i'd say its nicer to say "helpful" not "useful" , coz yk he's a person not a tool....idk if ppl agree with this or if it's just my personal pet peeve or smthin
I like how you gave a real life example of how to find the x & y co-ordinates of a line that cuts a circle. Very clear explanation for a parent who left school 30+ years ago.
I did not go far with math in high school, I got algebra, some geometry, and that's all. It's been 4 years since my last math class and i'm going to be taking a college placement test soon. Your way of explaining things and your teachings make it easy to understand it, the first time. Thank you much!
Very helpful! Thank you. Although there could be an improvement as I had a good understanding of what you were talking about, and the fast pace and skipped steps were fine, but If I didn't have the prior knowledge I feel it would have been very hard to follow. Anyway good vid, Cheers mate
I love you so much... i've never been taught this but was given a similar question...i saw your similar video to this and i understood instantly then i came across this one and tried to solve it myself before the video started and i got it...thank you so much you are really helpful.
sir can you do a video on completing the square please and similar shapes when you need to work out a side of a shape that looks identical to another for example you have 2 cylinders that are identical you are given 1 cylinder that has enlarged sides and the others small and you need to work out n (Unknown) bit of a mouth full i know sorry.
+BanterComedy - Hi - here's a vid on completing the square ua-cam.com/video/73d9Xpl96T4/v-deo.html and I'll look into similar shapes and let you know when done. All best S :-)
You saved my life!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well explained. First time that I do this equation and I could come up with the result, thanks this video :) . Thank you so much!!!!
Hi - At the moment I don't tend to offer online tutoring, although might in the future. I do have a website though www.3minutemaths.co.uk. All best S :-)
Man your videos are always super easy to follow! Revising physics and some algebra for uni and I stumbled upon this. I always wonder what math is used for... especially this... what can be substitution used for? Like in real life, could it be used for something? Figuring out something? Physics? Engineering? Tougher equations? It bothered me that in high school we just learned things to learn things but never really got an answer what these equations could be used for or what's the point of learning them. Could you give me an answer good sir?
Hi - thanks for this and completely appreciate your comment. Personally I see maths through Engineering due to my previous career ... for me, most maths was very real. I could see how important it was to understand the effects of mass, gravity, momentum, force, friction, heat etc - maths is really just the language we use to describe these things. High School maths tends to provide a basic foundation; depending on your career, it might become less or more important. Either way it's great that you're asking the questions 🙂 Here's a post on my site that might be of interest: www.3minutemaths.co.uk/what-use-is-a-quadratic-equation/ Best S
can you do the part you did with x with y , i cant re arrange the equation to make it y = so therefore are left to substitute the y into the x squared instead of the x into the y squared
MorganFxrmer Yes, you could, either way will work. Here’s another example How to work with simultaneous equations - eliminating x ua-cam.com/video/J_b4yIMUiSw/v-deo.html. Best S
hey, this video was very helpful thank you! i just have a question for one of my tests and i tried to look every were but still cant find an answer. the question is 2p^2 - p = 15. i know p=3 because i worked it out kind of guessing but i want to know how you would come to an answer like this in case i have questions with higher numbers. I know that p is three but can one of you guys tell me without being smart -so it is easy for my to understand- how to do it?

Hi - you can only work out X if the equation is equal to something. In your example, if you made it equal to 3, you’d get: 5x(x + 4) = 3 Expand to 5xsquared + 20x = 3 Or 5xsquared + 20x - 3 = 0 You could then use the quadratic formula to find out if x has any values. Hope this helps and all best S
Toffee Munch I’ve just completed this question , when you get down the the simplest form of the equation, use the quadratic formula to find 2 values of x then insert them back into the original to solve for y
You're more helpful than my actual maths teacher but I still want to cry in a corner cause it's maths😢

O okay. Thanks
But 2x^2 +6x-20 is 2(x+5)(x-2) , so wouldn't the answer to x be different?
Lol, my reply is a bit late haha but I got the same answer as him so I think your method is incorrect.
Ya that's what I was thinking coz like he divided by 2 but then I'm sure you have to show it tho
Thank you

How would you determine x if when you factorise it, it is like this: 5x(x+4) for example. Great video though!
Hi - you can only work out X if the equation is equal to something. In your example, if you made it equal to 3, you’d get:
5x(x + 4) = 3
Expand to
5xsquared + 20x = 3
Or
5xsquared + 20x - 3 = 0
You could then use the quadratic formula to find out if x has any values.
Hope this helps and all best S

What if the in the original two equations, the y is squared?

Solve algebraically the simultaneous equations x squared + y squared = 25
Y - 3x = 13
