I remember being in elementary school in the 90s, and even we were talking about how weird it was that R Kelly was married to Aaliyah. You had literal 8 year olds recognizing how creepy this was, because it WAS creepy.
the fact that 8 year olds cared more than adults/ppl that worked with the law is rlly saying something it's both disappointing and funny at the same time
@@couragekarnga8735 most likely bc of his fame and money, he literally bribed officials so he could have an illegal marriage, clearly he'd do the same in order to stay put of jail.
It still baffles me that R Kelly was so influential that _Aaliyah_ was blamed and vilified for the marriage scandal. People really did teens of the 90's and 00's so dirty.
I agree. I think of my teenage years in early 2000s and I had multiple guys irl in their 20s try to get with me. It started when I was 13! Luckily I shut it down but not because I thought it was super weird (obvious it was!) but I was so use to it, it seemed normal. I *hope* things are different today and teens know it's weird for a grown man to tell you "you're mature for your age" or "you're not like other girls". It's disgusting! Aaliyah was done so wrong 😔
Well, one finally down.... One to go, Ezra Miller 😳😵 When is that man going to jail?? He's almost as bad going on yearssss now. He should have been jailed when the 12 yr old girls aunt saw Ezra literally ehhem her in the back yard while the family was setting up for a celebration 😳 that girl is now of age and still with him.... And he has assaulted a few women since and nothing, no jail.no charges, no nothing bc Hollywood. It's gross.
Gayle King's response to R Kelly's outburst gives me life. She wasn't rattled in the least and spoke to him like he was a toddler having a tantrum in the supermarket.
You know what's even more cooked about Aliyah's death? She died in a plane crash, in a plane she did NOT want to board. She was literally sedated and carried on. I'm pretty sure I also read that the pilot had expressed concerns around the flying conditions at the time.
My mom once told me about this guy she met who back when he was in his 20's this couple with a young daughter moved in next door. He said one day he would marry her and instead of her parents being creeped out they thought it was cute. He babysat her and literally watched her grow up and once she was 18 they got married. My mom thought it was sweet that he "waited for her" and I was like absolutely not! He fucking groomed her! Why would an adult look at a two year old and think "ah yes my future spouse"?!
"I'll marry that 2 year old" is only cute a single time, and that's when the speaker is around the same age. Also, I usually don't care about age gaps, but if a guy is "watching her grow up" that's too big an age gap. (The grooming has already been mentioned, I don't need to voice my outrage about that.)
I remember this 21 y.o. guy telling me he dated a 15 y.o. and he was laughing about how she was currently dating a 30 y.o. with approval from her parents Tf is going on over there in America 😭
@@TheDanishGuyReviews Yeah my godparents are 16 years apart but they met when she was already in her 20's so it's not a big deal. Whole different story if he knew her as an infant.
So this guy was goddamn Jacob Black from Twilight? Actually, it'd be more accurate to call him Quill Ateara since that character actually imprinted on a two year old. God Twilight is fucked up.
Whenever someone tries to argue with me about the morality on dating with huge age gaps and use the argument “but they’re 18” I get frustrated. Legality and morality are not the same. If the legal age on consent was lower some people wouldn’t give a shit this happened because it would have been technically legal. It’s frustrating.
I remember at one of my first jobs I was genuinely disgusted as I heard two boys wait for a cashier turn 18 when they were in their mid twenties and the two looked each other in excitement and said “dude! She’s 18!” And the other said “I know!!! Dude she’s 18!” I was genuinely disturbed
Whats frustrating is that there should be more people in R kellys circle who need to be held accountable too, because they helped him and knew what kind of person he was. Kelly cant read so his enablers had to have helped him with so much
for the longest time I thought R. Kelly was already in jail, I just can't physically process how somebody could do such horrible things and not be in jail💀💀
so did me and my mom 💀 she told me at like age 6 that R.Kelly was a p3d0philǝ (didnt say p3d0philǝ but something similar) and was in prison. when she found out that he had just went to prison she was pissed

Robert Kelly is one of the greatest singers, record producers , and songwriters of all time. His discography is extensive and spans over 3 decades. A lot of artists wouldn’t be known for the hits they have today if it wasn’t for him and his artistic prowess. Now imagine how much money he’s made artists and furthermore LABELS (owned and operated by white people mind you) with that sort of skill. Edgar Allen Poe was a damn creep. my mom told me when she was younger she went to a r kelly concert and it was common for girls to come back stage, her & her friend that went to the concert with her were invited to go backstage. her dad was security and literally told them they WERE NOT allowed to go backstage with him. The sad part was my mom was 12, pretty & very shapely and didn't know why he was so firm at the time but the fact that people knew for decades what he was doing and the girls that were victims were simply not protected. if her friends dad didnt stop it anything could have happened. sad smh

R Kelly crying to the people off camera just gives me the impression that he's a sociopath that has realised he can't escape the allegations, and needs to convince everyone in the room that this reaction isn't him being caught, but that he's having a breakdown over being wronged by everyone

The poor dude was not only concerned. He looked completely shell shocked . I think in that moment he had like an epiphany. He realized a pedo just admitted to his preferences live on TV but he probably also realized that this guy wouldn't get his rightful comeuppance for some time.
There was a man down our street who was also called R. Kelly. He was a language teacher in our school. I was lucky not to be in his class for more than a year( even in that span he gave me the heebie jeebies. I got stung on my thigh by a bee and this fvcker asked me to lift my skirt and show where I was stung like there are more than 2 places where I would have my thighs😑) Anyways, my batchmates got him arrested later for fondling them. He was in jail for like 5 years and now he is out and transferred to another school😒 That is the story of the R.Kelly down our street.
I appreciate this video a little more than others. Thank you for this breakdown. I’ve been following and documenting this story/individual on my own, but I found your video easy to watch, light hearted, but still getting the seriousness across.
It is crazy how hard it is for rich/famous people to get sent to jail. If someone doesn't deny liking teenagers, there should be an investigation at least.
I like how the Boondocks has been saying this since 2005 and everyone just brushed it off side note: his prison sentence is literally twice the age Aaliyah was when they got married
Aaliyah saying her age was a secret..? That felt so awful and wrong… like if she was an adult I’d get it.. but a minor shouldn’t be hiding their age, especially if they’re in the entertainment industry..
The crazy thing is... it's almost as if he believes he's innocent and is being unjustly targeted. Damn, this guy must have been an absolute nightmare to have as a friend or family member. Or a colleague, or a woman in general.
When you said that R Kelly's lawyers claimed he couldn't read I absolutely didn't believe that. But when he said "If he was still my brother then why was he fired?" I no longer doubted that he couldn't read.
According to Wikipedia, Kelly was diagnosed with dyslexia before dropping out of high school. I can’t imagine that there were many resources available for black kids from south Chicago with learning disabilities. Still a cunt though.
something good about this is, usually inmates in jails will beat the hell out of other inmates that have assaulted younger people sexually. considering all this, i dont think r kelly is getting out of jail alive, or in one piece
I honestly have never had any interest in R Kelly. I watched this because you posted the video. Whoever does your editing… Is fantastic! You are hilarious 😂 thank you for bringing some sunshine and laughter
How ironic it is that R.Kelly literally screamed about giving 30 years of his life in that Gale King interview, and now he literally has to serve every year of his 30 year sentence in prison. 😟 Mr.Kelly, it sucks to be you man.
one thing that infuriates me is that when i was in my 3rd year of highschool, i was put with maybe mostly second years and they kept writing on the board "free r. kelly" obviously highschool kids are gonna be "edgy" and mostly not the smartest but they had/have enough intelligence to realize that he was a bad man and it shouldn't be joked about
high schoolers should know not to be so awful.. I remember in middle school the boys putting sw@stikas everywhere.. like why do young people (mostly boys) think being horrible and offensive is cool or funny..
Kids are going to rebel in any way they can. Back when the Chris Brown Rihanna thing happened, some kids were taking his side too. It made me so unbelievably angry at the time, but nothing is off limits for edgy teens. They mostly grow out of it. Mostly...
The thing that makes me really sad is people probably heard the album title “Age Ain’t Nothin But a Number” and thought, oh shit cause she’s young and talented and probably thought it was a great message. That’s what my brother used to say at least but now that R Kelly has gone to jail it’s very evident what he was doing with that title

That CBS interview got me actually laughing when he started ranting about how how stupid he would have to be to commit the crimes, because it's so obvious he's just frustrated with his own stupidity.
I love how when the interviewer asks if everyone lied about him, he responds with "no one had anything good to say". Those are not the same things, sir.
Kudos to that interviewer for keeping her cool. Kelly was being soooo freaking rude and condescending and it definitely shows his attitude towards women.
Agreed, it showed his attitude towards *young, attractive women. The interview with Gayle he treated her with more respect... But maybe that's just because he was busy having a meltdown lol
It was like everyone knew but went, 'so uh - do we - do something??' It felt like for years nothing was being done - that people just accepted it. There was silence instead of justice. The fact that this is happening is beyond relief for me, the disgusting things he did, the selfishness, the lives he ruined because he just felt like it - he deserves everything and more coming to him and I hope he gets the fullest. The women and people he hurt didn't just lose 'those years' with him - they lost feelings of safety and boundaries, and it was replaced with trauma and coping mechanisms that they have to live with now. F this guy.

Yeah we are in the worst of the timelines. R.Kelly got to ruin children (yes, even if they were legal its the power he had). Yet we lost an angel like Aaliyah way before we should. Also I am not surprised why this took so long because of his wealth. You can get away with a lot if you have the money to get away with it. Thanks Leo good job on half million. Can't wait to be here when you get to a million.
I remember some ppl in the comments calling Aaliyah a thot and I’m like wtf, I have no idea how they have the audacity when she was exploited from a young age and ppl just brushed off Kelly.
And when he's spouting off about kids needing a relationship with their father, clawing for any sympathy he can get, he never made any attempt to contact or spend any time. Exactly as he said, zero. Absolutely spineless.
Yeah. I grew up in Chicago and I remember my relatives talking about him and mentioning spots and areas he liked to hang around. We all loved his music, played it all the damn time, but we'd drive by a place and they'd be like, that's where R Kelly likes to go to pick up them young girls. They would tell me I better not hang around there and that he was sick/weird. But we're still gonna play all his music at every family event. But he was so wrong for what he with Aaliyah. But can't wait for that next album tho. I saw him once in person at work with one of his victims and it was so unnerving. Everyone was so excited he was there, but I went and hid in the back room until he was gone. He was like a boogeyman to me lol As always, loving the content Leo!

As someone who was uhm, I even have trouble typing it out, sexually assaulted when I was 8 or 9, I can't even remember or be sure of how old I was but not older than that. I whole heartedly agree that even at 15 you just don't know what you're doing or what is happening or how much you are manipulated, sometimes even to the point of actually believing that you're enjoying this. That gives so much guilt when you believed that you enjoyed it and later on find out that it all was wrong and you didn't. That just leaves you believing that it was your fault because you acted or believed as though you liked it, so maybe if he knew and I made it known that I didn't like it, he wouldn't have done it. I should've done that. I shouldn't have done this. God the guilt is so dumb. Afterwords and if you had therapy you know it's dumb deep down, but God it's so hard to fight the guilt. Me heart goes out to everyone who had gone through this. And guys, that have been trough this, I'm so very sorry that it's even more stigmatized in comparison to women. I'm so sorry that it's even harder for you to talk about it. It happens to guys too and women can be the perpetrators.
i am genuinely terrible with words so sorry if this comes out wrong...but it sucks to hear that happened to you, nobody deserves that. i know it wont ever go away, but i hope you're able to get help/it gets easier for you to deal with. what you said at the end is so true, i really do hate how society treats men who deal with this, it makes me so sad to know that if something happened to me, id get treated better than a man who went through the same thing. its so unfair. :( people think women can't hurt men just because we are weaker physically, but thats not the case at all.
I can't speak about your experience directly but I wanted to say, that guilt and thought process is so common and you aren't alone. It is upsetting though because you are left reliving and rethinking your responses, whilst that person most likely isn't... unless they have been penalised and sulking about it. Life can be incredibly unfair. I hope, with time, you are able to heal. These painful memories do not define you and I wish you all the best for the future.
I understand the guilt wholeheartedly, it’s given me intense migraines before from the stress of mentally fighting myself in circles. You certainly aren’t alone, we must be strong for others like us. 💕
@@Urza. Im sorry to hear that you’ve gone through it too. It is not your fault. You did nothing wrong. I know it’s easy for me to say. I know how hard it is to follow your own advise. I would never tell someone who’s gone though that that their feelings of guilt is logical. However even though I would never say that, and try to tell them that it’s not their fault, help them with it all, I work as a social worker where I work with a lot of abused kids I still, (even after my therapie that has helped me in the way that I can speak about my history a lot easier now) have a hard time following my own advice. But just try to think of the things you’d say to someone who has gone through the exact same thing as you. So not just abuse literally your exact story, try to think what you’d say to them. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and try say those things to yourself. First in thought, then when you may feel comfortable enough try say it whispering to yourself each day, then after doing that until you feel comfortable enough, try saying it a little bit louder. While you say it it helped me to first act although you are saying it to someone else because that makes you feel like you fully believe everything you’re saying because your saying it to an imaginary person who has gone through the same thing repeat the top three advices you’d give to someone like that for a while and then start to say it to yourself as I instructed. What that does is at first making you feel comfortable with the three statements you’re saying as you are saying it to someone else who has gone through it. So then when you start to try and think about saying it to yourself you are already at least somewhat comfortable with those statements. That way makes it a little bit easier in comparison to just starting out saying those statements to yourself. In the beginning it either way will feel foreign and uncomfortable. But just start slow as I sad by thinking those statements to yourself (try each day but if that’s a bit too much start by maybe twice a week) and then when you feel comfortable enough whispering, then when you feel comfortable enough try saying it out loud. By that I don’t mean screaming, just a normal speaking volume. It’s not a fix not at all, but repeating it when your in you comfortable place somewhere you feel safe, lay down, sit up, close your eyes, open them, which ever position is most comfortable for you. After a while try saying you’re worth it. Because you are. You are worth it. You are beautiful, you aren’t someone that needs pity nor probably want it, you are strong and you are worth it. I hope this sort of ‘exercise’ can help you. It helped me with dealing with the guilt. It isn’t a fix but if you keep that exercise up for a while and do it each and every day it will help. It will be hard and sometimes it throws you back into a flashback so then just take a pause for however long you need, but try to pick it up again. Unless it only gives you flashbacks. For some people it just isn’t the treatment they need. Everyone is different especially when it comes to PTSD. And I really don’t mean to make things harder. I just try to give advice of what helped me but also my opinion through experience from my schooling and work. You don’t have to do anything with the advice but if it feels spoke to you you could try it. And if you are in therapy maybe consult him or her what him or her would think of trying that. As even though I am trained I’m no therapist so definitely take their advice over mine. I just want to help but you don’t have to do anything with it love. Anyway. You’re brave to share it in the first place. And again. You. Are. Worth. It. Mate you really are.
I saw the notification and RAN here! Keep up the AMAZING videos, literally no other UA-camr is half as swag, honest, morally conscious and funny as you are. You’re awesome. _Signed by, a big baby._
The "woman" is Oprah's bestie Gayle King and since the both of them were involved with this interview on some level makes me think something shady was back in the scene. It was still pretty unclear at that point wtf was going on, but it was pretty ominous... and then later on, more bombshells were dropped the year the documentary came out. I also have not grown up in America, so that might be a factor of how much I or other people would have been aware of back in the day, and ofc age matters too. I can’t be sure really of what might have been in the papers at the time, I didn’t read them as a kid/teen. The stories about him and the documentary gave me nightmares. I'm so glad he was FINALLY put away, and I hope those girls are recovering. This was a good breakdown!
So good! I’ve watched this video two times. And I’ve watched the intro probably 10 times. I’ve had “hold girls against their will chain them up in my basement” stuck in my head for days.
I’m only a few minutes in but I just want to say that I’m from Chicago. Everyone has known for decades that R. Kelly was a “shady character.” I’ve even encountered the man myself. A friend of mine is his niece. She called him one day on my cousin’s cellphone. He didn’t answer, however he called back later. We told him who we were and explained that his niece had called. He was cool about it. A bit later he called again asking us if we wanted to come to a party he was throwing. Of course we didn’t go, we were maybe only 13 or 14 at the time. He proceeded to call my cousins line a few more times after that. Edit: I wanted to add that it’s mind boggling how people threw themselves at him though. He used to play basketball at this rec center in the south suburbs, and it would be filled with women dressed like they were going to the club. Literally most of the women in there were trying to get “chosen.”
I don’t comment much but we both laughed at the same time when he started talking about the hog tying. It literally felt like I was sitting on the couch with you laughing. Thank you for being you. I found your channel a few months ago and I’ve been binge watching it ever sense.

When someones argument for their innocence is "how stupid would I have to be to do that, come on, you know I wouldn't" they're guilty, at least most of the time.
I honestly don't get why people are defending him all of a sudden and saying to free him. Everybody knew he was a fucking creep years ago, when I was still a little kid, and they let him off. And look at all of the people he's hurt and abused in the meantime, 20-ish years later. Someone in Hollywood that knew him well said that because he can't read, he's intimidated by actual adult women, so he goes for young teenagers and children because he can control them. For that interviewer to even ask this _child,_ Aaliyah, if she's _"boyfriend & girlfriend"_ with this grown ass man is weird asf in itself. The R-Kelly case is crazy asf to me, it hits really close to home for me. I'm just glad to see this man finally put away, although it's an incredibly light sentence for everything that he did. His publicist wasn't shit for letting him do that last interview, though lol.
Because there is a narrative within the black community that he is being framed by the "white man" for his crimes and that he didn't do them at all. It's actually a pretty common narrative that comes out whenever a rich/powerful black man is arrested for something heinous. An argument can be made for it but in the case of people like Bill Cosby and R. Kelly, the argument falls flat on its face because of documented history of such behavior. Reports of both men abusing women came out as early as the mid 90s. I feel that if anyone was going to nuke their career it would have been done BEFORE they became super powerful.

As a kid in the 90s he gave me weird vibes and this is before I found out about the Aaliyah situation.
He was like a boogeyman to me lol
As always, loving the content Leo!
Holy shit this is wild lmao. Probably best that you hid tbh
How can they all talk about how he’s a creep.. then go on to play his music constantly..
@@KingOfGaymes I think the black community just has hella blinders when it comes to figures like this. I didn't realize it when I was a kid, but a lot of excuses get made for like... "the successful (black) man". Like because other groups don't really lock up their creeps, so ours are ok? Fighting with people defending Cosby made me realize a lot... The best I can say is that I think it's actually kinda complicated 🤷🏾♀️
Edit: I also wanna be very clear that I'm not saying excusing this behavior is ok. I'm just commenting on some things I've heard/seen from my community.
@@AirDNA1115 I guess Chris Brown is part in that equation too 😔 maybe Kanye as well
The black community forgave white people for slavery; so the black community is going to give a black man 12 chances, like Cosby
i grew up in chicago and went to elementary school in the neighborhood R. Kelly lived in. many of the girls i went to school with had stories about seeing him or running into him, and how he was always soooo nice to them and how cool it was. this was around when Ignition (Remix) came out so he was a big deal and a total hometown hero. i never thought it was weird, and just thought how cool it was these girls had met him, and it wasnt until years later that i was like.... "YIKES!!!"
edit: you are hilarious!!! your ability to come up with jokes on the cuff is incredible hahaha i could watch you react to paint drying and i'm sure you'd make it funny somehow!
This video was flawless Leo, thank you!! Your music is actually really good as well! I appreciate your talent.
@Anne Black I'm soooo sorry.💔💔

R. Kelly finally getting justice? "That's a sign of a victory!" (One of his songs).
honestly mad respect for the women interviewing him shes keeping her cool so well while kelly is throwing a tantrum
The "woman" is Oprah's bestie Gayle King and since the both of them were involved with this interview on some level makes me think something shady was back in the scene. I don't know what but Oprah is shady AF, then Gayle is the same and they've both proved it.
He was completely insane in that interview but I can bet that Gayle was so happy to be "the one" doing "the Interview with R Kelly", since he didn't wanted to do any interviews on the subject.
(But she did a great work regarding the circumstances even though I dislike her very much)
I love your realistic bittersweet reaction to his sentence. It's hard for me to be completely content that someone who did heinous things got what they deserved *after* being able to live out their best young years as a free person and inflict more harm onto others in that time.
Unsure why this was recommended to me, but you just got a new subscriber

💯. Also, we were younger. I can’t speak for the adults at the time, but we were kids and teens. It’s not as obvious to us what it was. Looking back though. Damn.
@@Mama_Bear524 exactly this! I'm side eyeing my elders. Considering the fact i was a child myself and i didn't even know about his relationship with aaliyah until i was in my twenties and she was long gone (rip ♡) i'm not finna pretend EYE contributed to this mess.
edit- first i heard of his mess was when i watched boondocks in college. I said ewwww stinky man and never bothered with his music again
@@Mama_Bear524 Yeah, I didn’t know any of this stuff until I was in my late 20s or something. I think it was not too long before the Surviving R Kelly doc, I saw Phil DeFranco report on that Kelly had some sort of sex cult or something but I don't remember minors being mentioned.
Those interviews with Aaliyah or Kelly would probably not have been on tv in my country (MAYBE on MTV? Which I didn’t have), at least not on the base channels (those everyone had even without access to cabel).
If someone was above a certain age, watched those interviews and articles back in the day and didnt "see the signs"? Oof. I mean Im not surprised... but oof, non the less.

I was about 9 or 10 telling people around his first album that something was off about him. All of his music was about sexual activity and him being able to do things others can’t (get away with crimes). Boondocks even tried to tell everyone…

Kelly was a “shady character.”
I’ve even encountered the man myself.
Literally most of the women in there were trying to get “chosen.”
asking your 13 y/o NIECE to a party is just… wow
I don’t comment much but we both laughed at the same time when he started talking about the hog tying. It literally felt like I was sitting on the couch with you laughing. Thank you for being you. I found your channel a few months ago and I’ve been binge watching it ever sense.
Gale/Gayle did such a good job. She was such a good interviewer. She deserves praise for that interview.
"... ROBERT!"
She unintentionally created a meme lol. I don’t agree with her all the times on how she was trying to exploit Kobe after his death. But the Kells one was gold.
@@fuziontonygaming I totally agree. I don't watch alot of news or interviews so I don't know much about any of these people. But I've seen some analysis of this interview that this was a very good one

When I was in 6th grade my brothers and I were taken by social services because of a bullshit reason, but the family I was placed with had an autistic son that would force us to listen to R Kelly and Kid Rock in the car wherever we went. It conditioned me to hate him and Kid Rock and that sentiment carries forward almost 20 years later.

When someones argument for their innocence is "how stupid would I have to be to do that, come on, you know I wouldn't" they're guilty, at least most of the time.
"Do I have some 10 year old friends? Most of em." I laughed so hard at this.
"Fiddled with a diddle of a liddle kiddle" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 at my computer desk...I had to bring it back one time!
I feel that if anyone was going to nuke their career it would have been done BEFORE they became super powerful.
right like if you suspect something weird is going on call the cops....dont be like "so yall dating??" like, itd be different if she asked in private and was actually being concerned but like it was more like the tone of someone giddy and looking for gossip
He wasn’t in Hollywood. He was in the hood in Chicago

Dude he's dyslexic brah like you can pay ppl to teach you how to read properly. That's legit all he needed was a tutor like dude was a multimillionaire just hire someone this is sooo weird.. It was the pride and ego if having to admit that he had issues instead of dealing with them he perpetuated the cycle of pain and ignorance that was done to him. He's honestly a shyte man and I can't listen to his music anymore and frankly I kinda don't want to anymore anyways. So it kinda worked itself out... Just the stuff he sings though lol
