  • One of the biggest misconceptions when talking about "foreigner districts" in Asia, is the assumption that those foreigners will be mostly western and mostly white. That is, without a question, untrue in every possible way. This area here being a case in point. This is a small enclave in the Phu My Hung area of D7 in Ho Chi Minh City that I refer to as Ktown or Korea Town.

Much like every other Korea town you've prob been to or heard of, this is more of a business district and not a Korean residential area per say. (Not that Korean people don't live here... they definitely do.) This area however, is more geared to Korean business, Korean restaurants and hotels staffed with Korean speaking staff. They even have a motorbike rental shop staffed with Korean speakers.
If you were to leave this area and drive past Cresent Mall about 10 minutes away, you would come to an area that is almost exclusively a Korean residential area and we'll be dropping a few videos on that area since it is one of our favorites. It's important to point out that foreigner hubs like this are perfect for those travelers from specific countries to get into another country and not feel completely out of place. Imagine landing in a foreign country. Far from home, where a different language is spoken, a different religion is practiced, and a different culture is everywhere. People often make jokes about not wanting to go to a foreign country and see things that remind them of home, until they're gone and in that foreign country. These mixes of culture give people a chance to see a foreign country and not feel completely out of place. Because believe me, I can take you plenty of places in Vietnam where you will definitely feel like a fish out of water.
With that said, it's time for some local history.
Phu My Hung was developed in the 1990s as part of a joint venture between the Taiwanese company, Phu My Hung Corporation, and the Vietnamese government. The area was originally agricultural land, but it was transformed into a modern urban area with high-end residential complexes, office buildings, shopping centers, and other amenities.
One of the most notable features of Phu My Hung is its Korea town, which is located in the southeastern part of the area. The Korea town is home to many Korean restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, and other businesses, catering to the large Korean community living and working in the area. The Korea town is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a taste of Korean culture and cuisine in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. Many of the Korean restaurants in the area serve traditional Korean dishes such as bibimbap, bulgogi, and kimchi, as well as Korean-style fried chicken, which has become a popular street food in Vietnam.
Apart from the Korea town, Phu My Hung also has many other attractions. One of the most popular destinations in the area is the Crescent Mall, a modern shopping center that offers a wide range of high-end brands and international retailers. The mall also features a cinema, a food court, and an outdoor area with fountains and gardens, making it a great place to relax and unwind.
Another popular destination in Phu My Hung is the Starlight Bridge, a pedestrian bridge that spans over the crescent-shaped lake in the center of the area. The bridge is illuminated at night with colorful lights, creating a stunning visual display that has become a popular spot for photography and social media. Overall, Phu My Hung's Korea town is a unique and vibrant neighborhood that offers a taste of Korean culture and cuisine in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. With its modern amenities and attractions, Phu My Hung is a great destination for anyone looking to experience the best of urban living in Vietnam.
