- hey folks, thought I would bring you along for my newest shotgun purchase. I just today picked up the Charles Daly 301 home defense shotgun. this one comes in a tactical Gray cerakote and also features Benelli mobile one choke tubes. I wanted a short barrel shotgun with interchangeable choke tubes to do some research as to the versatility of a short barrel shotgun over a more traditional 28 to 30-in barrel shotgun. I don't know why more shotgun manufacturers don't make a 18 and a half inch barrel shotgun with interchangeable chokes. to me this would make the gun far more versatile. chime in and let me know your thoughts on this. and don't forget to leave a thumbs up or a thumbs down. feel free to discuss this in the comments. and if you're not a subscriber please feel free to subscribe. thanks for watching
Another good looking shotgun and a great price. I really like that gray color! I'm always partial to the 18.5" to 20" barrels just for the easier handling and maneuverability but definitely looking forward to the tests.😎
I don't understand why more companies don't add removable chokes to there home defense shotguns, I think it would make it a more versatile firearm. I prefer shorter barrel shotguns. Thanks for watching
Having a chrome lined barrel means a lot for a shotgun. I had a Maverick 88 that wasn't chrome lined and still got pitted even keeping it oiled.

I bought this gun on Black Friday 2021 from Sportsmen’s Warehouse for $179.99. Mine is all black. Mine did not come with chokes, just the wrench. I’ll have to see if this was in error. I believe the ad stated “accepts Benelli chokes” but didn’t say they came with the gun. Anyway, this is my first pump shotgun, and it’s intended use is home defense. I added a UTG flashlight to the pic rail. As I said, first pump gun I’ve ever owned. I’d been thinking a Mossberg, but at less than half the price, this one looked worth a shot, and my initial impression is very positive. I bought a couple boxes of 2 3/4” #5 shot. Looking forward to taking it out.
Yes from what I understand only the tactical gray came with the choke set.
I just ordered one of these online, the all-black model, and it will cost me about $260 total, but it will come with two barrels, so provided it works right I am getting a good deal.

Picked one of these up at a sportsman's warehouse for $199, on sale from $249. That KYgunco deal looks good, but I don't have a local shop and FFL transfer fees around here get ridiculous. The biggest difference is mine only came with the modified choke (as advertised by S.W., I was never expecting 3 chokes) I'm happy with what I paid for what I got. It seems like a solid shotgun and I can shoot anything from shot to slugs through the modified choke so I'm good with it. For $200 a 18.5" that takes choke tubes and has a pic rail for a flashlight is amazing.
In looking at these online I think it kind of has to do with who the importer of the gun was, as to what chokes you received with the gun. Mine was imported by chiappa I would be interested to know if yours was also imported by chiappa or some other importer. I know these have been brought into the country by several different importers overtime. Thanks for watching I've yet to get to shoot mine but I'm looking forward to doing it.
You can shoot all that through a full choke also.
Mine came from the same importer. No choke tubes though, just the wrench.
Picked one of these few months mine is tactical came with a 5 round mag also a 10 round mag cycles nice also have a citadel like it also

It looks like a nice gun but it sounds when you slide it it sounds like a plastic toy gun. I don't know about these guns today all of them they seem like they're cutting corners and every one of them even the expensive ones I like the older rifles back in the 90s that's when they made them good and sturdy. Reason they're making these expensive guns but they still say they're a budget. I mean who can afford a Henry rifle that's Single Barrel $600. It's still high for a shotgun or even a rifle you can get a Ruger or a Savage for that much
Looks like a good value. The ability to change chokes makes it several guns in one. With an extra full turkey choke it should put out a pretty good pattern. Years back when NEF was still in business I got one of the Pardner Pump guns in 12 ga with a short barrel. Ran some turkey loads through it and it did okay, even without interchangeable chokes. Still have it and makes a fine home defense choice with some 00 Buck. Good vid Rob. Looking forward to the tests.
I ordered a Carlson 675 turkey choke for this gun. Going to try and do some testing with it
I'm currently setting up a black aces tactical smax for turkey! Put a carlsons .665 choke, 18.5 in barrel and 50 yards is my max with the long beard xr ammo! Covers a 10x10 paper pretty good!
Want someone to put a longer barrel off another Turkish import on one of these 18 barrel ones!

Is this basically the updated version of the earlier Charles Daly Field 12 gauge pump? Are Remington parts such as forearms and stocks compatible with these?

Thanks for the video. I just picked up a 301 tactical and I appreciate the review. Hopefully mine works out ok. Just curious if you had a lot of play in the slide action? My foregrip seems loose and rattles around from left to right, just not sure if that’s normal?this is my first gun and is for home defense for my family. I don’t recall the one on display feeling so loose, mine was brand new in the box.
That's not uncommon for the slide handle of a pump action shotgun to rattle around a little bit. It has to be kind of loose in order to slide to its reward position without binding up. Still have mine sitting in there in the gun safe. Still one of my favorite shotguns

Sweet little Shotty ya got there! Definitely reminds me of my Dickinson XX3D-M2. Looks exactly the same internally, also made in Turkey & fits Beretta/Benelli parts. Gotta figure they're all made in the same factory for several different companies. Thanks for sharing!

What beretta and Benelli parts will fit on the 301? Stocks and things? Or just internal parts

So a benelli m4 collapsible stock wouldn’t work on the 301?
Awh I bought mine from Cabelas aswel didn’t have the choke tubes lame …
I bought one of these back in December. It had a burr on the bolt that I smoothed down to make it cycle better.

Got mine today - YEAH! Like the chokes, it looks a lot better than my standard old Mav 88. Seen mixed reviews on the quality of this gun - if it holds up as good as the Mav 88 I'll be happy.

Probably typically they don't change their designs a whole lot.
I have one, put a full choke and scope on it. Works well. Its my coyote gun.

I got the same shotgun but didn’t come with the choke tubes set. (Black box) Unless they forgot it... 🤔 Sportsman’s Warehouse I got it from. I also looked on the Kentucky gun company and they have the shotgun listed. CD 301 but nothing about the choke box included. I do notice something about modified choke (on Sportsman’s warehouse) it mentions but not on the Kentucky gun company one.
Yes the Kentucky gun company ad does not say that it has interchangeable chokes. I actually watch the only video on UA-cam at the time on the gun. In which the guy demonstrated said nothing about the gun. I messaged him and asked him if his definitely came with interchangeable chokes. And he assured me his did. I do know a couple other of my viewers have purchased the 301 from Kentucky gun company and there's all came with the choke tubes.

@@NYJJ99 did you buy the one with the black one with black furniture? Cuz I do not believe the black one comes with interchangeable chokes. The only one I can say definitely is the tactical gray model.

Picked up one at Sportsman's Warehouse the other day. It doesn't have the two extra choke tubes, the white on the sight, or the same finish . . . but it is a 301. Lots of oil on these things . . . very "industrial" manufacturing and quality. Hopefully it's reliable and reasonably efficient, though.

My son has a 301 tactical pump action and while cleaning he pump it by accident and now it is caught up on the o rings and can't relase to disassemble how do you fix it
I don't know what o-rings you are speaking about. That I'm aware of there are no o-rings in the 301.

I keep seeing everyone who buys these gets them extra choke tubes but mine didn’t I bought it brand new from modern sportsman champlin mn. I think I got jipped.
I think the one in tactical grey was the only one with the choke set. I have had others who bought the black version tell me theirs only came with 1 tube

I am guessing it will not rust. Lite gun wt. Is good for us older dudes. For Air Force Security Policeman. We had the Stevens M37. In Vietnam.
This gun with the nickel finish should be fairly impervious to corrosion. These guns were originally made with a nickel finish. To be used in more Marine environments around saltwater. Thanks for watching

Can i switch out the 14" barrel from the honcho with this model??
I would advise against that even if it would work. Because in doing so you would probably make it a class 3 firearm. Shotguns are limited to a 18-in barrel length to be legal. By putting the 14 inch barrel on this firearm you would be creating a class 3 firearm, which would be a federal offense and a felony. So even if it would work I wouldn't do it.
Is it a Winchester clone?
No it's actually copied after a Beretta single shot shotgun

I think the fact that it has interchangeable chokes would make it a good gun for dove hunting. Would be light and quick to swing on target.

Well at the time I bought this I couldn't find a Maverick 88. Plus this has the option of interchangeable choke tubes in the short barrel the 88 doesn't

Yes it shoots 3 inch magnums

@@HamiltonOutdoors Yeah man they have them Vances and a few other stores near me all around 200-250$ I keep seeing people with the 601 dps (the m1014 clone) but cant find reviews for the stock one im seeing in the shop.. I may just pick it up and trade it off if i cant get it to run smooth.
