Hi Stuart - great lesson thanks. Just got a new band going and i am learning Seven days. Got about 3/4 of the way through it but I was ad-libbing to some extent. Now you have explained, the 3s and 4s accents on hi-hat, I am hopeful to crack this after several weeks of toil!
This is a great exercise to work at. So is the song it’s in 5/4 but someone was breaking down the song and said it’s in 16th notes on the high hat. I thought it was eight notes with an accent every third note but not 16th notes
In the original track, I hear two kicks before the side stick, not one. Also, during the video of him demonstrating it, he throws in two kicks.. am I hearing a kick or a over synthesized hat accent?
Another cool one he does with that groove is slightly open the hats every other accent of the 4 pattern to make a kind of 2 over 5 pattern. Love this tune. Nice lesson!
Best lesson on UA-cam!!! Thanks Alot
Nice video that covers the simplest part of the song
Omg! Was searching Seven Days and my favorite MI teacher came up! Awesome video, thanks for everything
That was great !!!!! Thank you.
The hihat on the original is incredible. So fast yet so quiet with amazing dynamics

I love Vinnies odd grooves. Maybe give us a breakdown of the 9/4 in I Hung My Head?
Chelfyn Baxter I’ll work on it thanks.
This is a great lesson! Is the loop available for purchase/download? What are you tapping to start.stop the loop?
Larry Spivey striking a Roland pad hooked up to the TM2 which is loaded with the loop. Yes, I can email you the loop, HMU at stewartj@mi.edu.
