  • Hey everyone!
Lovebites was my first introduction to japanese music and I love them ever since!
Also I learned to play the piano for over 10 years but haven't played a lot these last years, simply because I don't have a piano at hand where I live right now and also because I'm learning the guitar now too. :P
Loved the Helloween cover, so let's check out the rest! :D

This is what Ynwie Malmsteen said in an interview: "I watched this young Japanese girl [Unlucky Morpheus] on UA-cam recently playing "Far Beyond the Sun" on the violin, note for note, absolutely perfectly. It was really great, and what was so interesting is that it sounded like it was a piece of violin music, not just a string of guitar licks. It is so crazy that it sounds exactly like it was composed for the violin. I was amazed by that. It was like it had gone full circle from me being inspired by the violin to hearing it played by a great violinist".

You can see inside of the piano on the Helloween cover Video - Mi-Ya is playing a Yamaha C-4 (their top of the line model) She re-imagined all of the songs on 0p 23 as Classical piano pieces, and arranged them with that in mind. They All have moments of her using her composition skills to make them 'piano pieces'. Miyako fun fact - She has a University Degree in Music Composition . . which has helped compose about 1/2 of Lovebites' songs. She also writes for other bands, most notably Crystal Lake . . . Quadratum (from Kingdom Hearts video game) is a sub-set of Unlucky Morpheus, without Fuki or Shiren (the guitarist who also does their harsh vocals). Thanks for this great series, just subbed to follow the Journey. And yes, it would be good to do the originals since many people may not have the proper context.

Yngwie Malmsteen was a favourite of mine growing up. Some people seem to think that neo-classical playing has less soul than playing based on the blues, but that's a viewpoint I've never understood. To me his playing is very expressive. As is the best power metal, which these days is essentially a blend of neo-classical playing and traditional metal (and maybe speed metal). Almost a must-pick artist for Miyako's EP, and right up Jill's street too. They both nailed it.

Quadratum is basicly UM but without Shiren and Fuki. Malmsteen is most likely an inspiration for many of these Japanese shredders seen in these awesome bands!
Midori and Miyako are huge fans for example and im sure Shiren, Jinya and Jill as well. All excellent musicianship, original and covers! Thanks! 🤘

Very Impressive from Miyako, and I agree this one lends itself much more to the piano interpretation. Quadratum as you guessed is a sub-unit of UM without Fuki and Shiren - I've read the other members affectionately referred to as something like the "Jill show-off show" 😂 I would certainly recommend you checkout the live version of them covering Eruption by Van Halen and Dance of Eternity by Dream Theatre for more Jill awesomeness.

I don’t know why, but once again, I feel like this song would fit perfectly in Castlevania video game.
And by the way, the first time I’ve heard about Jill was in a cover of Castlevania song “Bloody Tears” where she plays violin, of course. It was 6 years ago.

I know of Castlevania of course, but I never actually played a Castlevania game 😳
I played Bloodstained Ritual of the night though, which I think is very similar (and by the same guy even?)

@@react-o-mat Koji Igarashi who made Bloodstained co-directed Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Then, he produced all the Castlevania video games since Harmony of Dissonance.
I played Castlevania games since to first one to Symphony of the Night.
My favorite is still Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. And my favorite music is from the first two video games. The first one was actually made by a female composer called Kinuyo Yamashita with the help of Satoe Terashima. They have been credited under the pseudonym James Banana. It was a pun for James Bernard, the composer of the film Dracula from 1958.
Satoe Terashima also composed the music of the second game (Simon’s Quest).
At the time, when I was a kid in the early nineties, I loved so much the ending song of Simon’s Quest that the only way to hear it again, was to finish the game. So I finished it 5 times! There wasn’t UA-cam back then and a search bar to find the song in a few seconds and listen to it over and over.
At the time, you had to put some effort to achieve things. Now, everything is under your thumb. You just have to click. Haha, I’m getting old. And even older (it’s my birthday today 😅🎂)

Maybe you could check out Jill’s cover of “Bloody Tears”. It’s actually from Simon’s Quest.
The artist is Tetsuya Kazuki. Jill’s and other musicians are playing with him for this cover.

it is a real Grand piano in this the Roland is an eclectic Grand , she does use real grands on stage in older LOVEBITES shows though petty sure they switched to the Roland cause it is easier to move from show to show

@@react-o-matThe Roland Electric grand has eight speakers built into it, they're meant to emulate the positioning of the strings and hammers within the soundboard, if you close the lid it makes a tonal difference for monitoring purposes (though it also has direct outputs for gigs/recording). The response is slightly different with the action of the keys, which is what Miyako has felt less comfortable with, having grown up playing mainly acoustic pianos.

I have come to love this track mainly because of the Quadratum cover, but I agree it also works really well on piano. Miyako did a great job, I enjoy her version a lot as well.
Also, the Quadratum album is worth checking out (and yes, that's Unlucky Morpheus without Fuki and Shiren).
Basically all tracks are bangers and I enjoy even the ones I never heard before. This is the tracklist.
    1. Far Beyond The Sun (by Yngwie Malmsteen)
    2. The Dance Of Eternity (by Dream Theater)
    3. Into The Arena (by The Michael Schenker Group)
    4. Hundreds Of Thousands (by Tony MacAlpine)
    5. Scarified (by Racer X)
    6. Eruption (by Van Halen)
    7. For The Love Of God (by Steve Vai)
    8. Technical Difficulties (by Racer X)
    9. 17th Century Chicken Pickin' (by Impellitteri)
I have read somewhere that Ygnwie Malmsteen has heard the Jill version of the track and really liked it. Not sure how much of that is true, he is famously critical from what I have heard, but it would be a great compliment if that actually happened. Btw, Jill has perfect pitch which is probably going to help with an instrument like a violin.
I also agree with Home Gnome, their live cover of Eruption/Dance Of Eternity from Unlucky Morpheus' original channel is fantastic and certainly worth checking out. It is not as perfect as the studio version, but it comes pretty close and those are not easy tracks to play.
