In this video, when I was talking about linear ramp, I said that Aim Ease adds a dead zone that was false. Aim ease in doesn't add a dead zone. Sorry for the slip-up. I will try better next time
Thanks for vid ❤
So what does it do
You have no idea how much this will help us cotroller players with little to no knowledge of the technical aspects behind the aiming techniques. Thank you, Boss
I mean its something considering that if theres even 1 pc player in the lobby then aim assist doesnt work for anyone
@ChristianKirboDaPoyo as a PC controller player the pain is real
Great video! I use dual zone right now to play Hanzo and can aim long distance, but I struggle up close; after seeing this video I'll try and give the other aiming techniques a try.
Amazing video! The only thing that this video is lacking and that it SERIOUSLY needs is for you to show the best heroes and different situational examples on how each of these aiming techniques will be useful.
Like that, you will be able to guide different types of players to different aiming techniques that will give them the best gaming experience.
Everybody wins and nobody feels off!
Ps: Liking and commenting my post for it to be shown on top of the comments section 😂.
holy moly IT WORKS. My Hanzo is shredding right now with these aim settings.
Thank you for this! As someone who’s trying to play with controller after being a PC player my whole life, I find the lack of responsiveness of a thumbstick compared to a mouse a bit difficult to work with. I’m gonna give linear ramp a go and see if it’s better ^^
Honestly super informative, I had no idea of how dual zone worked so I never dared to try the other. Gonna go check them out now thanks!
Glad I could help!
Best controller setting vid for sure ! I’ve been playing overwatch since day 1 and this is the most helpful and easy way to understand the settings! Well done pal
i hope you know i looked up this kind of video for years. exactly what i needed, better than the rest. thank you. im a masters player and im getting shat on long range when i play sniper
try decreasing aim assist window size when playing sniper. Helps isolate a single target instead of having your Aim Assist drag you off of the person you're trying to hit. I personally play on 20% window size for widowmaker.
Amazing explanation. Im transitioning from mouse to controller and this video was exactly what I needed.
Great to see controller settings being discussed in 2023 because this is still a pain point.
But gotta nitpick here...
1) Not possible to manipulate deadzones at all in OW.
Smoothing is the inverse what other games call aim acceleration, and is an abomination of a tool because if the aiming provided a better ramp, then no one would need a literal delay to their aim to help them. And AIM EASE IN is not a deadzone; it's some kind of exponential coefficient in the ramp function that basically lets us create our own exponential ramp function.
Not sure if AIM EASE IN even works with exponential ramp but Blizz advised not to combine because it's indirect and duplicative results as just using Linear.
2) I think you described "up close aiming and far away aiming" difficulties correctly for us to understand, BUT it's actually the UNCHANGEABLE DEADZONE that is the culprit.
No matter what settings you choose, OW doesn't give us an actual deadzone slider. And I'm pretty sure it's over 18% ... (inner deadzone)
What this means is that OW will not respect our right thumbstick inputs until we breach 18% from center.
And that's in 360 degrees.
So the main problem in OW aiming is dealing with A/D strafing (e.g. left right strafing) enemies because if we're tracking to the right, then when we want to track left, we have to go through 18% deadzone times two to get to the other side and start tracking left.
This can be especially bad feeling if say your total sensitivity settings allow you to track at a low input... say 20%.
So now we drop the percent and look at stick travel distance being 1 to 1...
Basically, if all you want to do is track right at 2 units of speed, then swap to tracking left at 2 units of speed, our thumbs have to actually travel 40 units!
This is from +2 to the right, then reaching 0, then passing 18 deadzone on right, then 18 deadzone on left, then 2 MORE units to left... -_-
PS: This phenomenon is exponentially worse when tracking flying heroes.
3) There's no way dual zone is 90% and 10% split or even larger inner zone. Pretty sure it's only 25-30% inner zone. But sucks for up close because what I described above except more than double the issue.
Anyways, this is getting stupid to type. Hopefully this makes sense.
I hate that this is my favorite game and been playing thousands of hours and Blizz stopped adding aim settings a long time ago.
Still hoping to be surprised with deadzone sliders one day.
TL;DR: OW needs a deadzone slider. Until then console players will NEVER have their aim 100% consistent. Especially due to this being a pixel perfect PC designed game. It's very difficult to micro adjust reticle by a pixel when at a stand still or when in opposite direction because the built-in unchangeable deadzone is way too high.
Ur the best bro like genuinely omfg. I hope u wake up rich one day
Thank you so much for this. You're the first person to go in depth like this so I appreciate it. Subbed.
Very helpful. Thank you for your dedication to making this. My aim feels much better now.
YOOO I'm the 400 subscriber and btw this helps me so much like I can't thank u enough
Thank you for making such a detailed explanation video for console settings.
I hope you don’t mind, I linked your video below a video I recently posted for people who need help with aiming on console
THANK YOU FOR NOT FORGETTING US SWITCH PLAYERS 😭 everyone forgets us
Damn if you knew how much this video will help me and my group i'm so thankful for this video
Thanks! It took me forever to find the option.
Like no joke this has helped me more than anything. I struggle to aim with Hanzo and Cassidy many headshots, but now I have no problems.
what settings r u using?
Thank you so much I've been frustrated with my aim settings and not knowing what all the shi means had to reset settings and will be using this for help thanks again 🙏🙏🙏
A like and subscribe from me. Thank God someone actually explains the linear ramp thingie stuff.
Bro you explained each of them really well. A sub for you is well deserved. Thanks
This video was actually so helpful🙏
Dude this was life changing!!!
I never knew what these were thanks so much!
Great video, really helped!
Thank you for this. Now im going too tinker around too see which works best for me. I didnt want too mess with it before just because i didnt want too get too used to it, then change it and then relearn my controls again.
This has helped me a lot!!! Ty!
I have been using linear and honestly its just the best technique for us controller players n trust me u can be very accurate as long as u use aim assist ( I have been playing with no aim assist n it was awful but it helped me a bit to learn how to aim better ) those r the settings I use n u guys can try them:- 100 aim assist strength
80 aim assist window size ( I don't recommend for widow but u can try it for yourselves )
70 Aim assist ease in
0 aim smoothing
0 aim ease in
Whats your vertical and horizontal sensitivity?
Just switched to linear on genji feels way better in those close 1v1s
What dual zone needs is a setting to move where the zone threshold is. To me it feels more like 80-85% towards the edge, but I want it more like 95%, to give me a little more room for faster slow speed and only a sliver of space for max turn speed. Alternatively they should just give us a custom sensitivity ramp like normal competitive shooters lol
I like your channel, thanks for all
This is helpful but I've been on duel zone with a low sense and it feels so jagged it can be slow one minute and then flick really fast in another minute
It seems like the sens you adjust is actually for the fast zone not the inner
Amazing. For any projectile players (Junkrat/Phara/ect) I recommend turning off aim assist.
Really great explanation.
Well earned sub🙏🏾
Exp is good for flicky characters like inarri and genji andnis a must for doom fist
I'm very new to OW and main Kiriro with expramp. It really does feel great on those flicky characters compared to Lin and dual
Thank you for making this
Linear ramp for me feels leagues better then everything else in the game.
Dual zone you're fighting auto aim and over compensating the dead zone etc.
Ramp keeps thing consistent and smooth for distant aiming while sacrificing a little up close dueling potential.
Im a linear player but in ow2 I'm struggling because of the high deadzone even when its set on 0%. I'll try dualzone out
Dual zone feels better for sure it's just the transition of speed makes me sick and you generally want high speed since the inner zone is much more slower
just made my life 10x easier🙏😭
I would argue the opposite for Linear Ramp. It’s harder to use up close because there’s no dead zone in the game. You can keep increasing Aim Ease In to help with this but past a certain point, you’re no longer reaping the benefits of Linear Ramp, being it’s consistently across whatever % you flick the stick in any direction.
Been playing Linear for the past few years if that helps.
I really do appreciate your opinion especially as someone who uses Linear ramp and I agree mostly about everything but your point about Aim Ease In I kinda disagree with. So of course if set aim ease in at 100% then you will not get the benefits of Linear ramp but I personally feel if you set it at somewhere around 20-35% I think you can get the benefits of Linear ramp and you also get a dead-zone but really do appreciate this discourse Thank you
There is a deadzone and it's just big , smaller or PC tho but we can't control it like w5f
@@NateSuxAtThisabout 35 should make it feel like expo
I disagree cause I have not struggled much in close range fights but mostly the very long range fights lol but then again I always struggled in very long fights in all games
I play linear on all characters I just love how responsive it is, I try dual zone I feel like a complete bot😭 it just feels so delayed
Linear is one of the best aiming techniques, so if it works for you, there's really no need to change it. Just try to refine your sens.
I have 1000h+ at this game and still playing tracer for 180h at dual zone so ty
Been Streaming and using small zone after trying linear 10months ago since I debut ow2, however never understood these tech n now I'm experimenting with this Intel I appreciate u my guy n followed n subbed W mans
I use duel zone and my settings are perfect for me for mid long range and close too
came here after getting rolled by a reaper that never misses
Thank you for this video. I just made some adjustments and tested in quickplay. Everything feels so erratic right but my numbers say I'm doing well. I just had an 18 elim match on Kiriko. Before the adjustments I maybe hit 6 to 8. My healing is better too, I'm flicking to my teammates faster to get the heals out.
yeah, whenever you first change your sens it does take some time to get used to it. but I'm glad I could help
What are you using?
Dual zone supremacy 👍
Different breed frfr
@NateSuxAtThis hey i love the linear controller settings, really helped me up my tracer game. Wanted to know if you have specific setting for projectile heroes like hanzo kiri, mercyand Zen
Hey nate love the videos but I was wondering if you can answer this question ( how do you tell if someone is ximing)❤
Ow1 aim settings was so much better and easier to understand idk why they had to change it
I just struggled keeping my aim on a hero with my right stick while I move for the aim it make it feel like the sensitivity is 100 and I just can’t keep the cross on the hero . And I play alot pvp games
Im tryna look into the settings because of marvel rivals so i wanted to basically copy my ow settings but i just can’t get it right it just feels so off for me rn
Love this. Would you say linear is better then for Tracer, Reaper and maybe Kiriko? Just thinking of heroes you want to closer to ppl with when aiming
I've found that tracer definitely benefits from linear but I haven't tried it on reaper or kiriko but like you said anyone who aims up close should benefit from linear. Feel free to try it and tell us how it goes
Hi great video what are your dual zone settings and sensitivity❤?i feel like i dont find good settings so i would like to use yours and try to improve thanks
Here's my sens and a little explanation
100
100
100
100 (70 if aim assist legacy mode on)
off (on for characters like soldiers)
0 (20 if aim assist legacy mode on)
17 ( if you are not used to low aim smoothing, please start a 99 or 95 and lower in increments of 5 and just lower until you find a comfortable aim smoothing)
0
Hopefully, this will help
@@NateSuxAtThis thanks a lot mate ,i Will practice right now to get better you help me a lot today, you are great buddy 😋
Should I use linear in Lucio?
Linear and turn aim assist down a notch because he has projectiles.
What are you sojourn controls?
If you’re on xim play linear, if you’re on controller play dual zone, if you’re weird play exponential
honestly perfectly said
can you show how to use firing range on console plssss
*cries in total genji noob who has absolutely no idea which one of these would actually work best and struggles to find any settings that genuinely work*
Linear Ramp is good on Genji. Makes it a lot easier to turn when you need to dash
@@HugeHaddock what about the other settings for genji specifically especially for someone still trying to learn how to play him before moving on to the more advanced stuff he can do?
@@Lostmasteraced You want more horizontal sensitivity, with less vertical. This makes it easier to keep your shurikans level. And you generally won't be shooting flying targets.
Turn auto wall climb on. It can definitely save you if you don't have the reactionary skill to always press the button.
Make sure your dead zones are also smaller. It can help a lot
@@HugeHaddock sooo what numbers for all those?
@@Lostmasteraced It's personal preference. I was just giving an overview
What would be the best configuration for widowmaker? and Ashe?
When I take a few days off overwatch, I have to switch from linear to dual and once I’ve been playing for a few days on dual I feel restricted and get good with linear and the cycle repeats if I take two or three days off off the game. It’s SUCKS !
Just a question, when you show Dual Zone settings, Legacy Mode is ON. Is that correct or do I need to change it to OFF? How does it works with Dual zone in case that it must be ON
The settings I showed were meant to be examples and not to be taken literally because for the sake of simplicity I just set all of the settings to 100 so I would take those setting with a grain of salt. But as for whether you should turn on legacy mode that gonna depended on what characters you play because I've found that Legacy mode really help on character that require a lot of tracking. If you decide to turn on aim assist Legacy Mode the remember to Lower your your window size and add in a little of aim assist ease in. Hope this helps
What about reaper ?? What aim tec is good for him? Since he’s a up close character
Linear
Excellent guide but you forgot to add in "for controllers"
my bad for the bait, thank you for catching that and I just updated the title.
Do u use any kontrolfreeks if so then which ones
every kontrolfreeks is the same
i have like 3 and they feel the same
Me: Contemplating if my sens is too low atm…
30 for Horizontal and like 25 for Vertial for most of my charaters lmao
Tell me if this is too low for a console player idk it works for me but I want some opinions on sens for console thanks :D
Those are your preferred settings for each technique?
I need help, if i have a sens 60/60 what aim assist ease in recommended? is dual zone btw
I like aim assist ease in at 20, which is a good place to start, but anything from 20-50 is good. Hope this helps
@@NateSuxAtThis Ok bro i will try it, thanks.
Now what settings are YOU using?
Tried doing this and this was not it
why do you have your enemy as blue and friendly as red? 😂
I recorded from a Replay and for some reason the colors are switch but nice catch

This game would be 100x better if you could aim. Shooting from the hip sucks, would be nice to see an aim button added for sure. Until then I’ll just use junkrat and hope for the best lol
overwatch settings are dreg. i accidentally had reset all settings and still can't get my old parameters back
Now the real Question is what do other games use. I think COD and stuff areusing Dual Zone so you should probably use that so your aim from other games carry over
Dual zone is fairly unique to overwatch. Most games use an aim curve somewhere in between exponential and linear, most opting for a move exponential curve. The exponential curve used in Overwatch was actually borrowed from the COD team.
I think dual zone was chosen as the default as a compromise, since overwatch doesn’t have ADS like most shooters to give you the precision of slow ADS aim and the speed of fast hip fire aim.
I use exponential personally, since I feel like linear ramps up too fast making small to medium stick deflection too close to your max turn speed and making it harder to make fine aim moves, but I do think linear can be better for tracking if you play heroes like Soldier or Zarya.
Dual zone feels terrible to me because of the huge jump when you hit the fast speed threshold, I would recommend medium sens linear or high sens exponential both with 0 smoothing - and like he said for linear you can turn aim ease in up a bit too if you want since what that control does is makes the curve more exponential. It’s doing it mathematically though rather than a hand tuned curve like the exponential aim mode, and I find it doesn’t feel as good when turned up to roughly match.
Apex has dual zone
@@kebbinatorsame I hate jump but it feels better in general tho 😢 they need to overhaul the control settings and add deadzone settings
@@diamonshade7484 Apex has one of the most comprehensive and adaptable aim configuration menus of any console shooter.
Of every console shooter I’ve played dating all the way back to the PS2/Xbox, Overwatch and Apex are the only two I can remember having a dual zone curve option or feeling.
I stand by what I said. Dual zone is very uncommon, and is a poor technique to use because it is unpredictable due to the jump in speed and is bad muscle memory to learn because it does not translate to any other games.
I completely agree about them needing to overhaul the aim settings.
They need to most importantly add a deadzone control, strip out most of the unnecessary cluttered and confusing settings, add some new curves like the ‘dynamic’ S-curve in newer CoD games, change the way aim assist works to be more in line with other, better feeling shooters, and add gyro aim for PS4 and PS5.
And they need to do something about all the XIM players in higher ranks.
Bro i played you the other day
did i play well?
I'm pretty sure that there's tons of Nate's so if They played bad then it wasn't me. lmao
@@NateSuxAtThis they were pretty good but whats your rank so i know
@@Bananadoods rn I'm masters 3
@@NateSuxAtThis nahh nvm different console nate
Honestly just think it bad game design on blizzard part. No other console game has needed so much testing to feel comfortable. When Hanzo hit with his rapid arrows they said they redid the entire aim assist algorithm. They just havnt had good designers
Helpful video but keep in mind sensitive is different for everyone so use them all then decide what to use. Take it from someone who uses wack asf settings
Overall which one would u say is the best
Honestly Id say it's a tie between Dual-Zone and Linear Ramp, but if I had to only pick one id probably say Dual-Zone slightly edges out Linear ramp
I juse wish aim assist would work
(If thered even 1 pc player in the lobby then aim assist dont work for anyone)
Dual zone feels so weird switch it to linear it’s so much better
aim ease in does nothing for your deadzone thats a myth bro
Legitimately, thanks for the new information. I'm going to pin a comment with the correction
@@NateSuxAtThis valid man 👌 what it does is weird and the best way i can explain is it increases the influence of vertical & horizontal. if its at 100 it makes going perfectly diagonal pretty awkward bc its trying its best to keep u moving in
