xt Radeon with 64gb of ram, would you say that is faster than the 24inch Silicon iMac? I do a lot of color grading and editing so I’d be interested to see a comparison with the 2020 i9 you have with the new 24inch iMac
I’m just wondering if the new chip is more efficient in Final Cut Pro than the IMac I have now
Performance per watt it is way more efficient and stronger. Even though the M1 handles easily photo and video editing, yet in some cases the GPU of the 27 inch still beats the M1 processor, but won't be as powerful as the M1X for your type of usage.
@@ryanhaddad6815 the i9 is actually very fast with the GPU and the ram can be upgraded to even handle heavier loads compared to the M1 imac.
Which one will you say I should get I need on for school I’m in college I need a good computer that will work for it and for editing pictures and other things
Is the m1 iMac good for 3d animation, rendering, VFX editing?
Please reply.
7:16 why some people hide their serial numbers?
can you do a gaming test on the new 2021 imac???
6:06 but the old method had the advantage of being replaceable with any standard PC power cable. Now if this power cable breaks, you’re SOL unless you pony up for an apple replacement. That’s my biggest complaint with this generation iMac
Yeah I don’t see this new connector as an advantage. It’s nice for a laptop, but for a desktop? You’re not going to trip over a chord behind your desk, the magnetic connection is pointless there. Also I really dislike that there is a separate power brick taking up desk space too.
Dont break it then... problem solved
@@77dris Wow very insightful. I never would’ve thought of that! Very original.
Volume is a factor of physical dimension & power so it's bound to lack in volume there's no physical way around it.
So this is the new Apple commercial? Pretty smart of them.
Found power cable difficult…. Kids… kids…. 😂
You showed your serial numbers on both Macs...what are your thoughts on that? Why do you think that is safe from internet scammers? Thanks
I've been running the M1 systems for a bit now (Macbook Air, Imac, Mac Mini). I think you guys overstate their performance.
Best practical review channel
It is adapted to the “work at home” situation, with the magnetic connection, longer cable, lighter weight, Ethernet in the brick and better looking back. It’s very easy to put it on the diner table.
The only thing missing is a built in battery.
Why built in battery? iMac isn’t meant to be portable and yes stable on a desk, if you want portable devices you have iPads and MacBooks.
Which one would you prefer for engineering students? I’m struggling to decide which one to buy :/
I'd love to see actual software (videos, photos, compiling code) then these tests.
Still, great job :)
27 intel + boop camp = games¡.
How are they able to transmit the fingerprint data to the iMac so quickly? That’s so cool
I didn’t
My first Mac was an Apple IIE, 1985. We didn’t complain about the white borders because there wasn’t anything to compare them to. Not until the black came out. The black is better.
I installed an Avid (media composer) edit suite in Dublin in the mid nineties ... it was a Quadra 950 with beige monitors ... a film editor took one look at the colour of the machine and dismissed it in an instant by calling it a word processor ... ouch ...
You can see the elegance of what use to be approved by steve jobs him self and cheapness of what’s approved by tim cook!
I can't wait to see this comparison between the coming M1 iMac pro of this year and the version tested on this video
Here would be my choice of colors.
1 Green.
