    Fried the control module even though I used a voltage regulator! Sons Camaro needs an overhaul

    Although generically it is “Power Wheels” but from the quick view of the ride-on I think it is another manufacturers ride-on.
    The actual Mattel Power wheels are pretty straight forward and simpler pretty much batteries, toggle switches and motors.
    Some other manufacturers have controller modules that have push button start, engine and horn sounds, etc.
    I believe that by connecting the 18v you burned out much of the 12v controller board. There are replacements controllers available on Amazon that will work with the higher voltage.

    The issue is you have two motors. One of them is for the low gear and when you hit it in high gear it runs in both motors hence dividing the voltage between two motors. Running the motors on low gear would be too much power for a 12v 550/555 motor without a PWM.

    My issue is controlling the pedal with the PWM controller. If you flip the switch on the PWM, it will either start turning the wheels forward or reverse. I'm trying to wrap my head around on how to wire the pedal to the PWM so it can work by pressing the pedal down to get this thing to start driving and stopping.

      Take the 2 wires from the pedal and interrupt the positive wire from the motor to the battery. The pedal will now be the on switch

      @@joshc6080 thank you! I will give that a shot. Now when you say interrupt do you mean wire them both into the positive wire coming out of the positive terminal of the motor output? Thanks again.

      @joshc6080 Рік тому

      @@dashvideos4841 unhook the positive wire. The pedal should have 2 wires, hook one of those wires to the positive and the other wire to the battery power. The pedal is pretty much a on/off switch, when you push the pedal it will make the positive connection

    Hope u got it sorted if your still interested, check both motors work with 12v applied to motors if fire ensues extinguish and purchase 24v motors (assuming 18v are elusive), if motors work consider buying 24v speed controller as the 12v one is probably fried, best to use a 24v drill battery or 2 12v in series ie connect one + to the others - then have 24v across the two batteries, most 24v speed controller shut off when v is under 20v,
    my kid runs a 24v 12ah little tikes cozy coupe which gets him about 👍 nice vid thanks for posting.

    5:00 so if the powerwheels have a clutch thing it has 2 speed modes 1 slow and 2 fast on 1 only 1 motor spin in 2 both motor spins so if u used this pretty much on speed mode 1 that motor is more used up than the other.

    You might try an inrush current limiter. Since the PW is designed around crappy SLA batteries, their discharge rate is lower than LiFePo or Li-ion.

    The first things that occur to me, is that there is something wrong with the switch. Maybe, it's damaged or worn, and replacing it might work. It's a very simple system. Look at the wiring, and you can work out what the switch is doing. HOWEVER, knowing that one of the motors might be bad, something else occurs to me. It might NOT be the switch at all. If one of the motors is bad, it might be preventing the circuit from working, when it's wired in a series. (Slow forward & Slow reverse) However, it might work, when it's wired in parallel. It's possible that replacing the motors might solve the problem. By the way, you might want to get motors that match the voltage that you're trying to use. You can get entire gearboxes that have different types of motors - if you would like a plug & play solution.

    did you ever figure out what was wrong ? My sons power wheel jeep only ha reverse. forword isnt working. I upgraded his battery to a Ryobi 18V and he's been riding it with no issues for a month. then all of a sudden yesterday he went to get in it and it doesnt go forward. when he hits the pedal while in forward you can hear a click noise then nothing happens. reverse works fine.

      I haven't figured it out yet, but I am hoping to dig into it soon. Hoping I didn't burn the switch up too but time will tell. The little Barbie Jeep is still running strong!

    To much voltage from the drill battery will fry the motors. Buy a voltage regulator and just don’t put it on max. Eventually you’ll have to replace the motors anyways due to the voltage.

      From everything I've read and everyone I've talked to I think I put too much power to the electronics. Unfortunately it's been a year now and I still haven't gotten around to replacing the motors and anything else that may or may not have been fried. Next time I'm going to add a voltage regulator (about $15 on Amazon) and maybe downsize the fuse to protect the electronics. When I get around to that (and I really hope I get to it soon) I'll be doing a follow up video. The Jeep is working great though and the kids use it weekly!

    1'd put a 15-24v to 12v 30amp step down on circuit with these newer cheaper motors

  • @ejonesss
    @ejonesss Рік тому

    probably blew the fuse.
    most power wheels toys have a 30 amp fuse in the battery or inline and you can blow that fuse.
    it could be cheapening of the parts.
    also because you got it used maybe something was wrong to begin with

    Man I done a 12-20volt lithium adapter today and thsi ole power wheels has sat outside for 20 years but 3 cuts and butt terminals and shit you can’t hold the front end on the ground I clocked my 3 yr old 12mph lmao. Yours seems really slow compared to mine today? But I am blowing 30amp fuses about every ten minutes . I blocked reverse so they can only go forward to maybe save some gears for a bit longer . All in all he was very happy and hell may need a helmet as fast as this sob is running lol
