The sound of the snow.. crisp crunch! I can always tell the difference between cold,, very cold and fkn Freezing by the sound of the snow crunching under foot. He's not lying about how cold it is in this video.
You can tell how cold it is where you are by how squeaky the snow is too. Up here in Minnesota with -20F the snow can almost sound like nails on a chalkboard when you do anything on it.

We've been hitting record lows here in Colorado too. Was -20 as well recently and other parts for even lower but Antero Reservoir hit -51F on December 17.

Lars, this upload brings back many fond memories of when I was a kid in the 70s, living in Northeast Ohio. My friends and I would build snow forts every winter at my Grandmother's farm. She had 5 acres or so, and we had plenty of room. We woukd connect them with tunnels, and camp out on weekends. Your shelter looks awesome, and would be alot of fun to overnight in! For the people who do not like you Blah Blah Blahing, let them make their own adventure vidoes! One of the main reasons I subscribed to you channel is the fact that you do not fake anything. I remember the winter of 1976-77 in my area(West Virginia, U.S.) the actual temp was -20..with the wind chill it was near -70. I was getting wood and carrying coal to heat my home. Country Gals can SURVIVE.
That shelter would definitely help in a bind. Never thought your content was fake. You keep it real and sane. You know you made it when the backyard "bushcrafters" feel threatened by your authenticity. 👍🥃
Stick a spoon in the wall to hold your candle. I’ve used similar shelters winter camping in Alaska, Maine and New Hampshire. I pull my pack into the entry hole and a vent hole and sleep warm.

We would build a 'Wikiup' of sorts with a sapling lashed dome frame, piled with snow, then cleaned out. They were exceptionally warm. At 55 now, I find myself missing those days... Thanks again Lars. I underestimated my wood supply an am running low. Hang in there, spring is around the corner. As a survivalist, I am ready to plant a garden and start picking wild mushrooms and shoot some turkey

I love winter, especially how the temperatures work, i.e. where I'm at, we had heavy snowfall at about 0°C and then the temperatures fell to -20°C, the snow basically insulated the earth and protected it from freezing, so you can now easily shovel away the snow and go digging in the ground.
We had a cold week in north scotland, minus 22C or thereabouts , no problems at all. Westerly and southerly winds are warming us up now. Snow is melting , but still ice around underneath, super slippery. That shelter is a winner, very quick to build, but need a snow shovel or a hunter ski to mine blocks.
I carry a heat reflective tarp and a heavy duty tarp. I build a teepee frame, wrap the heat tarp around. Then reinforce the frame wrap the second tarp to give a bit of an air gap. Then I bury in snow and debris for insulation. I can have a small stove fire inside for warmth and the air gap helps cut down on snow melt outside and holds in more heat. It works fairly well :)

I build these snow cabins with my 5 year old son in winter for fun,we dig several per year, and tunnels we never stay in over night tho and it's just snow no other building materials at all. we are in N.L Canada.we are rated for much lower that -10ºc.😉

Lars your real as they come brother! , You actually will test the shelters you build in -20/-30 weather, everyday is survival living in the Taiga. You can't just go home to house with unlimited amount of gas to heat it. You have to prepare buy harvesting wood, cutting it specs. Stay warm and thanks ago for another variant of shelter.
As a Russian all i can say that Lars is based somewhere in Western Siberia not so far from my home Omsk region - maybe it's a Novosibirsk or Tomsk region, perhaps Altai and that person is 100% not fake. You can't fake the sound of snow in a cold sunny day. Big ups for Lars!!

Snow is so rare here in South-West Poland where I live. Even if it snows the temperaturs are above 0*C and it all melts on the 2nd day. But now we have snow allmost 3 weeks! This is blessing. Days are so bright with snow laying everywhere.
I'm sitting in the South East near Wrocław right now and you're right this winter has been amazing. I was supposed to have gone back home to Denmark, but COVID kept me stuck in Poland and I have to say I have been thankful for my impromptu extended holidays -10 and snow all day is so cool.

You mention getting sweaty sometimes when working hard in the cold. I prefer to wear button down shirts, sweaters with zippers in the front and jackets, coats, and shells with zippers too. That way I can easily open up everything to cool off quickly if I am getting too warm without having to take off layers and pack away anything.

You mention getting sweaty sometimes when working hard in the cold. I prefer to wear button down shirts, sweaters with zippers in the front and jackets, coats, and shells with zippers too. That way I can easily open up everything to cool off quickly if I am getting too warm without having to take off layers and pack away anything.
I could live here in the pandemic lol. Awesome shelter. Can't wait to see you camp out in it
