- As you can see, I`m using my new finger control technique to do these super fast single stroke roll. My hands, wrists, arms, and fingers are not moving, but you can hear and see this very fast single stroke roll. I`m very relaxed when doing this technique. What this technique is that in my left hand I`m pushing down so slightly my two fingers into the drum head and the rebound is hitting my fingers ,so I just push down so slightly again to keep this rebound going. In my right hand my fingers is pushing up the stick and I let it fall to hit the drum head and repeat this process. So I`m doing a up-down finger control between my left and right hand. That way the sound is very even and clear. With me using my 1967 Rogers Dynasonic Brass Snare Drum, every beat is clearly heard. Many of the great drummers, like Buddy Rich, Dave Weckl, Joe Morello, have their own way of doing the finger control. This one of mine works best for me. I use it all the time with my Ken Loomer Big Band and Jazz Quartet for doing fast singles or for very fast jazz beats. When I do my long open type of drum solo, using this technique is easy to play and I put no stress in my drumming. I`m always trying out new ways to play to be more relaxed in my drumming.
Amazing technique Ken😊
I always trying out new techniques to make me play better. Thanks so much for your comment.
Nice work on the Dyna!
One of the best snare drums ever made is the Rogers Brass Dynasonic snare drum. As you can hear, every beat I play on it comes out super clear. Thanks for your comment.
I can't even do that in my dreams.
You never know what is possible! Give it a try and see what happens. Thanks for your comment.
Awesome!
This finger control technique I made up works very good for me. Thanks for your comment.
Holy Smokes! Buddy would be proud!
Buddy had his own way of doing the finger control which I can`t do. So I did my own way which works best for me. Thanks for your comment.
very nice ! ty for sharing!
Always new ways to do these drum techniques. Thanks for your comment.
Nice
What is very nice for me is that this technique I made up works great for the type of drumming that I do. Thanks for your comment.
nice! can u please do a side by side sound comparison between ur snares and drums? like maybe 1 hit each and the diff hits u do on the snare drums i hit ea? maybe just between all ur rack toms and snares if the whole kits r too much trouble.
I already did a video on what you said. It`s my tuning video. I hit each drum and explain how I get that sound. Here is the video ua-cam.com/video/7g_4vitP538/v-deo.html
@@KenLoomer i mean so we can hear the diff between the diff brands and materials. especially since u prob have the same heads on everything.
@@sticksbass I still don`t know what you mean. You want me to set up a Slingerland drum kit, a Gretsch drum kit, a Ludwig drum kit, a Pearl drum kit and just hit each drum from all of those sets to hear what they sound like with the same heads on them. What is that going to prove? Since each drum company uses their own shell design, the type of wood they use, and so many other factors, of course each drum will sound different. Bottom line is that the drummer with his tuning, the way he plays, will be the main factor if the drum sounds good or bad.
@@KenLoomer i doubt any of them sound all that diff anyway, unless u have a gretsch kit w diecast hoops. those have sounded much dryer to me, but its always interesting to listen to side by side comparisons. most if not all vids ive seen spend too much time on ea drum so its hard to tell which sounds the best. do u have a fav sounding snare drum? i know uve said ur sling drums r ur favs.
@@sticksbass I do have a Gretsch set with die cast hoops. Here is the video so you can hear them ua-cam.com/video/Lq6h03WSccI/v-deo.html Those Gretsch drums with the die cast hoops do not have a dryer sound!! It`s a wide open sound with a clear tone. Bottom line is the drum that sounds the best is the one you play on with your tuning and your technique that you have. I made that Gretsch set sound great because of my tuning the way I played those drums. In this video, I made the drums sound good also because of my tuning and the way I played. You are wasting your time with side by side comparisons of each drum. I could play on a bad sounding set of new drums, but with my tuning and choice of heads to put on them and my technique of how to play them, make those drums sound great. I hope you understand what I`m saying. I tune my snare drums all the same, so all of my snare drums are my favorite. This Rogers Dynasonic snare I`m playing in this video sounds great because of my tuning. It has a crisp clear sound to it and I can play it so well with my tuning. So forget about the side by side comparison. What ever drum you buy, put on the heads you like best and tune them up to the sound that fits the music you are playing. You will have that great sounding drum!
To see me use this same finger control at my Ken Loomer Big Band concert, here is the link ua-cam.com/video/yqPwhBM9ErI/v-deo.html
Today’s Buddy Rich
Well of course I can`t even be close to what Buddy played. But I`m sure he is happy that a drummer like me has a Big Band and playing some of his great Big Band music. You can check out this video of my Big Band in concert ua-cam.com/video/Vz5CLDz-ebo/v-deo.html
