I used to make soap and have a bunch of micas and bought some more from the company I use to use a lot for this very purpose. I made 6 small containers to start. I tested them with monomer and they worked and I didn't use a magic bullet. I just shook it really well and also added some fine shimmer. I am gonna do some dips nails today too. I love greens and blues. They are my fav shades.
@@Nichol0824 I just recently hauled two grab bags from nurture soap on my channel. haven't really shown the dips as I only have a few. Waiting on more acrylic now, but it was so easy
This is awesome. It’s so fun to make your own. I’ve been making mine for 2 years now. They actually wear better than dips I’ve bought from dip companies. Meaning I hardly ever have any breaks or lifting.
Love this! Getting started has been crazy expensive, of course part of it is that I need to have tons of options and can't just start small, but this is a great idea. I bet you can add foil flakes, glitter, etc. I can't wait to try. As always, great vid and thank you for sharing!
I know I'm late to the party but that is gorgeous! I just started dipping my nails about 6 weeks ago & I'm addicted (and have dropped so much money lol). This is definitely a game changer for me!

Great video! I just started doing dip nails and was wondering if I could make my own dip powder. So I did a YT search and found this awesome video. I just ordered the pigments, some glitters, and white and clear powders. I can’t wait to see what I can make with them. I never did my nails much because they never lasted very long since I’m hard on them but dip nails are amazing! I’m looking forward to checking out your other videos. Thank you!
They might not have turned out shimmery because of the grinding. I use a lot of micas for soap making and cosmetics and have heard that micas should not be grinder with machine or mortar and pestle because it could break down the pearlescent effect of the mica. Maybe just grind the acrylic powders then add the mica? Just a thought. Can dip powders be used instead of acrylic powders?
Love the colour! I have tried my hand at making my own......I did not put in the white, which is probably why it was not opaque enough for me. I will try with white now.
I have been dipping at home for an year and I just also figured this out!! and your toturial helped a lot with questions I had, so thank you very much!!
Well, I now have my new wish list for nail stuff! Love this color and would absolutely love for you to mix up more of your own colors. Awesome video! And definitely yes to more videos with Brian. 😎

Ahhhh yaaassss! That would be such an awesome giveaway! But honestly I would totally buy your colors if you ever wanted to sell them. Thanks for showing us how to make our own tho!
Just made myself some pearl white, super pigmented from what I can tell, because I kept adding Mica until my container was full...6oz container with 2oz clear, 30g translucent white, and the rest pearl white Mica... going to test it Saturday I think, or Monday... depends on when I can get to my salon during my weekend.
So the ladies at the salon I go to say that my current pearl white dip is a bit thick, so I'll thin it out with some more clear and white dip powders and then it should be perfect. Looks beautiful right now though!
I'm so glad to see you make your own dip... I started about a week or so ago making my own.. I don't blend it I just mixed. I haven't tried it out yet so maybe I should try that before I take it out on a test run

Hi! Thank you for your videos! I’m new to doing my own dip nails, and have thought about making my own color..but can u use acrylic powder for dip powder? I have seen pretty “acrylic powder “, on Amazon, and asked if I could use it for a dip powder and it was a hard no? Lol..so I’m confused..
I feel like I learn more every time I watch your videos!! Thank you so much!! I think a custom Marla Kris dip color giveaway would be Ahh-MAZING!!!! I'm blown away by how easy this looked to mix your own. I'd have such a hard time picking a shade..lol. Have you experimented with Chrome and dip? I LOVE wearing chrome on my toes all summer long. I get a ton of compliments and the gel color on my toes stays really nice. If I do gel on my fingers (car show, motorcycle ride..lol) I have to do sculpting gel underneath and that LED light HURTS on thin nails. Can I do a powder dip, with a gel top coat, and then chrome? If so, what do you recommend for the top coat so that the chrome looks right and the gel top coat?
Nyree Pieck yes ma’am I love chrome! It’s so tricky tho bc it definitely accentuates any tiny imperfections in the nail so it usually drives me nuts 🤣 but heck yeah - you can use it with dip! So your usual dip application, apply gel no wipe top coat and cure, rub on the chrome, apply top coat again and cure and you’re done!! oh my gosh I am so going to try this but I need to know do you buy each color that you want separate like pinks and then just play with it to get the right color
Most people think "mica" = "shimmer", because most shimmery powders labeled as "mica powder" sold for arts and crafts come in a rainbow of shimmery colors. Mica in its natural state is actually a dull off-white or brownish mineral, and it has to be crushed and coated with an oxide such as titanium oxide (which is white) to become shimmery. Then color is added in the form of pigments or dyes. But your friend was right, mica is used in most cosmetics that have shimmer. Other materials that give shimmer include nacre (the pearlescent layer on the inside of mollusc shells) and iron oxides (basically rust particles).
I really enjoy watching your videos, you make it look so easy. I’ve ordered some Gelish dip to try my first dip mani. Have you used the Gelish dip before?
