Eu Jin would have made it to Rasa Sayang easily if he only charged for 10mins at a 180kw charger. That would have cost 40 ringgit. He can then top up the battery at the destination charger in the hotel car park. People need to understand how to charge efficiently with EV on long journeys. If he had charged it for 10mins and 40rm at Simpang Pulai then his EV trip to Penang would have been just as quick and far cheaper than any other comparable 400bhp ICE car to do the same journey.
For the current EV tech, it seems like the owner needs to do some math for travelling, ppl were too comfortable with ICE car in which they can just get a full tank & walla, you're ready for long distance travelling .
Quite sure they agreed to the almost full charging as a requirement for the challenge, just like one took the new bridge & the traffic jams while another took the old bridge with less traffic. If it was only to see who would arrive the fastest, they'd take the exact same journey to be absolutely fair. Hence the requisite almost full charging before taking off to slightly level the playing field.
RM120 ICE full tank, get to Penang without stopping (no toilet break also) with about 1 and 1/2 bar left. Speed was about 130-140km/h on average. EV is still expensive, only when the charging expenses lower i will switch, till then i stick to good ol ICE. 😊
If you drive long distance a lot ICE is still the way to go. EV's value comes in when driving in town. You probably wont ever need to pay for charging other than your home electricity bill 😁
They charged at the most expensive charger in Malaysia, and they also charged to 90%+... who does that?? Looks like they're trying to get the highest charging price record.
It’s a very bad idea to charge 400V platform EV at Shell Recharge. Worse they charge to 90+% 😅 Better option is Charge at Tapah R&R or Ipoh which is 40-60% cheaper than Shell Recharge at Spg Pulai. Shell recharge is best for 800V EV platform such as Porsche/Kia/Huyndai… or join their membership for better rate.
Right away at 3:03 your friend catches you on video flooring it into the far fast lane around those caravan trucks. So what happens is you had negative 15 km left when you told Google to navigate because that's how you drive. So when Volvo says it gets 450 km that means normal people driving it normally and not trying to throw the range test by punching it and flooring it all over the place. 👍
Great video! However I have to say charging users based on time is ridiculous. Not to mention it's expensive. It should have been charged per kwh instead. I wonder whose "brilliant" idea it was to introduce time based charging🤦🏻♂️
@@yeohpp2425 Agree with you. There are already tech for batteries with 2-3x capacity but have to wait till it gets to production cars. Range anxiety is still a thing for EVs. But my take on this is the current fast charging cost v petrol.
Time being EV car is practical for town short distance with multiple stops and heavy traffics within 20 KM radius. Beyond that ICE car is still the best option.
EV for now is just a big town/city vehicle. Nothing more. Imaging travelling at country side where no charging station available. Hybrid is perhaps the best choice.
Oh boy, i feel you. Recently driving ICE car with ~20km of fuel left, got stuck in traffic jam in the middle of the day (le tour de Langkawi). Boy it's so much anxiety watching my meter go down because it's too hot to turn off AC.
they should compare same model same make 1 EV vs 1 ICE. i got a feeling that ICE is better in every aspect purchase cost, fuel cost, time to travel especially on longer trips
Yes, that's true, the ICE vehicle would blow these 2 EV in almost every way but then these youtubers might get banned from reviewing Volvo cars in future because they exposed the big EV scam 🤣🤣🤣
If im not mistaken, if you going to take advantage of the drag, u need to be closer to the front car. The distance in the video will have the same outcome. No advantage there
why give false info to publicity? EV just charge to 80%, because the charging speed drop a lot after this. Only charge to 100% if u can't find any charging station when driving to destination or charge at home by AC charger.
if you did the calculation, Volvo Mutiara Damansara - Simpang Pulau R&R - around 200km. that's about RM0.78/km, if you compare that to a normal gas car with 10km/l (RM0.25/km)
Their comparing two ways of getting to Penang, which is faster. GC lost the race but probably only spent RM40 charging the car at home before starting out.
Finally the special combo duo is back 😊
As usual, autobuzz always comes out with high quality content video that is useful and answers people's questions! Keep it up!
OMG, Miss malaysia a lot
Miss driving there in this video, you drive me back 8 years ago
very informative test drive..hope you guys will do the same with other EVs too!
Absolutely loved this!

Too much of a hassle to think on where to charge for best value.
Please repeat challenge using KL-KB during raya period for more realistic scenario 😂
Love this type of video, as expected coming from AutoBuzz. Entertaining to watch with added info. Thank You!
Not wise for Eu Jin to charge over 80% using DC charger at Shell Recharge as it's charged slower and not worth the value.
always a quality video from autobuzz...
Aya. Your HI GOOGLE kacau my tv oredi. Hahah. Btw lama u tk jadi host bro glad to see u again
Someone (car journalist also) did it in iX3 before. I think he arrived around 23% battery left
Superb video to compare the mode of drive an EV

Wait till fuel subsidies are over then try recalculating again

Good job Eugene..you improved a lot

This is the best buzzzz
Good Job GC MAH
1:54 summons my Google Assistant😂
An ICE car usually needs only 1/2 to 3/4 tank of fuel to reach Penang. And that's with 110+++km/h speeds. Guess no EVs for me yet..
In fact the range is depending on which EV.
Driving at 110-130km/h some EV can reach Penang with 20-30% battery juice left.
And refilling much faster, more station. If they did the challenge during festive season, they might need to queue for charging station
@@yeohpp2425 Agree with you. There are already tech for batteries with 2-3x capacity but have to wait till it gets to production cars. Range anxiety is still a thing for EVs. But my take on this is the current fast charging cost v petrol.
@@nazrinasraf5819 Worst case.. get stranded before reaching a charging station.
@@yeohpp2425true but those EVs would be much much more expensive models than these Volvo's to begin with
Hope can do the same for Atto 3 and Dolphin

Can still charge at home.
If you are travelling far then it's still will be a problem. Unless there is a portable charger for travelling purpose.😂😂
New subscriber here!
should just charge till 80% and leave
I was told Shell EV charging rate is the most expensive
This works when there's no traffic, during festive seasons jam, the anxiety would kill ppl

An ev would actually do better in traffic as besides the AC and some basic electronics the car will be using no power.
Actually traffic jam in City drive is the strength of EV compare to ICE. It can get better range in heavy traffics.
Stuck at Greenlane - Masjid Negeri just a 15 min jam, he goes all the way to town and back to tanjung sure slow xDDD
Gc please dont mention the hey google on your next video . My phone literally want me to go take a drive to penang while eating maggie 😭😭😭
Would have been better to stop at Tapah r&r slightly slower chager but at half the cost.
Will the XC40 make it like what u guys have achieved ?
Haters will say EV has no sound and it's too quiet and comfortable.
The Volvo C40 cannot charge at 180kW…. Max of 150kW for the AWD or 136kW for the FWD.
If it’s the model 2024 it can charge at 200kw
@@kaiser1966 yes, but it wasn’t. It was a FWD model. So 2023.

13:45 Top Gear style of claiming victory 😏
Well, I drove a BMW iX and GWM Ora from KL to Johor without charging as well, earlier this year during CNY. All good and smooth.
Do the EV drive KUL-PEN with 4 adults in the car and a full load of luggage in the trunk.

rm156, pump 97ron an average ICE car of 6L/100km can get you from SG to penang :D
rm156 pump 95ron? can go from SG to Thai border easily
with hybrid, maybe can return too lol
why is so expensive rm 156 ?
He picked the most expensive DC fast chargers in Malaysia along the highway😂
cost of charging seems higher compared to petrol
Only DC, which is only use for quick charging. Most of the time youll charge at home, which is a lot cheaper.
He picked the most expensive fast charging facility from Shell 😂
Other fast charging facility fee is about the same we pay for Ron95.
Not sure whether I'm watching Top Gear or Autobuzz. Janganlah tiru sangat..

When are we having electric army tanks and fighter jets ? To save the environment
Volvo=Geely
RM156 for electricity? daylight robbery
I rather arrive later and with RM156 in my wallet to spend on Penang food for days.
dude not using apple carplay. Dangerous
Why?
@DarkExternalHeart if not why there is an emphasis to use handsfree in some countries?
RM156?????? apa ni??

Only DC fast charging, most of the time you won't need it you charge at home.
