    I'm from Maryland and never been east coast skiing 😂. Been to Colorado, now I live in Germany going to Austria and Switzerland often. Something about these smaller mountains seems special though

      I love the small mountain vibe. You also don’t need to pay $180 a day for lift tickets. Snowshoe was $65 a day

      The smaller places, even in the Rockies, try to cater more to the average skier's finances, and are usually way more friendly. Yes,the runs on a 1900 ft mountain are going to be shorter than on a 4000 foot mountain, but usually are just as enjoyable.

    • @Brosef336
      @Brosef336 Місяць тому

      @@richardpare3538And usually the 4000 ft resorts are split up by multiple lifts so the very your skiing is really like 1000-2000 ft which is the same as if you went straight up the 1900 ft mountain on 1 lift!

    • @richardpare3538
      @richardpare3538 Місяць тому

      @@Brosef336 Yup. Lots of places have multiple peaks, all with different base elevations, so they claim a total vertical instead of what you can get on one run. Sugarloaf in Maine is one of the few places where you have a true 2800 feet of vertical in one run.

    East coast skiing is fantastic. The people who only ski the Rockies don't know what they are missing.

      It's fine, let them stay out there with their long lift lines and $300-500/day expenses while we enjoy our still hidden gems.

      I grew up with $25 day passes at Snowbird and Park City. Last time i had skis on was Snoqualmie pass in Washington 35 years ago. Now I'm 2 hrs from Snowshoe. Gonna try it!

      @@markee063 Used to get $9 "Twofer" days at Wildcat in NH on Wednesdays - 2 for the price of one, and being mid-week, zero lift lines. Being 70 now, my cost for 5 days at Sugarloaf in Maine (mid week, of course) runs all of $175, with zero lift lines again!

      @@TeKnoVKNG23Problem is that Snowshoe is probably the most expensive mountain in the east. It’s also in the middle of nowhere where and has very little expert terrain. Great mountain just expensive for what it is.

    • @TeKnoVKNG23
      @TeKnoVKNG23 2 місяці тому +2

      @@Brosef336 There are a lot of places to ski, especially in NC and WV that are much cheaper than Snowshoe and don't have the "corporate" feel. Snowshoe was sadly bought by the Western resorts, and while it has some really good trails, it's just not worth it between the expense and the crowds. I can go stay in Canaan for 5-6 days and get in multiple days of good skiing at Canaan and Timberline for what a 2-day trip to Snowshoe would cost me. That's also why I tend to avoid Wisp and 7 Springs, they got picked up by the corporations that own everything and the prices skyrocketed while the skiing experience went down.

      So yeah that was in the western territory. I can’t remember the exact name. But we were supposed to be at snowshoe all this week but we needed up having to cancel the trip last minute because of unforeseen circumstances. So we are excited to go again next year

    As I comment this I’m staying at a resort and went skiing yesterday. It’s truly a beautiful sight from the top of the mountain. There is so much at SnowShoe and I only live about 2 and a half hours away. You should try the flumes they are greens but they are so fun. As a West Virginian, WV is truly amazing.

    I learned to ski at Perfect North, a small hill in south eastern Indiana. Snowshoe was my first mountain and was such an awesome experience. Their greens were equivalent to Perfect’s black runs. If you go, you have to ski the backside of the mountain at least once.
    (Also, I’m currently looking for honeymoon ski trip recommendations for something in the Colorado/Utah area. Someone please give me recommendations!😂)

    Longtime skier that lives in Tampa here.... considering a good beginner trip for my son to NC, but Snowshoe is so tempting.... did you guys roadtrip it? Or fly somewhere close and then drive? Only thing about flying is I find pricewise it's comparable to heading out west.

    • @WeekendPirate
      @WeekendPirate  10 місяців тому +2

      We drove because snowshoe is in the middle of no where so there are no close airports. It really offset the expense of flight, baggage, and rental car. Sugar, Beech, and Appalachian mountain in NC are very fun as well but snowshoe does a much better job at snow coverage
